I have completed four lessons with Crystal at M Institute for the Arts. I found the online booking system works well, and my lessons begin promptly. The classes are hosted in a nice location in Georgetown, and I have found Crystal to be a very encouraging and patient teacher. Looking forward to continuing!

Met Steve when he was playing a show at a local pub- got to talking and shared with him my 11 year old son's passion for music and learned that Steve gave guitar lessons. Met him on a Thursday. By the following Monday, he was sitting in my home teaching my son to play Everlong- Steve is passionate, enthusiastic, and professional- he's a full time musician- this IS his thing!! Communication with him re: lessons, etc is very easy- and my son thinks he's super-awesome- which bodes well for his own enthusiasm regarding pursing guitar. Highly, highly recommend.

As a beginner, I was in search for a patient and dependable guitar instructor. Bernardo went above and beyond to ensure my learning experience was fun and productive. He did not bog me down with technicalities alone but rather instilled a sense of listening needed for aspiring musicians to succeed. Most importantly, he taught me the value of being responsible for my own learning experience, I took his advice seriously and excelled. Thank you Bernardo!

Diego is a natural teacher with a God-given talent. My daughter has only been taking guitar lessons for 4 1/2 months, but I am amazed by her progress and accomplishments. She learns something new each week and walks out of each lesson with a big smile on her face. He is very kind, encouraging and knowledgeable with a fun and diverse repertoire. I highly recommend Diego.

Dan's a fantastic teacher because he makes you want to be a better musician. He uses different ways of instructing that specifically cater to your tastes and interests. He's familiar with a wide range of music, genres, and instruments. I came to Dan for beginner guitar lessons, but ended up gaining much more musical knowledge than I could have ever imagined. Dan helped me with the technicalities of the guitar, and helped me refine and add to my skill as a drummer of 11 years. In Jam Class, we played everything from James Brown to Nirvana. Dan is able to foster a great community of musicians within Jam Class, and will not only teach you to play, but to perform and work with other musicians.

When I started lessons with Larry, I had been taking guitar lessons for three years under a ‘learn by learning songs’ method. I didn’t know exactly what I needed, but I knew that I wanted get deeper into music, both theoretically and in my guitar work. I tend towards a combination approach of intellectual and emotional, and I value doing things well, and seeing its link to the larger picture of music. When I pursued Larry as a teacher, I realized I was taking a ‘next step’. What I found in Larry as a teacher and person is an expert in blues music and in how to teach music, particularly guitar. He has piqued my intellectual interest and challenges me to keep learning both the guitar techniques and theory. I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for, but this was it—a Peabody Institute-quality education mixed with blues experience, theory and then throw in endless stories about music from the sixties onward, because Larry was there. You can read his bio for all of the things he’s done, and they’re numerous, but I keep learning more. Most importantly, though, Larry is a great teacher. I trust Larry, and I know he sees something in me. He is a cheerleader-style coach, but an honest one. I know that when Larry tells me that I have potential or talent in a certain area, that he’s telling the truth. He’ll be just as honest when I’m not doing something well, also. Larry has a system that works, and he knows how to teach it and adapt it to my style of learning. My understanding of music, my ear especially, has grown leaps and bounds since taking lessons from him—I no longer feel frustrated, like I’m missing something. I know that if I continue to practice what he is teaching me, I am going to be an expert at guitar and will perform publicly. Larry is an amazing resource, a wonderful teacher, a composer, and a pretty funny guy. Most importantly he’s serious about, and seriously involved with and expert in music—he’s inspired me and he’ll inspire you.

I've been taking guitar lessons with Tim for the better part of the year and I couldn't be happier with my experience. He's talented, patient, and super accommodating to my whacky schedule. We've worked on various styles such as Jazz, Folk, and Blues and thanks to Tim I've made significant progress in my guitar playing! I highly recommend Tim as a teacher.

I was already an intermediate guitarist when I began lessons with Marcus Truelove. He has a reputation among area guitarists as professional and very knowledgeable. He exceeded my expectations in every way. I was at a learning plateau and quite frankly, all over the place on the fretboard when I began lessons. Over the course of two years, he was able to smooth out my technique and improved my timing immensely. I especially like that he was able to teach to any level of ability and covered a lot of material in every lesson. His level of understanding made playing a lot easier for me and the results were almost immediate. He uses an easy to understand building block approach to teaching. He will give you honest feedback on your progress/ability and set reasonable expectations for your next lesson. His lessons are an excellent value and I reserve for him my highest recommendation.

He is also well versed in recording and audio engineering. Max is very friendly, easy to work with, and professional. Gregg is an excellent guitar instructor, who excels at providing guitar lessons catered to your preference and in a way that will allow continued growth. He effectively explains the lesson and works to ensure that you have a substantial enough understanding to enhance your abilities at home. As with anything, your improvement depends on the time you put in outside of the classroom, but Gregg will ensure that his time with you gives you the understanding, as well as insider tips, on how to improve your guitar playing, and in a way that will allow you to continue to grow the most effectively and avoid hitting a ceiling, from holding the guitar properly, to understanding chord progressions.

I started taking guitar lessons with Paul after having stopped instruction 5 years before. I found the lessons engaging and relevant as he invites you to explore your areas of interest while instilling the fundamental tools necessary for any musician. These included progressions that allow the greenest to pick up and play along with friends, and the development of essential play by ear skills. Paul was also extremely flexible with scheduling, in addition to coming to my residence. He also charged very reasonably for each lesson.
