FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $150 to tune. This includes tuning, and if a pitch raise is needed, that is included in the fee. It also includes an initial inspection of the overall condition of the piano, as well as recommendations for future care and other services to maximize performance and playability of the piano. In addition to tuning, minor mechanical adjustments to resolve common problems such as sticky or sluggish keys that don’t play well, or pedals not operating properly are included as long as they take no longer than 10 minutes to resolve. I also offer full service tuning packages which are best to address pianos that have been neglected for a long time and have needs that go beyond tuning and a few sticky keys I offer multi piano discounts of 10% off per tuning for 3 or more instruments serviced in the same location (building or premise). This is ideal for places such as churches or institutions that have multiple pianos needing service. I offer a 10% military discount to all active duty or retired military (this discount can not be combined with the multi piano discount).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began my training under the late Larry Crabb, RPT, who was a rebuilder in Atlanta GA. He specialized in complete repair, reconditioning, restoration, and rebuilding of pianos. Under his instruction, I completely refinished and rebuilt both an upright and grand piano and learned how to tune, maintain and service pianos. I have continued my training with special classes and seminars offered by the PTG (Piano Technicians Guild), by attending PTG conventions and by networking with local techs.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with many types of customers from home owners and those just starting to take lessons, to worship leaders and churches as well as accomplished amateurs and professional musicians. During my time in Georgia I managed my own clientele as well as the clients for the local piano dealer. I tuned and maintained pianos regularly for the local school system, for the Augusta Symphony and Augusta State University. I tuned and maintained pianos for the USC Aiken satellite campus, and took care of the pianos during the Joye in Aiken music festival held there each year. All of this has given me experience maintaining instruments in many different settings and situations.
