Introduction: I would describe my approach to portrait work as lifestyle photography rather than traditional portraiture. I value and will shoot classic portraits, but what sets me apart is my ability to capture clear, artistic and gorgeous images that celebrate the authentic nature of the subject. I encourage clients to be themselves during a shoot. For instance, if your dog is a big part of the family, I certainly encourage the inclusion of Fido in at least part of a session. If hiking is a favorite pastime for a couple, I'd suggest a location that has meaning to them- perhaps a favorite trailhead or state forest. If a new baby has left the house a mess, highlighted roots longer than ideal and the laundry pile higher than normal, I believe in embracing it – honoring the details of your life. They’re what you’ll want to remember 30 years from now. Of course, traditional portraits are nice too and my typical sessions include a nice mix of both candid and posed-but-natural feeling images.
Whether it be a nursery, backyard, local playground or even on a backcountry trail, I'm very willing to shoot on location, in fact, I love it! Want your session to be 3 miles into a forest? - you got it! (I’m also a nature photographer and an avid outdoor recreationist)
My background is in studio and fine art and I feel that my foundation in these specialties greatly influences my photography style. To me, lighting is everything. I love shooting outdoors in natural light. Subjects tend to look and feel more natural in an outdoor setting and the lighting subtleties created by mother nature often make for more interesting and beautiful images that are truly art.
I love photography and even more so, I love to help people honor special moments, phases of life, or even the simplicity of 'every day' through photography.
