Erin was a really nice, talented makeup artist! She did a great job with the dark smokey eyes I wanted, was on time, and communicated quickly when I emailed her. My only suggestion would be to let people know what products you can offer for certain skin types- I have sensitive/acne prone skin (I had asked what she had and got a broad answer of "everything"). I ended up doing my foundation prior to her arrival Bc I did not know if she had one I could use and my skin breaks out at the sight of comogenic formulas! But overall she was great. I would use her again. Thanks Erin!

Katie was my makeup artist for my wedding this past March. I had no expectations going into hiring a makeup artist online. Katie was not only a delight to work with, my make-up looked fantastic and was flawless all day! Katie was always prompt and very responsive. She was on time the day of the wedding and is super sweet. I would highly recommend Katie to anyone in search of a makeup artist. She is very talented in what she does, which makes for a perfect combination.

I hired Esha to do my wedding makeup in addition to my six Bridesmaids, two Junior Bridesmaids, Flower Girl and both Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom and I could not have asked for a better makeup artist to take the lead on getting us glammed up and ready for the day! I will be the first to admit that I am the WORST at portraying what I want in my look when it comes to makeup but that didn't phase Esha at all. My big thing was that I wanted to look natural and still very me.. as a girl who doesn't wear a ton of makeup every day that can sometimes be a little harder when you get in front of someone who knows makeup only because my idea of "not a lot of makeup" and a professional artist's may not be the exact same interpretation but Esha and I got on the same page from the very start. Esha completely nailed it and brought my whole look together. I would 100% recommend a trial. I did my trial the morning of my bridal shower to see how I liked it, how it held up and what changes I wanted to make. Esha was so wonderful and open to my notes I made at the conclusion of my bridal shower day. I wanted a full to see it all and really pinpoint what I liked and what I would want to see a little differently. For example, I went with certain pictures for the trial and then realized my own ignorance in not understanding what I showed her was more of the smokey eye look.. so looking back on pictures from my bridal shower, my makeup looked incredible but it was too dark for what I wanted as my wedding day look. Following up with Esha was a breeze and I sent her a few more pictures and she instantly got on board with what I wanted.. explaining the difference in the looks I showed her. To me they looked the same until she pointed out what wasn't! The trial was SUPER helpful because I tried the airbrush and a certain lip color but the morning of the wedding I went with HD makeup (because I was LOVING how my bridesmaids were looking) and completely went a different route with lip color. Neither of those changes threw Esha off at all. She worked efficiently and was extremely calm and laid back the entire morning.. the high emotions of the morning didn't fluster her at all. For all my bridesmaids she made sure I told each of them that if they didn't like something, to speak up and she would very happily change it because her main concern was us feeling comfortable in our looks, not being personally offended by someone wanting to change something. From the mothers to bridesmaids, to my young junior bridesmaids and tiny flower girl.. she knew how to do each age and skin complexion without fail. I have to thank Esha for her patience with me because the week of the wedding I had a "panicked bride" moment and she handled it all with poise and reassurance that all was good. It rained on my wedding day (ALL day), there were tears (but she teaches you how to cry and not ruin your makeup, bonus!!) and I sweated my tush off on the dance floor and then continued the party downtown Annapolis and let me tell you this.. my makeup was as flawless at 3:00 in the morning as it was at 12 noon when my look was complete... just as Esha promised it would be! Cannot thank you enough for getting me wedding-day-ready and all 11 of the best women in my life looking and feeling amazing! You've got my recommendation and I look forward to having an excuse to hire you to do my makeup again in the future! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! When the first two words that come out of your groom's mouth when he sees you is "Oh Shit".. you know you're looking drop dead GORGEOUS! Wouldn't have happened without you, Esha!! I looked like a bride and felt like my true self. That was a major win in my book! *I have attached two photos taken off our online gallery.. They are not the full resolution though.. still waiting on our thumb drive so I apologize for that! Esha, I can send you full resolution pictures if you would like so you can share them later! :)

Aubrielle has been my personal MUA for about 8 months now which has been a blessing. From everyday looks, special occasions and now as the official MUA of my dance team. My girls absolutely love when they perform simply because they get the chance to sit in Aubri’s chair. They talk, they laugh and most importantly she explains what products and motion she’s completing on our looks. There is something special about the feeling of having a true professional master a makeup concept you have in mind and see it come to life! Aubrielle...keep up the great work and thank you for always being available for me and team when I need you most!

