I highly recommend EBRR and team to everyone. The team was always professional and on time. Ed Bilo takes great pride in his company and it is obvious he enjoys his work. The team was always sure to make certain the finished product was exactly what we wanted. EBRR is a one-stop shop- they are skilled in so many areas of property maintenance. We had them do flooring, outdoor landscaping, post construction cleaning and concrete repair. Ed Bilo was happy to help with whatever type of work we needed done around the house and provide ideas and expertise. We will be inviting them back to do future projects in our home without hesitation.

Thomas is just starting out as his own business, but I liked that: -he has worked in different parts of the roofing industry for a significant amount of time -was the only one (tried 5 companies) to return my inquiry and he did so within a day on a weekend (4th of July weekend, at that)! -he is independent and not particularly tied with a roofing company (though he can give you roof estimates for two companies he consults for if you want) -very reasonably priced -very friendly and honest -took the time to show me things and explain about roof construction -described simple repairs i could do on my own and offered to teach me when I am ready. Thomas was very professional and personable, thorough, and efficient during the roof inspection. Gave me the peace of mind that we have a few more years left on the roof as long as we take care of a few things, confirmed the home inspector's report, and educated me to better protect myself against storm chaser roofers. Highly recommend his services, would do business with him again, and wish him the best as he starts out with his own business!

Rent2day was amazing! He not only was kind, professional, on time and clean, but he charged me exactly what he said he would. It's frustrating that so many services aren't honest. They say they will charge you X amount, then when they get there they charge you quite a bit more. Rent2Day charged just what he said, and went the extra mile to make sure that everything was done right and well. I was not only very satisfied, but I will continue to use Rent2Day anytime I need a handyman.

I researched many vendors before selecting Hernandez. They were able to complete the work in 2 weeks, not 2+ months like the larger companies. Also, their price was about half of the quotes that I received from Long Roofing and Thompson's Creek. The work on a large house and shed roof was done in a day in a very professional manner. They took care to protect my bushes and swimming pool from the old shingles. They did a great job of clean up too. They didn't make me sign an exclusive contract like Long Roof insisted upon and didn't require any money up front. Roof looks great.

My roof had a leak around the attic fan during a period of continuous forecasted rain. When all other roofing companies were giving me next week appointments just to look at my issue, Mark came out the same day. He was extremely friendly and communicated exactly what he was going to do and how much it would cost. Mark even cleaned out my gutters and removed some old directv wires that were hanging off my deck at no additional charge. All that plus a 1 year transferable warranty on his roof fix, what more could I ask for? Will definitely be sending him additional projects in the future.

I'm very pleased with my experience working with Melissa and MJ Home. My completed job looks great and is of good quality. Melissa is friendly, responsive and works with knowledgeable professionals. Two of which are John and Dave. They gave me excellent advice on the future direction of my home improvements and fixed my leaky roof and repaired the damaged dry wall under. MJ is a very good choice for your roofing and drywall repair.

A tree outside our house was struck by lightening and threw branches on our house. It wasn't until three months later during a series of torrential rainstorms that we discovered it punctured our roof (all the contractors missed it!) and was leaking. Wilder came out and inspected the damage within hours of me contacting him. He gave a fair quote and returned as soon as it was safe to complete the repairs. He was timely in his work and even did a little more shingle repair than we originally agreed upon (he discovered more in need of replacement when he was up there). He took pictures of each step of his work to show that he did the work he promised, and followed up with me at the close of business to confirm the work was okay. Wilder made a very stressful event pleasant to fix. We plan to contact him for future repairs and recommend him to our friends.

It was a pleasure to work with JCC installing a new roof in my Baltimore row home. Jeff was punctual with the quote, getting up on the roof inspecting it and taking pictures with different issues that needed fixing. The price was competitive with other quotes received. Other roofing companies did not even get up on the roof to make sure there were no structural issues. Wait time was about a week after contract was sent, with plans earlier in the week for installation but rain cancelled those plans. Jeff came back our as his crew was finishing explaining what was completed and even took time to answer other potential needs (e.g. Windows and siding). Highly recommend JCC and will definitely use them in the future!

I was able set my appointment and receive a quote on the work that needed to be done the same day! He was very reasonably priced. When they arrived, they were professional and very knowledgeable. The work was done fast, but more importantly efficiently. He was a pleasure to deal with and stuck by his price he quoted me!! I will be sure to contact them for ALL of my roofing and exterior needs!

Fred Muela from Liberty Windows and Siding Inc. gave us a fantastic quote to install all the windows and replace the siding. The price was better than other companies and the installation went smoothly. A few years later the trim coil (aluminum trim over the house wood trim) started to peel off in a few places. I contacted the trim coil manufacturer per Liberty Windows and Siding Inc warranty information/instructions and they were making me call one office after the other and eventually they did not stand behind their product and the warranty. I checked with Fred Muela and he sent someone to replace the trim coil at no charge. This is the type of company Liberty Windows and Siding Inc is. I was recommending them before and now is a no brainer to recommend them. We are very happy we chose them.

After meeting with the contractor to get a bid, I knew B & A Contracting was the company for me. The contractor had been a workman himself, so he knew all aspects of the remodeling job, and appeared confident that he could give me a great deck for a reasonable price. Our business was cemented with an online contract and a check for 1/3 down. The next week a workman came on time to rip out the old deck and start work on the new. When the contractor came to check on the progress, he found the wooden supports (onto which the deck was secured) had rotted through, due to faulty original construction fifty years ago. The builder had to replace those boards to make sure the deck was sturdy. Though it cost a bit more, I was please to know the deck would be up to code and had a lifetime labor warranty transferable once, ready for the new owners when we sold our home. During three of the four days, it rained, but the hardworking builder continued long hours to complete the job on time. After four days, the pressure treated deck was finished, and it looked wonderful! The workman also cleaned up the leaves, construction debris, and other debris that had been around and under the old construction. He swept the deck off, and, with that, the total appeal level rose. I am so pleased. Thank you, B & A. The only concern I had was that I had to pay with cash or check. It is always nice to use a credit card for large purchases and/or repairs.

Mr. Goodman has been working for my family for years. He is reliable, honest, trustworthy and very competent. He is always the first person we call for roofing, carpentry, electricity, renovations - everything and we are extremely pleased. The best thing I think about Mr. Goodman is that he takes the time to explain what is going on.

The dreaded time when one needs a new is stressful, to say the least. I feel extremely lucky that I came across Charles from Chesco. From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with him. And must say that his crew was fantastic. Friendly and very personable, great work, exceptional value, and you can tell that great pride is taken in all work done. Super happy with the work, and wouldn’t hesitate a second to use again. Highly recommended. Installed a new roof, gutters and window shutters. 5 stars!

My project consisted of a new roof, new gutters and downspouts, as well as the installation of solar tubes and a cupola and light shaft. So a fairly extensive and specialized job. As with all large home improvement, it was not without its moments, but Cox was responsive and committed to completing the job to my satisfaction--which they did. Results are lovely. Very pleased.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
