Counseling goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My goal is to work with couples to not only prepare for the wedding, but to prepare for the marriage and life together. In preparing for the service, I want to make it personal to each couple, and not simply a "cookie cutter" that has not considered the setting, the couple, and their lives together. Also, I work hard to make the service as enjoyable (even fun!) as possible, while remaining faithful to the purpose of asking God's blessing upon the marriage. I have been a pastor since 2001. I enjoy helping folks start their new lives together off on the right foundation. My fee includes four premarital counseling sessions, service planning, rehearsal, and the service. There is no travel fee. I have conducted weddings at this venue several times.

My wife Lindsey and I had the pleasure of working with Art as our pastor throughout our wedding process over 5 months. We had met Art through family friends and immediately hit it off. We knew that Art would be the best fit for marriage counseling and officiating our wedding as he paid tremendous attention to detail. He wanted to know every bit of our "story", any reservations or hesitations about marriage (and our special day), and how we wanted to incorporate our love for God into our ceremony. As we are busy, career-driven professionals, it was wonderful to have a pastor that was up on the times and could easily jump on Skype to have counseling sessions remotely. Art was very flexible and accommodating as far as scheduling counseling sessions, and was able to roll with some of the curveballs thrown on our wedding day (e.g. down pouring in the middle of our ceremony and starting back up again at another location). But most importantly, Art was able to help us better prepare for a lasting marriage with a clear mind, warm soul, and open heart. He helped us ask the difficult questions to one another as we were preparing to be married. We addressed faith, money, family, and even specific details about our wedding day. We loved how easy Art was to talk to and how excited he was to be a part of our day! The personal touch he added to our ceremony, through incorporating our families and what he had learned about us in counseling, allowed us to more clearly see the true meaning of our wedding day: the beautiful act of marriage in front of God and our loving friends and families.

Art was the perfect pick for our wedding. He was professional and personable all at the same time. We met a few times as well as Skyped to get to know each other better. My husband and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. We had an outside wedding and yet it still felt as though we were in a church due to the prayers and religious ceremony. Art was also affordable. We made sure to invite him to the rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding. It was a joy to have him at both. I would recommend his services to anyone.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My fee includes pre-marital counseling (typically 4-6 sessions), all but one of these we normally conduct via Skype or video conference. The in-person session is mandatory so that we can walk through the service in detail. The fee also includes the rehearsal, ideally one day in advance of the service, and at the same location as the service at the same time of day or as close as possible. The rehearsal is mandatory, because everyone needs to be comfortable with the service so there are no worries about the mechanics of the day. There is no additional fee for me to attend the rehearsal dinner or wedding reception and offer a blessing at the meal, but I do ask that you let me know as early as possible if you would like me to attend.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Pastors in most parishes and congregations work very hard--60 to 80 hour weeks are not unknown. We get surprises--funerals, for example--that toss a well planned week right out the window. Also, while there are some pastors who make a lot of money (often more from their books and speaking engagements), most of us are making a lot less than you would expect for someone doing most of the day-to-day work in a parish.