I never normally write reviews but I was so impressed. She made all of us feel special and beautiful. Most makeup artist only do makeup one way( which I hate) but Jaydes makeup capibilties and talents were able to stretch from my daughter (13) who's makeup was very beautiful and age appropriate to my Great grandmother(81) who's makeup was light and elegant. But most importantly my husbands jaw was on the floor. Lol.. THANK YOU SOO MUCH.

Mia was awesome! She actually saved my wedding day!! I decided very very last minute to hire a makeup artist and hair stylist, and of course no one was available TWO days before my big day. She gave me a natural look with a soft glow in addition to a bold purple lip color. She was very sweet and she took time to adjust the makeup to my preferences. I will definitely ask her to do my prom makeup. Her prices were very cheap compared to other makeup artists. And the makeup done was outstanding. Extremely pleased.

Summer did such an exceptional job on the make up for my wedding! Not only are her makeup skills top notch, she is also very down to earth and caring which is exactly what you need on your wedding day! She did makeup for myself, my 7 bridesmaids, my mother and my step mother and everyone looked absolutely stunning!!! The makeup also lasts ALL DAY LONG! You will not be disappointed by Summer's work ethic, bright personality and creative genius. The onsite makeup also created a relaxed atmosphere that I would highly recommend to every bride out there. Do yourself a favor and hire Summer for onsite makeup needs! She will blow you away, trust me! :)

I hired Ashley to do my makeup for my Pre-Wedding photo shoot (similar to an engagement shoot but longer and with more outfits) and she did an amazing job! Although our session ended up being shorter than we had expected (due to unforeseen circumstances), Ashley was able to do my makeup perfectly in such a short amount of time! I can't even imagine how much better it would have been if we had the full hour and a half. I usually don't wear makeup on a daily basis, and I was a bit worried about how I would look with a full face of makeup (false lashes and all), but she did a great job of making me still look me. Don't hesitate to hire her if you are in the need of an great makeup artist~

Judith and Jossi are kind and professional, and it was fun to have my trial hair and makeup done by them. I only had vague ideas of what I wanted for my updo and makeup, but these artists did their magic and I was amazed by the outcome. I trust them completely with my and my bridesmaids' hair and makeup on my wedding day.

She did a great job for my wedding makeup. Always on time. Reasonable price. Flexible. I would admit that she got the talent! I told her that I wanted lighter makeup than the trail, and she used the right amount of everything that was definitely perfect. Everyone said I was absolutely beautiful on my special day. Thank you very much, Jeanette.

I have contracted with "Makeup By Marlisa" twice! This makeup artist is always timely, professional and has the gift of making sure that my requests actually look right on me. She has a very keen eye for what works for skin types, facial structures and the latest makeup trends. I will always (if she is available) request her services! Her presence is welcoming and non intrusive. . .considering the close proximity makeup artists have while working. The very first time I contracted with "Makeup By Marlisa", she had to calmly talk me off of the "that's too much makeup ledge". (She's very patient) :) Let's just say I never wear makeup, but wanted to look fabulous for an event I was attending! Needless to say it was not too much makeup, and I received compliments all night. So it goes without saying, I wanted her again when I had another big event. She had the same qualities that I witnessed from our first meeting. And, YES I looked awesome! LOL I can't say enough about her. . .she has made me appreciate makeup and her services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
