I have been working with Anthony for a couple weeks now and have really enjoyed it. He is great for all levels. Every class I get a mix of circuits, cardio, kickboxing, wrestling, etc. Each class is exciting because it's never the same. I feel great after I leave and am always looking forward to the next class. Great find and very professional!
I could not have found a better boxing or martial arts gym in the entire Metro area. My boxing instructor, Frank Sheppard, is an excellent, helpful, patient teacher who knows exactly what he is doing. The other martial arts classes also look like they are run by highly knowledgeable professionals. I rate Bowerhouse Academy as outstanding.
I've been training at, or managing health clubs for over 12 years. I've seen some good trainers and a lot of bad ones. Burak is one of the few elite trainers out there today. He identifies the client's fitness goal, and creates a program suited for those goals and objectives. Whether you want to get lean, put on mass, or learn some world class striking from a real athlete/fighter, he'll get you there quicker than any trainer I know in the business. No cookie cut workout programs from this guy.
Ms. Valencia provides private self defense lessons for my 19yr old son and 16yr old daughter. They both and I enjoy her. She's very professional, and has opened our eyes to so many simple things we had no idea about. This lady definitely is skilled and knows what she's talking about/doing. She's very flexible with scheduling and both of my kids look forward to training with her every week. I'm even thinking about training under her! Since my daughter has been taking lessons, her confidence, awareness and entire attitude has made a great change for better and my son as well. I'd definitely recommend her for anyone looking for self defense training!
Learning the art of Baguazhang at the Chinese Boxing Academy has been extremely beneficial for me on many different levels. I am in better shape now then I have been my entire life. My balance, flexibility, and endurance have all increased immensely. I have also gained a strong foundation in martial arts skills that could be applied to any other martial art I wish to learn. The Chi Gong that we practice is outstanding and no matter how tired or lousy I may feel before starting a class, I ALWAYS feel markedly better afterwards. The school has a very laid back and nonjudgmental atmosphere. Sifu Greg Hatza is both patient and knowledgeable.
Greg personally trains me in boxing, since May 2014, and it's been a fun and fulfilling experience. He well understands my strengths, weaknesses, and preferences which helps our sessions to run smoothly. He's also a goofball and makes training fun!
I would highly recommend Baltimore Martial Arts Academy for many reasons and from a couple different view points. As a student - Gary Berger and his staff are experts instructors not only in martial arts but fitness of both mind and body. I have been in the military for 21 years, have lived all over the world and have never seen a gym with so many different courses of instruction. Such a wide array and blending of talent is hard to find and almost impossible in a single school. Patient and professional - I have found these instructors to look at the individual and tailor classes to student needs and goals. The plethora of instructors is simply amazing. I have 3 Aikido instructors my son has 5 different jujitsu instructors and my daughter has 2 different kickboxing instructors - getting all of there collective strengths and experiences - class never gets boring or routine. As a father - I have two teenagers attending Baltimore Martial Arts Academy and can not imagine a better environment for an extracurricular activity.My Son has attained his black belt in mixed martial arts and is working on belts in both judo and straight jujitsu. He is on the competition team and has competed nationally in numerous grappling and judo competitions - qualifying this year for the judo junior nationals this summer. It has been a great outlet for teenage aggression for both kids and has shown them a positive way to harness energy that would be otherwise wasted. His skills will serve him well in high school as he plays football and wrestles. My Daughter is working on a belt in mixed martial arts and taking kickboxing classes. Not the competitor her brother is I have found the discipline and fitness she is learning will carry on through her entire life. As a father it is good to know that my daughter can defend herself and walks with a confidence that she may otherwise have not found. My children are the most important thing in my life and my greatest legacy - I feel blessed to have found this gym with such a large group of both male and female role models to help me raise my children and instill the values we all find so lacking in the world today. It is refreshing to find a place where integrity, honor, respect and discipline are not only preached but taught, practiced and expected. I've trained with John ("Bones") for several months now. I'm 42 and was looking to get back into shape and try boxing which - something I have always wanted to do. His personal training sessions are an excellent workout and he presents a varied training program specifically tailored to everyone's abilities and goals. Having never tried a boxing/mma gym before myself, I highly recommend Shaddock MMA to people of all skill/age levels - particularly to novices who have always wanted to try this type of training but have never gotten off of the couch to do it.

