Introduction: IMPORTANT: I am a Boutique Photographer, meaning that I bring a unique and high-quality vision to your photography. Many times, I will acquire things specifically with you in mind. My clients and I choose each other because that’s the kind of attention and service they want, and it’s what I provide. If the following describes you, then you’ll likely want me as your photographer: You want to look and feel good about yourself. You want a smooth experience. You know the value of the physical prints as opposed to swiping through pics on a cellphone... If you're still on-board, allow me to introduce my process: I take a conversation and turn it into art. At the level a true artist operates, quality images are a given—it's expected—and so we move on to those things that can't be delivered by anyone else, which is the authenticity of the art I'm producing for you. Before commissioning any artist to capture your unique features, you should know if their style matches what you want. This is a breakdown of my style; you'll see it at play in every image in my example portfolio: 1. Crisp lighting. 2. Authentic storytelling portraiture. 3. Color harmony between subject and background. I'm offering a value-based experience instead of a budget service. You may wonder what that means in terms of what you get. How's this: ➜ Reliable, professional service ➜ On location/in studio hair stylists available if needed ➜ On location/in studio makeup artists if needed ➜ Lighting and pose coaching ➜ Fine art-quality retouched images ➜ At least one matted 8x10 print ➜ An online album of downloadable, sharable images ➜ A sharable digital experience triggered by your print ➜ The ability to purchase prints online As a reminder, when you commission me, you're working with an artist. This applies to everything from parties to portraits. I'm priced so that I can provide all of this to those who know what it's worth. Hundred-dollar headshots would not allow me to give you the time you deserve and to produce the art you should have. DISCOUNTS: Are available for military veterans, and especially for Wounded Warrior Project-affiliated folks.

Commercial Photography

Terrance was so wonderful to work with. He is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, but still has an easygoing, fun, flexible personality, which is just as important when choosing a photographer. He was available at short notice for a professional team photo session, which consisted of group shots and headshots. He had all his professional equipment ready to go and we got everything we needed to get done in just 1 hour, because he was great with his communication and planning. He let me know what color scheme we should all wear and he was right! It looked much better than what we were originally planning and it reflected the atmosphere of our business. He was so great at accommodating my needs to have specific photos turned around quickly for marketing deadlines. He made sure the photos were exactly to our liking and went above and beyond with editing to make sure it met his standards. You can’t go wrong with choosing Peerless Portraits. Terrance is a great, trustworthy professional to work with and produces excellent work in a timely manner. Thank you Terrance for your help with our marketing needs!

Portrait Photography

Terrance was a wonderful collaborator. He really cares about your vision and your story and wants to help you bring your ideas to life. While shooting with him he was creative, professional, and accomodating. Overall, great experience and I received high-quality photos for a great price. If anyone is looking to get photos taken, I would recommend them to take a look at Peerless Portraits.
Peerless Portraits's reply
Creating with another artist allows me to begin several steps ahead of where I’d normally start producing the art. Donna definitely brought an energy to the session that really put me and the makeup artist in the position of just bearing witness to greatness. I feel like this response is a review of her instead of the standard “was great working w/you” but there it is nonetheless.

Wedding and Event Photography

Terrance is awesome! He took the photos of my sons Bar Mitzvah—both before the event at the synagogue and after the event at our small family gathering. He truly wants his clients to be happy so will work with you so you are. He truly appreciated feedback as well—some photographers get annoyed if you ask, for example, to make a picture warmer etc. Before editing all of the photos he sent a couple options for the overall feel/look for me to choose from which was cool—no photographer has done that before, I guess they just assumed I would like what they thought was best. We also have a family member who always has awkward smiles, and he was magically able to merge photos so that we got the best smiles from everyone in that family photo. We bought a lot of prints in various sizes, and they are hands down the most beautiful/high quality prints I have ever seen. Terrance walked us through every step in the process and put in the order for us. We chose to have them framed and Terrance helped us figure out which frame styles/colors would look best. They arrived framed ready to go on the wall (after close quality inspection from Terrance)! We also bought an album that is gorgeous, and has a cool live video feature using an app to play them for some of the pics. I look forward to working will Terrance again in 3 years for my second sons Bat Mitzvah!

I’ve mentioned this before, but I feel like a photographer is a “personal historian”. It was honored to be in a position to capture that special moment of transition and the ensuing celebrations.

Headshot Photography

Terrance was very friendly as easy to get along with, from the moment I talked to him on the phone to the moment I got to his studio, I did not feel uncomfortable at all. It felt like I was working at home. For new or experienced, Terrance is a great photographer and I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking.
Peerless Portraits's reply
Wow--Thanks for that review, David! I've said it before, but a pleasant, conversational experience is why I offer my services as a portrait artist! I'm so glad that you recognize the overall experience is just as important as the resulting images. Yours will serve you well!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I'm providing an experience and service that's on the higher end of what you'd typically expect from a gig-for-hire site. Where some might differentiate on price, I differentiate on attention, image quality, print quality, value, and the emotional reactions from my clients. If you’re looking for straight dollar amounts, you can dip your toe into a true professional portrait experience for as little as $300, but my patrons typically invest $800 or more for their art. Also, I shoot for the walls! 🖼 Now, if you’re just wanting something to share on social media and be seen on small screens 🤳🏾, I can provide the best for that as well. But the time that I spend on attention to every color, detail, lighting and shadow-play is because the art I produce for you is really intended to hold a physical space in the world. So, I’m what’s known as a “print photographer.” And I really only make a personal profit when you commit to purchase prints. My quotes are just based on production costs, so that I can tell your story in the way that it deserves to be told, and my company doesn’t go bankrupt in the process.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After my services have been secured through the contract and/or the retainer. We'll communicate either by Zoom, phone, email, text, or face-to-face to set the theme of the session. This is to establish the mood of the images, the location, the expectations, and the types of setups that will be used for the session. During the session, I'll sometimes have a lighting assistant or two with us. If hair/makeup artists were included in the package, they'll be tagging along as well. The location(s) will have been pre-scouted in the majority of cases, so there's no need to worry about posing or angles as I will have already worked that out during the location scouting. That way, we'll have plenty of room and time to allow for spontaneous creativity—and that’s when the real magic begins! The type of session and workload pretty much determine the timeline for delivering the images, but the deadline for me will be in the contract. I typically deliver well before the deadline, and present you with a private online gallery where you'll be able to select your prints included with your package. Most importantly, I treat EVERY session as an audition for your repeat business.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I'm a member of Portrait Photographers of America (PPA). But I don't believe that's an important question unless you're doing an article for Thumbtack. So, here's how I view education/training/equipment conversations, because THIS is all that really matters to me: When I get an emotional response from a client, I know that I've made good on my promise to show their moments in the best light. Capturing the apparent and the hidden beauty in our lives in the printed, digital, and hybrid forms is my passion. Now, if you'd like to LEARN more about it, I'd be glad to show you!
