Introduction: Many people who have just met me ask, "Were you raised by your grandparents?" Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to know my grandparents, but I think their comments reflect the idea that my parents raised me with many ideas that are now seen as "old fashioned," ideas such as, "If you're going to do anything, do it with all of your heart," or "Respect yourself enough to do your best; a piece of you is reflected in everything you touch." I honestly believe the lessons I was taught, which is why I've been successful in some of life's major goals, like paying off my home before the full mortgage was due, or losing a good deal of weight. I'll be very honest and say that many times, I've met people who remember having met me, and I've had to admit not remembering them. I've felt badly about that, but it also makes me feel proud to be memorable. I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. Being helpful and having the opportunity to ease a person's burden is a wonderful feeling.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do. Just this last weekend, I came from an Advocacy training in Richmond, and tomorrow I am going to a volunteer meeting for mediators.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began as a volunteer when I was very young and fell in love with it!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I do research, I find things that they need, like money resources, health care resources, rental resources or I do a lot of talking/counseling/mediation work. I am also a recovery coach, so I can assist those who have substance use issues or who have friends or family with substance use issues.