This was my first Thumbtack experience so I did not know what to expect. I called Alex and booked an initial meeting for a self defense class. I was so impressed with his knowledge and ability to teach to me (someone with absolutely no experience in self defense) that I hired him immediately. I would recommend him in a minute, I can't explain how much fun each training is while at the same time also getting a tailored workout as well as learning useful and practical skills!!
I've been working out with Todd for almost 10 years. I started as one of his boxing students but kept going to my personal trainer. My former personal trainer had me looking good physically but I was not really physically fit. I consolidated all my training with Todd because I wanted to look good AND be fit. My physical strength rose dramatically after I trained solely with Todd, especially core strength and endurance. My doctor always comments on the change when I go in for my annual physical. Most of the personal trainers at large gyms in D.C. focus on physical appearance over usable strength, but strength, balance, and endurance are really what you want to aim for. You'll look good if you are truly physically fit. Most of Todd's clients have been with him for a long time, so I would say they all understand this. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who wants to both look fit and, more importantly, BE fit.
I have been training with Aaron for almost a year and am in the best shape of my life. Aaron has extensive knowledge of both boxing training and traditional strength and condition training and combines both in his workout. He knows how to pace training to be difficult but within my capability and steadily raises the bar each session.
The story of how Junaid came to transform into a Muay Thai boxer (a successful one at that) should prove to everyone that he has such a deep passion for not only the sport, but for health and fitness in general. Nick is an awesome trainer! I've been working with him for a month so far on a 3-month, 1x/week plan. He's very responsive to messages and is open to text communications which is super convenient. Don't let his age fool you - he has great experience, particularly from his personal MMA training and career. He has been excellent in modifying exercises to meet my needs / accommodate my limitations and keeping me motivated. I've never sweat so much in my life - really feel like I'm getting great value for my money!
I am in my 40s and wanted to learn martial arts and get into shape. I tried several traditional martial arts schools without learning much. At one place, the white belts (beginners) were an afterthought for the instructors. I took a few more trial lessons at other schools. I found myself training with young children. Nothing against kids but I wanted realistic self defense skills which are not developed against 9 year olds. At the last school, I was immersed in boot camp training (did a bazillion push-ups, bear crawls, jumping jacks, etc. etc.) Karate skills took a back seat to the workout. This kind of training is fine if that is what you are looking for, but I wanted to learn practical martial arts skills without having a drill instructor yelling at me. I have had several lessons with Jordon now, and I can tell you they have been well worth it. I learn more during a 1 hour lesson than I did in several weeks at the martial arts schools I went to. Jordon is positive and encouraging, and is mindful of the physical limitations that I have (arthritis). He teaches Shorin-Ryu Karate which is not flashy but is all about practical and effective self defense. I am also getting into shape gradually at a pace my body can take. I highly recommend Jordon.
Hey All, So I've had the pleasure of training with Andrew for a few short months. We're former co-workers and that's when I learned he was an amateur MMA fighter. He would always talk about the training and would show me a few techniques here and there, so that's when I decided to ask him if he wouldn't mind training me just once or twice a week. I wanted to learn basic boxing and kickboxing, and he was very patient and really broke it down for me. It's also an incredible workout! After I started mastering some of the basics, the workouts would get more intense and I would leave extremely sore. However, I was losing weight, which wasn't my primary focus, but it was a great bonus. He even gave me advice on proper nutrition and dieting, as well as strength and conditioning workouts to do on my own which has allowed me to see continued results. I have 4 children, and I don't feel like I'm killing myself! I even went to one of his fights this year and saw some him use some of the same things he taught me. It's awesome to know that I was learning legitimate techniques that can work in an actual fight. Overall Andrew is a great trainer and person to be around. I would highly recommend working with him Jai Johnson
Positive Impact Martial Arts is exactly that. An extremely positive and professional environment with experienced and encouraging instructors teaching modern and traditional martial arts. All instructors promote good health and a positive attitude at all times. I told them my desires from the class and received them. I was challenged to meet my goals and was given encouragement as I climbed the ladder. It’s awesome, they have classes for adults and kids! You may have the option to train with your child!
