Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hi there! I am a Baltimore-based lifestyle photojournalist with more than 18 years of professional shooting experience. My early days as a newspaper photographer took me: inside a water tower, through the path of a tornado, up a 25 foot ship mast, and in harm's way of more wild pitches and full throttle high school linebackers than I can count. One day I woke up and thought 'why am I risking life and limb for a job that doesn't even involve a slice of wedding cake at the end of the day?' After all, a wedding is the ultimate news event in the lives of two people. And no two are ever the same. In my newspaper days I often wondered if the pictures I took really touched anyone. I never ask myself that question anymore, because I know that what I create for my clients is meaningful. Well, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that wedding cake is a major perk...but beyond the sweets, I also really enjoy meeting and working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Laurie exceeded expectations for our small courthouse wedding with family. Everyone, even our guests, were impressed with her direction and guidance on posing, locations for photos, etc. The results are stunning too and we will cherish these photos forever. Thank you so much for capturing our special day!!! Highly recommend.

Our firm hired Laurie for commercial real estate photos. Not only did she turnaround 150+ photos within 12 hrs, but she went above and beyond what we asked for (15 photos). Excellent communication, updates you during the entire transaction. Excellent, quality work. She is a photographer who will provide the BEST work for the most reasonable price. Simply amazing.

Laurie was a pleasure to work with. Our company hired Laurie to photograph a software users/development conference at Flying Dog Brewery in September of 2014. She established an excellent line of communication prior to and throughout our event. Which included identifying any specific intentions or requests that we had On the day of our event Laurie arrived promptly and well prepared. Throughout the day she was very discrete as to not disrupt any ongoing activity while capturing the event. She was also able to identify great photo potential for some of the staged photos we requested (such as event material and a group photo). Our end photos turned out beautifully! Laurie was able to catalog our event with high quality photos that captured candid interactions and gave a wonderful representation of exactly what we were looking for. I would highly recommend Laurie and Pure Light Images and am hopeful to work with her in the future. Kaitlyn McKendry Marketing Coordinator Vicinity Manufacturing

This was our first time as a company to hire a professional photographer and we really did not know what to expect. The experience from beginning to end was great. More importantly, the quality of work was fantastic. She knew we needed to get this done quickly for us to get back to work so she pre-prepped our location to shoot then had our people pose. She didn't try to upsell and her price was extremely reasonable. Definitely suggest hiring her for quality and competitive pricing.

Five stars are not enough. In four simple words, Laurie saved our wedding. When our photographer cancelled with less than a week before our wedding, I sought out to find a replacement on Thumbtack who could not only do it last minute but for our budget. After sifting through many talented photographers on this site who bid on the job (and several who could not do the job but were willing to help me find one), we selected Laurie. The reasons are many. First, she was incredibly responsive to our needs during the negotiation phase, jumping on the phone with us right away to discuss our style, needs, and hopes for our photography. As a former photojournalist, she understood our desire for the photography to capture those great candid moments that evoke the spirit of the moment. She was a pleasure to work with during the day of, quickly working with us, our massive families, and the cold to get all the photos we needed. She was always there to get that perfect shot, yet not intrusive at all. She quickly turned around the photos and within a month we got extraordinary photos that even a month later we can't stop looking at. It was like reliving the wedding all over again. There is simply no better choice than Laurie.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I photograph everything, from weddings and families/kids, to real estate, corporate, conferences, editorial, product, food and landscape. My clients especially love my ability to capture emotions and fleeting moments, a skill I've honed over 15 years as a photojournalist.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When looking for a photographer, I strongly encourage clients to compare quality of work and customer reviews, not just price. Varying degrees of skill and experience are often apparent when you look more closely at multiple photographers' work side by side. Some questions to ask yourself: do these photos capture peak action/emotion, are they well composed/framed, do the poses feel forced or natural, is the lighting interesting/noteworthy, do these pictures make me feel as though I'm there in the moment? Reviews are also a great way to compare photographers. Satisfied clients provide a benchmark for what you can expect from that professional.
