Introduction: We here at Blue Raccoon Tunes offer a more professional, personalized, and communal alternative to corporate musical instruction. Our sole teacher, Carey Smith, is an accomplished professional jazz guitarist with 20 years experience playing and teaching all styles, from Baroque to modern rock. He learns first the individual student's specific desires and thereon builds an appropriate program of learning. Our students range from those looking simply to amuse themselves picking favorite tunes to those intent on a career in performance. Whatever the student's goals, Carey maintains a focus on both the fun of playing and the joys of discovery that music offers. We provide the full range of guitar and music instruction, including sound left- and right-hand technique, practical theory, ear training, improvisation, and repertory building. We also offer ample opportunities for jamming and performing with other guitarists, whether at lessons for 2 students (paired according to ability and style by Carey) or at our tri-annual home concerts where all students are encouraged to perform. These "Concerts" are really more akin to parties, where the family and friends of all students are welcome to come to our studio and enjoy food, drink, and music. Ours is a community-based endeavor; you'll surely make new friends here through the shared bond of making music. We welcome players of all levels in nearly every style of music, including classical, jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, and rock. As a professional player who loves his craft, Carey cultivates in his students a passion for playing music that renders learning a pleasure.
