Thomas is just starting out as his own business, but I liked that: -he has worked in different parts of the roofing industry for a significant amount of time -was the only one (tried 5 companies) to return my inquiry and he did so within a day on a weekend (4th of July weekend, at that)! -he is independent and not particularly tied with a roofing company (though he can give you roof estimates for two companies he consults for if you want) -very reasonably priced -very friendly and honest -took the time to show me things and explain about roof construction -described simple repairs i could do on my own and offered to teach me when I am ready. Thomas was very professional and personable, thorough, and efficient during the roof inspection. Gave me the peace of mind that we have a few more years left on the roof as long as we take care of a few things, confirmed the home inspector's report, and educated me to better protect myself against storm chaser roofers. Highly recommend his services, would do business with him again, and wish him the best as he starts out with his own business!

Delightful Contracting was truly a delight to work with. Ryan was the first of three contractors we met with for our kitchen remodel project—a project we waited nine years for! We told him our vision, and he was very upfront about what was realistic and what wasn’t. He even told us things to look out for when reviewing competitor proposals. By the time he left, we knew he was the one for the job. One contractor came in much too high, and commented our budget would only get us materials. The other contractor was over and hour late for our appointment (he ran out of gas), and extremely slow to respond. That didn’t give us a good feeling. Needless to say, Ryan was awarded the contract! He worked with us on pricing, and gave us the most bang for our buck. He went above and beyond his contractual responsibilities. For example, I couldn’t get off work for a delivery. Ryan was out picking up supplies, but left to meet the vendor at my house for the delivery. On another occasion, he cut down a non-standard door to save us the cost of a special order. Ryan has held our hand during the entire process. He suggested finishes, paint color, accessories, and made himself available via phone for any questions that came up along the way. We felt like we were hiring a trusted friend. For this reason, we had no reservations providing Ryan with keys to our home so he could come and go freely during the day. We are beyond pleased with our remodel project, and highly recommend Ryan based on price, attention to detail, and professionalism.

Brandon Construction was very reasonably priced and the quality of work was excellent. I was so impressed with their professionalism and prompt service that instead of one job, I had them completed seven different jobs ranging from hardwood floor replacement (3 rooms), widening doors, opening a wall to add counter space and painting. All works was done efficiently - most within one day for each job. When I had to select materials (granite/ flooring, etc.) they recommended vendors that have quality materials and knowledgeable staff as well as reasonable pricing. Every step of the process was easy and the results were amazing. I am so pleased!!!! I would highly recommend them for any home improvement needs. They are really great to work with.

After meeting with four different general contractors, Mr. Marvin Guzman with Baiza Construction, Inc showed his best attitude to take part on a serious complete home improvement we had for our 1956 home. He didn't only provided a quick estimate, But time frame to complete and over all his price. My project was based on a full 2 bathrooms remodeling, plaster walls removal/replacement, insulation, plumbing, electrical, kitchen remodeling and about 2500 square foot of hardwood floor installation. My best recommendation to future hires and families of his great quality work. My contract worth 86k were put on the best hands.

We’ve had PCS complete numerous projects at our home including a new roof (including metal roofing), siding, gutters, a beautiful new custom rail system for the main stairway in addition to drywall/tile/lighting work due to a flood. Mark has always been courteous, professional and easy to work with as his company continually provided a quality product at a great value. We would highly recommend PCS for your next home project.

We purchased our dream home in August. Knowing we would have to replace the roof at sometime in the future. We hoped to have at least another year or so. But no such luck. To make a long story short. It started leaking when we had the first hard rain. I made appointments with 5 different roofing contractors. Jeff Borman was the third and by far the most professional and knowledgeable. And you have to understand our roof is not for the faint of heart. 7100sf of peaks, slopes and valleys. Which he had all the info on due to a application that is available to his company. He sat down with us and showed us the roofing tile that was available through his company. (All top quality) After that he and his team leader of one of his crew. Tackled the roof. The other 4 companies attempted to sell us new sky lights. Jeff on the other hand was able to look at the glass and tell us the date on them and reassured us that it was unnecessary to replace them just to put new sealant. The only thing he suggested. And we totally agreed with. Was that our gutters and downspouts were inefficient for the major slopes of the roof. We explained to him that we had others coming to do bids and if he would put together a proposal and email it by the next day we would let him know. He was not pushy and only expressed his interested in tackling our roof. The proposal was a extremely reasonable price. After getting 2 more bids. And some very unpleasant encounters with pushy salesmen. We called Jeff and accepted his company's bid. We can't say enough about how pleased we are with Jeff and his crews transformation of our roof and gutters. Our home is now more beautiful than the first day we saw it. The professionalism of Jeff, crew and gutter installers are unbeatable. And after some of the very pricey proposals from his competition. We could not recommend them enough.

