- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My parents came to the U.S. on visitor visas, without friends or family, with a dream and about $20 in their pockets. After being put into deportation proceedings (for visa overstay), they obtained a knowledgeable immigration attorney in Los Angeles, CA. The attorney managed to get my mother an employment-based immigrant visa petition approved, but at the time the visa quota numbers for India were unavailable so he could not file their green card applications. Due to his creative thinking and sound legal knowledge, he applied for their green cards using the visa cross-chargeability provision (which allows for spouses from a country for which a visa cut-off date may provide a visa number); my parents received their green cards within a few months. Had it not been for the attorney's legal strategy, my parents would have had to wait several years to get their green cards. My parents saved every penny to pay their attorney's fees, but they knew with their hard work, perseverance, and a great immigration attorney, they could achieve their dream of a better life. Years later, I contacted that immigration attorney and told him that I wished to follow in his footsteps helping others achieve their dreams for a better life in this great country.
