We moved into a two-bedroom house and our designer recommended EBRR as a general contractor for our major renovation projects. Luis, the project manager, came in, listened to all our needs and specificity notated our request. We had a complete estimate for everything within only a few days including cost and time frames. Barry and EBRR was able to accommodate with all architect's drawings, all subcontractors and permits. The work was done on time and within budget, even with the inevitable surprises that always come up during renovation. They were punctual, always respectful and very neat.

Remberto and his team did a fantastic job on various projects in our house! They completely erased a lot of damage from baby gates and humid air, and also replaced wood molding and caulking. Results were even better than expected!

We absolutely loved working with José and his team to tile our basement floor with ceramic wood-looking tile, expose a brick wall, and install new toilet and a wall-mounted sink. He works FAST and within budget. Extra things we needed done were added at very reasonable extra expense ($40-60 to repair an unexpected drywall hole behind a mirror). His team does beautiful work, and José made sure every bit of trash or demo material was taken away. They also went above and beyond to make things look nice. For example, I don't think they charged me extra when they plastered around our baseboards and it looks soooo much better! They also patched a little hole left by a past electrician's job. They took extra good care of our space as if it was their own home. We also like that he respected our desire to further finish our space ourselves ( we are ok with doing our own painting). I can't say enough good things. We will definitely hire José and Brandon Contracting for our next job.

Gio's Builders did a wonderful job removing my textured ceiling; installing recessed lighting, crown molding, chair rail, and laminate and vinyl tile flooring; and painting my condo. He explained the best way to do things and why and was very responsive to concerns.

We contacted Marvin about patching a hole in the drywall. He came out the same day to give us an estimate and sent one of his employee the next day to do the job. We cannot be more happy with the results. You cannot tell at all the wall had a hole it in and he added wood panels to reinforce the dry wall as well. He charged us exactly the amount that he quoted, which was very reasonable. We will definitely go to Marvin again for future jobs.

Jorge came on a Friday to give us an estimate and work started on the following Wednesday and was done on Friday. After a nice power wash and stain our deck looks brand new. The wood boards feels like composite but without the expense. Jorge even replaced some rotted wood trim and rotted wood from underneath our bump out kitchen. After repainting our trim, our house looks great now.

We obtained three quotes to replace our 70yo slate roof with dimensional shingles. We also wanted to replace our gutters. Booth Brothers' quote was thorough, professional, and reasonably priced by comparison both to another small roofing business and a large home improvement store. The team completed the work within a week of hire, and the roof and gutters look great. It has been several weeks (and lots of rain) and we've had no issues. While they did accidentally break a neighbor's basement window and tear a window screen during the process, they fixed both after the job was done. We are very satisfied with our experience and will call Booth Brothers again.

Great Job. I'm very pleased. I hand a new deck put in, the whole house painted, new laminate flooring, new carpets, and some other minor things. Andre always gave me a good price. He's very honest, and that's the best thing out of my experience. It was a breath of fresh air. I would definitely use him again. Thanks again Andre !!!

The 5th Genration Group recently did a minor renovation on our condo; the quality of the drywall and finishing work was excellent. The staff was neat and professional. The group also did an outstanding ceramic tile installation on an existing fireplace. We will definitely work with them in the future.

Replace 100+ year old slate roof on a victorian rowhouse. To include, replacing portions of wood sub-structure that were weakened from age or water, removal and replacement of top finial, and installing copper flashing at all corners and joints. Excellent! His work is top notch, he made solid recommendations as new issues were discovered and just took care of it without any debate, and he gave ideas and did a better job than was originally expected. For example, he volunteered to go the extra mile to solder the copper flashing together rather than just overlap them, if I would pay for the gas and a small tool to do this. And, he recommended a great style update: which was to use larger slates on the end to ensure the ends were not tiny slate pieces, and it looks great.

