- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I'm providing an experience and service that's on the higher end of what you'd typically expect from a gig-for-hire site. Where some might differentiate on price, I differentiate on attention, image quality, print quality, value, and the emotional reactions from my clients. If you’re looking for straight dollar amounts, you can dip your toe into a true professional portrait experience for as little as $300, but my patrons typically invest $800 or more for their art. Also, I shoot for the walls! 🖼 Now, if you’re just wanting something to share on social media and be seen on small screens 🤳🏾, I can provide the best for that as well. But the time that I spend on attention to every color, detail, lighting and shadow-play is because the art I produce for you is really intended to hold a physical space in the world. So, I’m what’s known as a “print photographer.” And I really only make a personal profit when you commit to purchase prints. My quotes are just based on production costs, so that I can tell your story in the way that it deserves to be told, and my company doesn’t go bankrupt in the process.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After my services have been secured through the contract and/or the retainer. We'll communicate either by Zoom, phone, email, text, or face-to-face to set the theme of the session. This is to establish the mood of the images, the location, the expectations, and the types of setups that will be used for the session. During the session, I'll sometimes have a lighting assistant or two with us. If hair/makeup artists were included in the package, they'll be tagging along as well. The location(s) will have been pre-scouted in the majority of cases, so there's no need to worry about posing or angles as I will have already worked that out during the location scouting. That way, we'll have plenty of room and time to allow for spontaneous creativity—and that’s when the real magic begins! The type of session and workload pretty much determine the timeline for delivering the images, but the deadline for me will be in the contract. I typically deliver well before the deadline, and present you with a private online gallery where you'll be able to select your prints included with your package. Most importantly, I treat EVERY session as an audition for your repeat business.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a member of Portrait Photographers of America (PPA). But I don't believe that's an important question unless you're doing an article for Thumbtack. So, here's how I view education/training/equipment conversations, because THIS is all that really matters to me: When I get an emotional response from a client, I know that I've made good on my promise to show their moments in the best light. Capturing the apparent and the hidden beauty in our lives in the printed, digital, and hybrid forms is my passion. Now, if you'd like to LEARN more about it, I'd be glad to show you!
