Trenton was on time, early in fact. He installed my dead bolt keyless entry lock. It did not take him long, he wrote down the model number, and the code in the booklet. He also showed me how to use it. Went immediately upstairs to install my curtain rods in the master bedroom and bathroom. Great job thanks, and his prices are great too!

Rob is a true professional and did great work for me. I hired Rob to replace the weather stripping on the front door and hang a shelf. While installing the weather stripping, Rob noticed that what I bought was incorrect and he went to Home Depot to find the right piece himself. When he came back, we realized that the door is somewhat specialty and none of the standard door sweeps will fit. Rob did his best to repair the old door sweep until I can get a true replacement. Rob's truly demonstrated his professionalism throughout the entire process from setting up the appointment to being dedicated to finishing the job to my satisfaction. I will look to Rob in the future for other household maintenance.

Bathroom door made of metal was jamming and would not close. Tim discussed various options with us and went with the one we felt more comfortable with. He was very professional, patient, friendly and did an excellent job. He even helped us out with another door problem, which we brought up after he got to our place.

Antonio was excellent! He arrived on time to install my front door. He did a perfect job putting the door, painting it and cleaning after. I will hire him again and I recommend him without hesitation. He's done better than Home Depot or Loews including the price.

Prompt, professional and friendly. I was thinking I might end up having a big hole in the wall and need a lot a dry walling. Not necessary. He went through an outdoor closet and made a small hole and then covered the outlet, no problem, no drywall necessary. Everything looks perfect, and I have an outlet for my TV. Made the appointment with short notice, he accepted the job, was on time, began working immediately, got finished quickly, and I will definitely rehire for future jobs! Can't say enough about how happy I am!!

I give Jose Gonzalez and his team top marks. The paint job they did on the interior of my home (three stories, 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths) and exterior front entrance was outstanding and exceeded my expectations. Replacement of the front storm door and locks on two exterior doors was also excellent, as was staining of my deck, repair to a piece of siding, complete interior house cleaning, and shampooing of all carpets. Their attention to detail was phenomenal. Not only was the paint job fantastic, but they took great care in ensuring there was no errant paint on floors/carpet, etc. Jose took great pains to ensure all work was perfect. When he was not satisfied about an aspect of the job, he had it redone until it met his demanding standards and I was completely satisfied. In order to compete the job within the allotted time, Jose and his crew worked long hours. Thanks to Jose and his team, my house never looked so good and I am confident that it will be sold quickly at a premium price. Jose and Brandon have my highest recommendation for any home repair/painting project; if Jose says they can do it, be assured that it will be done to the highest standards and completed on time.

I am really pleased with the service they provided. They were punctual and very professional. The combination lock I originally purchased didn’t work (manufacturer defect), but they helped me select a new door lock. After I ran to Home Depot to replace it, they came back the same day to install it. Highly recommend this company and Samair(?) was excellent!!!

Mr. Perry did an amazing job on a door repair and door frame repair. His work quality is excellent and he is very communicative throughout the process. I was so pleased with Mr. Perry's work that I requested further work be done on an exterior wall. Again, his work was excellent. He does everything and is a long time expert in his field. Mr. Perry is definitely my go-to from now on!!

I had a great experience with Keystream Security. They responded to my questions very quickly and were able to set up an appointment on short notice. I needed my front door re-keyed and the lock aligned, and the man who did the work was efficient and professional. I also had a last minute request to change out a bathroom door knob and he was able to do it on the spot. I’ll be hiring this company again in the future for any locksmith needs I have!

Justin is outstanding! I've had him out for three projects this week, and I am looking around my house for other things that need attention. He helped me out of a bind when the first "professional" I hired stood me up and was never heard from again. Justin's communication is excellent, he went out of his way to assist us as we were getting ready to put our house on the market, and he saw a tricky project through to the end without complaint. To top it off, he's sweet and courteous. Can't recommend him highly enough. I would give him six stars if I could. Thanks, Justin!!!

Mike did such a great job on our door and strom door replacement. He did not rush and took his time, came back multiple times to put finishing touches on our door and even came across an unexpected job where our door frame was rotted through. It was so simple to set this up-he did everything by phone email and text which was convenient for me working 2 jobs... mike is friendly, professional and extremely talented. Heres before and after

Angel did an amazing job. He took over a half finished DIY drywall project and did an A+ job! He showed up on time every day and made night and day progress each day. We were so thrilled with his work, we hired him to do a few other jobs around the house before he packed up his tools. We got one quote from Angel and couldn't even get another contractor to give us the time of day. I'm happy we went with Angel, don't hesitate, he will do an amazing job! Here is the scope of the work he did: -demoed the walls and removed all waste -installed drywall and missed the whole room (we requested to leave rafters exposed) -promoted the walls so they were ready for us to paint -installed our GeoWood Bamboo floors from Calibamboo -replaced the bathroom door -replaced accordion door to laundry room and closet with proper doors (single for closet, double doors for laundry room) -fixed very noisy stairs -installed 2 indoor ceiling fans -installed outdoor ceiling fan in our pavilion, he had to run underground electrical to the pavilion -installed new outlets (white) to replace old ugly brown outlets (about 20 outlets in all) -installed trim and quarter round to entire room, even using white silicone to make them all look very uniform. It's worth noting he ran a laser to ensure that the floor was laid straight, not just following the wall (the wall isn't straight, forcing him to custom cut every board in a 45' run)

Chad arrived this morning as promised and used a snow blower to clear my driveway. He applied salt to prevent freezing over tonight, then proceeded to clear a path from the driveway to the front steps. Cleared the steps and path to front door. For the first time since the blizzard, I will be able to exit my house, so needless to say, I am very pleased and will call Chad in the future. I will also recommend him to friends. He is licensed and insured according to his business card and that is also reassuring. Susan Kline Parkville, MD

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
