I believe Leo did a great job cleaning out my air vents/ ducts. Although Leo did a great job on this project, I do agree with previous reviews on how he often tries to raise the price for little details. I Felt like the price was always up for negotiation; even after we come to an agreement before the work is done.

Awesome Team! They cleaned and relined my chimney and fixed problems on two other fireplaces. Then they cleaned all the HVAC ducts in the same day. I highly recommend this team.

I had Gomez help me with some HVAC work in my bathroom. We needed to move a air vent from the floor to the ceiling due to a bathroom remodel. He was Fantastic. I would recommend him to any friend or family member. He was on time. Price was great. He explained what he was going to do and executed everything on time. Seeing as how I live in an old Arlington house, we of course uncovered issues along the way and he was able to still complete the job without jacking up the price. I cannot say the same for other contractors that I have worked with in the past. If you need Heating and AC work done in your home, call Gomez. He is a great professional.

Excellent service. Bryan was right on time and took his shoes off before entering my home. He used protectors for the door frames and baseboards. He showed the utmost respect to my home. That is hard to find in today's world. I highly recommend him and will call again when my area rugs need cleaning.

Val and his associate did a great job. He didn't hesitate to answer any questions and was happy to provide us with before and after pictures. I expected that the previous home owner didn't clean the ducts and vents, but having these pictures definitely showed me how much it made sense to get the system cleaned. Val also pointed me to three minor issues. Two of them where wrongly rotated vent covers and he fixed one of them right away and let me know that they where previously wrong installed (one screws didn't even hold due of the sheet underneath. In the other case he pointed out that we want to rotate an air intake cover after we paint the room (we don't want to do it now since it would look spotty due of paint gaps). It's obvious that he also looks at the details and notices even esthetic issues when fixing things. Issues I would have never been aware of. That's pretty awesome.

We needed our dryer vent to be serviced and Joseph did a wonderful job. We had the vents cleaned repeatedly and no one could diagnose the problem. Joseph went under the house and found the hoses were not put together properly. He fixed the hoses and the air flow improved 100%. Joseph is a gentleman and works very clean. He worked hard and long - even going outside in a major storm to make sure the system worked. He kept to his estimate and was a pleasure to have in my home. I recommend him whole heartedly. THANK YOU!!! To Jamms. Excellent, well executed repair.

Hired for dishwasher uninstall and haul away. Lassaad came the next day, was clear on price & worked quickly, was neat carrying the old unit out. Also he noticed another a valve that was leaking a little and was able to fix that, as well as explain to me why previous work that had been done had resulted in issues with "dishwasher reflux" and how to prevent in the future. I probably could have found a cheaper price somewhere else but it was a fair price for someone who knew what he was doing and actually could come out (and who actually responded to messages - so many thumbtack pros just don't get back to you). Plus very personable guys

Ernesto Cruz (his company is Salvation, LLC ) installed a dryer vent and washer for me in my finished basement where there was no existing plumbing. I was very happy that to install the dryer vent he did not cut a hole in my basement drywall ceiling where as I has couple estimate previously and both had told me they had to cut the drywall ceiling at least in 2 places! He did a nice job to install new plumbing for the washer. At the end he hooked up washer/dryer and made sure work properly. He always showed up on time, very organized, and completed the job within the timeframe promised. He is polite and got the job done at a reasonable price. I would recommend him to any friend or family member looking for a good plumber. I will contact him for any future plumbing need at my house. Thank you Ernesto!

I own a 60 year old Cape Cod home which was built before air conditioning was available and there is virtually nowhere to run ducts on the 1rst floor. I had 8 different contractors estimate installing A/C in my home and LLC was the only company that provided an acceptable solution at a fair price. They installed a split system and hid the refrigerant lines in the walls. When the job was done, my house was not torn up by the installation and the system works FANTASTIC! Their work is top notch. They answer their phone when I call and they arrived when they say they would arrive. The installation team is trustworthy crew who isn't going to steal things from your house. I highly recommend Integrated Climate Systems for your A/C needs. Use them and you won't be sorry!

Best Company Ever!!! I contacted MJ Home Services originally to have my vents cleaned. John & his team responded immediately and found that I had some mold issues as my home is 62 years old. They completely cleaned my whole system and treated my basement to eradicate the mold. John also did several other jobs for me in addition to the mold treatment including, carpet cleaning, installing a French drain, and many other small jobs which greatly improved our home. John is the Master & is very knowledgeable. He and his team were prompt, courteous, professional, reliable, affordable, and very pleasant to work with throughout the entire process. I highly recommend MJ Services for any air duct or carpet cleaning or any of the services they provide. You will be very happy using this company, which is very rare these days!!! I would give them 10 stars if I could!!!

Dave is a real professional. He came to my house today to look at what’s wrong with my HVAC since it’s not cooling enough. He checked the pressure, attic, vents everything and provided info based on his findings all for free. He also gave me a very good quote to replace my aging system. I would recommend him for any of your HVAC needs

After posting a project for installation of an Aprilaire 2310 media filter and new duct work, I immediately recieved a response from Revolution Heating and Cooling with a very affordable estimate (more so than several local HVAC contractors I had reached out to before). From the very start, Curtis provided excellent service from proposal to the actual installation. He arrived on time and was very friendly as well as knowledgeable. Installation was quick despite challenges with the size of the furnace closet. Will definitely be using for future projects!

We recommend Jim and his team very highly! His challenge was figuring out how to install a central heating and cooling system in a 1851 stable. Not only did he take on the challenge but seemed to revel in it! It was time consuming and amazingly difficult. He even took the time and made the effort to order and install special air ducts to distribute the air flow more efficiently. He returned promptly to tweak the system when we called. He's easy to work with, knowledgeable, able to work outside the box and has the integrity and work ethic it's hard to find these days. We couldn't be more pleased!

Dan was fantastic. He did all he said he would do and then some. He not only cleaned the vents to my dryer, but went into the attic, disassembled the outside vent on the roof, and found the blockage that was keeping my dryer from working properly. I was thinking I'd have to buy a new dryer, but it works great now. He and his crew were very polite, skilled and professional. I will use them again, without a doubt.

As many people would say “I ‘m usually not a person that will sit down a take the time to write a review” but I’ve made an exception this time. Last week I was in need of a new garage door opener and as I was talking with several companies to perform this task I decided to hire Eagle Garage Door. Let me explain why, while speaking with the sales representative with no pressure to buy she explained and educated me on the different types of garage door motors, brands, the different types of spring assembles etc.… They were able to come out and install the garage openers on the same day, the technician was and courteous and performed a professional install removed old parts and clean up. When I called back the next day to inform them that my older model truck HomeLink would not work with the new garage door opener, without hesitation they brought a Repeater over to my house that now allows my trucks HomeLink to communicate with the new garage door opener, at not additional charge. After everything was completed they performed a follow to ensure I was completely satisfied. Overall, I’m very happy that I hired Eagle Garage Door the company’s staff made this task a very pleasant contractor experience.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
