Alvin was great - patient with the kids and distractions in the house, skilled with our old and out-of-tune piano, and passionate about the piano and music.
I have gotten a series of guitar lessons from Stevie. The progress I've made is amazing. If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere to ask questions and learn to play guitar, Matthews is your guy. He is passionate about music and your ability to get better. I'm very excited to continue to learn more.
Debbie is a beautiful soul who is very knowledgeable about music. She meets you where you are and works with you to get you where you want to be. I'm excited to continue my lessons with Debbie and to learn as much as possible about singing and music.
Tona is an excellent voice teacher -- my son's range has expanded an octave in just 5 lessons and he is singing with much more confidence. The price is reasonable.
Great to work with and extremely knowledgeable and talented. I was basically picking up a guitar for the first time and think he sets his students up for success, makes it fun and I would highly recommend his lessons.
Don has been very accommodating with our schedule. Also it's a wholistic learning experience. My child is enjoying the lessons and is even practicing without much prompting.
We had a CPR lesson. He was friendly and very accomodating. Not to mention the price, it was the best around!!!
I took bass lessons with Morgan; not only did he teach me bass, but music! Keys, scales, modes, majors & minors... he tailored his teaching to what I could absorb, and opened my eyes to the possibilities...
Sean is great! My son loves his lessons and looks forward to his time with Sean- and his skills have improved tremendously!
Love the lessons! Great pace of instruction-- just enough so that you make steady progress but I never feel rushed
Brian was awesome! I had him perform at my wife's 40th birthday party and he was great. He learned a few new songs (in addition to the extensive list he already knows) that my wife and her friends loved when he sang them. He was very accommodating in that he performed his first set outside and then moved inside. I highly recommend him and will hire him for other parties in the future!
Ben Schwabb/physics & engineering tutor is a real professional: knowledgable, concise, thorough, and presents a well-planned lesson each time. He helped my high schooler pull up his physics grade dramatically and pre-taught an electrical engineering course to my college-age son to get a jumpstart on his fall class. Alex/director is extremely responsive, provides quality tutors quickly, and stays in contact to ensure client satisfaction. Every company should operate this way.
My 6 year old daughter takes lessons with Melissa and we could not be happier with the overall experience and how well she’s learning the piano. Melissa’s patience and ability to teach piano is incredible. My daughter is progressing well wih her lessons and most of all she enjoys it and I attribute that to Melissa.
Singing lessons. Just starting out but Caitlin has been wonderful. Very patient and encouraging.
Larry changed my playing for the best, and I honestly couldn't be more thankful that I was lucky enough to find him. His teaching methodology, knowledgeably about jazz/blues/classical music have absolutely changed my life. Before I started with him, I had been self-taught with scattered lessons from the internet/local players. I had never really developed much of an individual voice on the instrument, and the guitar itself was quite mystifying. I never understood how to put ideas together on the neck with any fluidity, and I never really understood how chords worked/ how scales worked/ the symmetry of the guitar. Larry showed me how to connect musical ideas across the entire instrument in any position, no matter where you are - liberating. You will develop your very own chord and scale vocabulary, and you will have a powerhouse of ways to use it. Once I had the entire instrument at my disposal, he constantly and in innovative ways pushed me to develop my own voice on the instrument - this is key. You will sound like YOU, no-one else, and that is what is so lost in most guitar instruction these days. Not only will you unlock the neck of the guitar, you will do it with the most minimal effort possible. His methodology focuses on using the least amount of energy possible to achieve your musical goals. Playing went from a frustrating and confusing mess, to a relaxing and rewarding experience. Again, you will be able to take any tune and make it as originally yours as possible. Not only do you get a world-class guitar education, but you also have the added advantage of Larry's extensive theoretical and composition knowledge\experience. You will develop these areas of musicianship in tandem with your guitar playing: 1.) Ear training\sight-singing\sight-reading: Larry highly emphasizes and nurtures this important skill. He teaches you to hear musical ideas - you will sing them, write them, and eventually play them. Specifically, you will learn to hear patterns from scales, chords, intervals, and larger compositions. This is HUGE if you play any improvisational music, or with a group - your ears are everything. You will learn how to sight-sing musical notation also - a seemingly forgotten skill among anyone else I've encountered. You will learn how to sight-read music in every position on the guitar possible. This idea coincides with his general methodology: no matter where you are on the instrument, you will be able to express an idea. This is a great skill that I've been able to vastly improve upon - and believe me, I was terrified of sight-reading. 2.) Rhythm training: You WILL learn how to keep time. I often avoided sight-reading because I didn't know how to keep time very well. I started off with the basic divisions, and worked my way smoothly and progressively into more challenging divisions. Larry has an amazing ear, so he can point out when you are even slightly off on something, which was a huge help. 3.) Comprehensive music theory: Larry is a remarkably talented classical composer, and he has a ton of experience to boot. You will get the same music theory education as if you were enrolled at a conservatory, with worksheets, exercises, tests, and creative assignments that he developed at Peabody conservatory. You get all this and more. Larry is also a blast to talk to since he has spent so much time traveling around playing music with people. He is a wealth of information regarding other artists, and music history. He's genuinely a wonderful person, he's my musical hero, and one of the most influential people I've ever met. He's one of those once-in-a-lifetime treasures. If you are lucky enough to get a spot with him, TAKE IT. I can't stress enough how much you will thank yourself.
Im so excited to start my lessons with Derrick! After meeting with him I knew he would be the best fit for me. He has such a great personality and I know he is going to help me make great strides to achieve my goals with my vocal lessons with him. I would highly recommend Hewlett's Music Studio to any vocal scholar!!
Annie was one of the kindest teachers I've ever worked with, giving me constructive criticism in a positive way instead of trying to "scare" me into doing it better or differently. She was always open to working on new repertoire and gave me some good suggestions from her own life experience. She knew my voice type and what I was and wasn't capable of, and always pushed me beyond what I thought was even possible for me. She made sure to warm me up appropriately every time. She was also very flexible when I would get sick or things would come up, and always made sure that we got all of our make up lessons in. I would continue to work with her if I hadn't moved to another state!
I went to Paul because although I had been playing folk songs for years I had always had a hankering to learn something a little more jazzy and complicated. Paul was perfect. The breadth of Paul's understanding of guitar styles and music theory is astounding. He is very happy to fit his lessons to the interests of the student and his creativity and patience are endless, so he is an ideal teacher for both novice and experienced students.
I’m glad I’ve met my piano teacher on thumbtack. She’s very patient and share her passion about music in the lessons. I enjoyed her lesson a lot.
My daughter and I met Diego about 2 years ago. Both she and I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Diego was always patient, kind, and found the best learning methods for the both of us. As time went on, I decided to stop taking lessons, do to time constraints, but my daughter continued to play until Diego changed locations. Diego was always the most polite and presentable staff member at the company. He was so great, that I asked him to play at my wedding! I highly recommended Diego Ratana to anyone looking for quality and integrity in the music industry.
Max Kuzmyak is a very knowledgeable musician with a large skill set that is useful in the music industry. He can teach trumpet, guitar, voice, and has extensive theory knowledge as well. He is also well versed in recording and audio engineering. Max is very friendly, easy to work with, and professional. I would highly recommend working with him if you are looking for a private teacher, or a recorder.