Alex, the project manager and business owner was very easy to work with. Four Seasons is the best roofing company to deal with. I have gotten many estimates from Phil Dibello, Park Heights Roofing, E&A Roofing, Allied Remodeling and a few others. Not only was the price was right but the quality of work and timing the roof would get done was amazing. They got my roof done in one day on the hottest day of summer and his work guys were polite and efficient. Four Seasons did not force me into getting the contract and did not have sales men come over to try to sell me or pressure me into an expensive roof. Four Seasons, also removed trash from my backyard out of courtesy and with no charge. The second day that Four Seasons were out at the house to put gutters, he called me to let me know what was being done each day and the second day he called I asked him if and how much it would be to remove a satellite dish we did not need on the roof, he said no charge at all. These guys work from their heart and they go out of the way to make the customer feel comfortable. Four Seasons Roofing does other work as well. I will hire them on future projects. They are professional, courteous, offer financing and are cheaper than everyone else. One last thing, when they needed to replace rotted wood, most companies would lie and say that you need to replace would this company will send pictures to the customer showing them the rotted wood that was removed. I am just so impressed with Four Seasons Roofing. If I could give him a million stars I would, they deserve it. They can get you any brand shingles you want. Use them.

Fred Muela from Liberty Windows and Siding Inc. gave us a fantastic quote to install all the windows and replace the siding. The price was better than other companies and the installation went smoothly. A few years later the trim coil (aluminum trim over the house wood trim) started to peel off in a few places. I contacted the trim coil manufacturer per Liberty Windows and Siding Inc warranty information/instructions and they were making me call one office after the other and eventually they did not stand behind their product and the warranty. I checked with Fred Muela and he sent someone to replace the trim coil at no charge. This is the type of company Liberty Windows and Siding Inc is. I was recommending them before and now is a no brainer to recommend them. We are very happy we chose them.

We hired CIR to repair an issue we had been having for years with the siding on the left-hand side of our house. When the siding was installed approximately eight years ago, the company who installed it did not properly attach it to the home, so every single time the wind blew or we had any type of weather, large portions of the siding wood bubble up or come off all together. We had had a couple different contractors come out to “make repairs” but it wasn’t until Rick came out and told us the reason why everything keeps coming off is because it all needs to come down and be put back up properly. He suggested we contact our homeowners insurance to see if they would cover this, something I honestly would not have thought to attempt to do, and sure enough they did. Rick came in under budget and within the timeframe provided. The siding has been up for about eight months and we haven’t had a single issue with it since. I would absolutely use this company again for home-improvement projects and repairs.

The kitchen was remodeled by g and e contractors. My designers-Dave and Glen-- were very knowledgable and wonderful to work with. Glen drew out my kitchen, and allowed me to really see it ahead of time. Dave was there whenever I had concerns and issues. My kitchen looks great now--tremendous expansion through my living room, new windows for a spacious view, quality all wood cabinets, 12 by 12 ceramic tiles in white, all looks simply marvelous. Joseph has done many renovation projects around my house. He has beautifully finished my basement into a lovely space. He has installed a vinyl fence around my quarter of an acre yard. He has built a very large composite deck in my back yard. He has also installed new windows, siding and roofing. He is a very hard worker and really has gone the extra mile to make sure I am satisfied with the finished product. It is nice to have a contractor that you can trust in your home. I highly recommend him!

Mr.Jimenez is extremely professional, courteous, and friendly. He pointed the back side of my home...three stories...made certain I had no foundation issues- which meant replacing some brick...and he repaired my roof and replaced my gutters. His work is exceptional. What struck me as so refreshing is that Mr.Jimenez treated my home as though it was his. He and his crew are extremely detail and quality oriented. It is obvious that they take pride in their work. Also, unlike other services which I had received quotes from, no unnecessary work was recommended. There was never an effort on his behalf to upsell. I truly appreciated that. If integrity, quality, and reasonable cost of services is important to you- then I highly recommend speaking to Masonry Restoration Services. I have already recommended his services to my neighbors and friends. Thank you again Mr. Jimenez for such excellent work and communicating with me every step of the way what needed to be done. And thank you for cleaning up better than I would have myself!

Polestar did our vinyl siding, soffits, aluminum wrap, and gutters. Nick and Chang were very responsive and personal, punctually met appointments and time commitments, and delivered what they said they would. The quality was very good and there is nothing I could say really needed improvement. I would definitely use them again.

He responded immediately to water tight our roofing after the hurricane and repaired $91,000. in damages. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