I'm very pleased with my experience working with Melissa and MJ Home. My completed job looks great and is of good quality. Melissa is friendly, responsive and works with knowledgeable professionals. Two of which are John and Dave. They gave me excellent advice on the future direction of my home improvements and fixed my leaky roof and repaired the damaged dry wall under. MJ is a very good choice for your roofing and drywall repair.

Learned about Curtis' company through work he did for a neighbor who was extremely satisfied with his work. They allowed us to see the work he'd done on their master bath and it looked great. We had our townhouse kitchen renovated by them. Curtis provided a very comprehensive estimate which detailed some items we hadn't considered such as daily clean-up, the payment schedule, and how receipts would be handled for materials purchases. His estimate came in at the middle of 4 estimates we received for tear-down of the original kitchen, new cabinet installation, tile floors and backsplash with some electrical and plumbing thrown in. He was able to accommodate an earlier start date when the cabinets we ordered were available earlier then expected by 2 weeks. He and his 2 assistants worked efficiently and more importantly they took care when doing the demo (and throughout the project) to protect the hallway floors and other areas of the house from dust, dirt and debris. They worked very efficiently and by the end of the 2nd day were starting on laying the tile floor. Cabinet installation went smoothly and he was kind enough to point out a couple items which we needed to report back to the cabinet makers regarding some bowing. Overall the project took approximately 9 business days from start to finish with a few small visits to finish up hardware, trim and reinstallation of the dishwasher once the counters and sink folks (separate company) finished their piece. His 2 assistants were equally pleasant and made us feel comfortable so we could ask questions as needed. We plan to use Curtis' company Oddjobs.pro again for upcoming bathroom renovations and some other work we need done.

TEO Construction did an excellent job. The roofers were punctual and efficient. Roofing is a dirty job with a lot of racket. However, they kept the exterior clean and the racket to a minimum (we left the house for most of the day). My only complaint/suggestion is that a homeowner may want to move or cover any plants or shrubbery close to the home as they may get damaged by falling debris.

A tree outside our house was struck by lightening and threw branches on our house. It wasn't until three months later during a series of torrential rainstorms that we discovered it punctured our roof (all the contractors missed it!) and was leaking. Wilder came out and inspected the damage within hours of me contacting him. He gave a fair quote and returned as soon as it was safe to complete the repairs. He was timely in his work and even did a little more shingle repair than we originally agreed upon (he discovered more in need of replacement when he was up there). He took pictures of each step of his work to show that he did the work he promised, and followed up with me at the close of business to confirm the work was okay. Wilder made a very stressful event pleasant to fix. We plan to contact him for future repairs and recommend him to our friends.

The owner, Phillip, was quick to respond and thoroughly answered all of my questions in the weeks leading up to the project. Their pricing was fair and competitive and he included a 25 year transferrable warranty with the new roof (other contractors offered non transferrable 6-10 year warranties). There was some initial miss-communication about including a skylight installation in the project and he assumed it was a replacement rather than new installation, but he honored his original quote and included the installation at no additional cost. His team promptly returned to repair a leak in one of the skylights a few weeks later and everything has been leak-free since. Overall very good experience and would recommend him to others needing full roof replacements.

Mr. Goodman has been working for my family for years. He is reliable, honest, trustworthy and very competent. He is always the first person we call for roofing, carpentry, electricity, renovations - everything and we are extremely pleased. The best thing I think about Mr. Goodman is that he takes the time to explain what is going on.

I would recommend his family business to anyone. He can take care of small and large projects. Hard to find honest hard working people now a days.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
