Our building management had EbRR do a kitchen and hallway cleaning for our restaurant. Luis & Ronnie were courteous and on time as requested by Ed. Ed showed up for the final walkthrough and will be most certainly calling back. They breathed new life into the old freezer that we had discussed about replacing but now we have saved a lot of money.

I needed to have 3 Ikea kitchen cabinets assembled & hung on the wall as a floating credenza below our wall mounted tv. Cesar was on-time & professional. He cut out the back of the center cabinet to allow access to the electrical outlet & HDMI cables. I highly recommend Cesar & will contact him for my future projects.

Trent assembled a kitchen cart for us. He was on time ( actually early), professional and really nice. Had all the proper tools and even had a spare screw when one was bent.

I was looking for a simple tiling project in my 230sqft kitchen and half bathroom. After getting all the materials Jenrri got straight to the job. Provided suggestions and materials on making the finished product look cleaner. And with it only being the two of them made great time. I can tell they work hard. Overall I am very pleased with the work. I would recommend to others and rehire in the future

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I definitely recommend Patrick for professional or personal services. Patrick is mastery in his work. I original had wallpaper throughout my kitchen and the paint was old and outdated. After taking a picture and submitting it, Patrick came out for a free estimate. I was so comfortable in his price and delivery time, I signed up for his services the same day. He stayed in touch with me the during the whole project and updated me and sent pictures as he was completing the job. Patrick painted the kitchen/hallway and other rooms and removed the wallpaper professionally. The kitchen was so pristine, when my house went on the market, everyone thought I brought new cabinets. Patrick completed the entire project. I'm in the real estate market so I will definitely call him for the next task. Thanks again Patrick!!!

Marvin, his brother, and their employees were all wonderful. Their bid for our interior paint job--most rooms in the house, including bathroom and kitchen--was incredibly competitive, significantly lower than that of our other contractor who we had already hired to do some other structural work. Marvin was able to accommodate us according to our tight time-frame, so that the painting could be completed and the house deep-cleaned before move-in. They worked incredibly fast but were very proficient, and our other contractor even commented on how good of a job they did. In addition, they were incredibly nice, friendly, and Marvin was very clear and quick to respond to all communications. I highly recommend Marvin and R&D for any interior painting you may have, and will hire them again in the future!

This was our second time using Thumbtack and it was a great experience. We received multiple quotes for drywall work in our kitchen and bedroom to repair damage from a plumbing leak. The Langway brothers provided the best quote and had the experience and reviews to make us comfortable using them. We had guests coming in town so even though it was the holidays they rearranged their schedule and managed to come the very next day. Paul Langway performed the work and exceeded our expectations. In addition to doing a spotless repair job he also fixed some of the underlying issues which were not part of the original quote. He kindly did this free of charge. To have a contractor stick to their original quote and then do work above and beyond without charging more is pretty rare these days. It was also a pleasure to meet Paul and have him in our home as he is a great guy with which to interact. We will definitely use them again.

Power went out in our kitchen - lights, appliances, everything - and after doing a quick search on the web for electricians in our area, we came across A Good Electrician. Even though it was on a Saturday, Nick picked up the phone and agreed to come by our house to see what was going on after telling him it was a bit of an emergency. He arrived soon after, maybe an hour after we spoke on the phone. He figured it out right away and we had power back in our kitchen in less than an hour. I appreciated how Nick made the trip from Manassas (we live in Springfield) and he was very personable and honest about the work. I liked how it was less big business/corporate - we didn’t have to schedule an appointment through an operator or call center, be given a 4 hour window and deal with not knowing when they would actually arrive. He was fair and didn’t try to overcharge us. On top of all this, we recently had new vinyl siding installed and the outlet outside the house on our deck stopped working. It came up during our conversation and he asked to take a look and even fixed that for us while he was here. It was overall a great experience and I will definitely reach out to Nick and (A) Good Electrician again if I need any help with electrical work!

Patrick arrived on time and ready to work. I had him prep and paint the kitchen and dining room. The finished product looks great, plus he worked neatly and left the area cleaner than he found it. He also pointed out some windows that I hadn't noticed needed caulking and took care of that as well. I will be using him again and would highly recommend him to others.

Unlimited designed and remodeled my Kitchen. My husband and I was very happy with the outcome. We liked how he was able to capture our vision as well as made it a reality! He was not the most affordable contractor we interviewed, however we got a good vibe from him and now we know we made the right choice! He was easy, professional and most of all, we love our new Kitchen!

Alex at We R Counters was responsive, punctual and clean workers. He came over with samples and provided me with a fair quote for the work. On the day of the job, he laid out tarp from the kitchen to the front door to ensure cleanliness.. he even provided suggestions on how we can update our cabinets without costing too much. I would def recommend him and refer friends and family to him!

My husband and I have done renovations on a couple of properties on our own, but I was looking for some assistance with this latest renovation since my husband was deployed. The difference between how this renovation went in comparison to those is shocking – in a good way! Brook with BB Designs & Remodeling helped me in ways I didn’t even know I needed assistance. For example, her suggestion of moving a wall and a window in our living room ended up creating a showcase space that opens beautifully onto our wooded backyard. That kind of pre-construction/design assistance was exactly what I was looking for in a designer!! The vision that she laid out in our original meeting was amazing. After our initial meeting at the property, we sat down and went through various pictures and idea books so that Brook could further hone in on our desired look. She came to the table very organized and had multiple selections for me (lighting, kitchen cabinet pulls, wall colors, etc.), all the while offering her creative suggestions as well. She kept me on track with all the little decisions I had to make. And when I was overwhelmed with the amount of decisions/work to be done, Brook helped to calm me down and focus my attention on just a few things to keep the process moving forward without a high stress level. Brook was able to take us from the pre-construction phase straight through to the final design elements that pull the whole project together. Her help with various trips to tile and hardware stores to pick out the finishes were incredibly helpful!! BB Designs can help with whatever type of project you are looking to do. They can do a spot design if there’s an area of a room that needs assistance, all the way up to being the first in the home getting a major renovation project started. They can help interview and then manage contractors, purchase and receive the pieces, handle the budgets, and do the final design elements and staging. BB Designs & Remodeling can offer you a turn-key renovation experience – taking the stress and headache off of you. Finally, BB Designs & Remodeling’s assistance and expertise will add value to your home – making the investment in their design experience absolutely worth it. They can handle a simple staging of your home to get it ready for the market and have it present well to potential buyers -- to making great value-added changes during a renovation that will increase its market value! I think the change to our living room alone added a wow factor that will easily translate to well over $10k when we go to sell it! I cannot recommend Brook of BB Designs & Remodeling strongly enough. She has been incredibly hard-working, detail-oriented, dedicated, creative, flexible and understanding through our various starts and stops in our project. BB Designs is a company that truly wants to make you happy in your home and their love for their works shines through – they are a joy to work with! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for help with the design and/or renovation of their home.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
