Elmo is exceptional at capturing unique, special and genuine candid moments. He patiently worked with us on our outdoor wedding day on an extremely chilly and windy day. We needed pictures taken in a few settings that involved tricky lighting, included two kids and some were taken in our apartment which is very small. All of our wedding pictures turned out so incredible and are exactly as we would have liked--not super staged and stiff but instead reflected our personalities and the love we share for one another. Elmo went way above and beyond what we even imagined and we are so thrilled with our wedding photos. Elmo also has such a calm demeanor and I would imagine for bigger groups, he would be so skilled at getting people to work together to get the perfect pictures.

My husband and I hired Eric to capture our August 2017 wedding. We were disappointed by our original Videographer so we literally hired Eric a few days before our traditional marriage. Eric was professional, calm and did a great job. We hired him for both our traditional marriage and white wedding. He was always around and available to us during both occasions; he took many pictures in addition to the video footage. He was flexible with edits to our highlight video and sent everything to us timely - both DVDs and the external hard-drive we requested he place the footage. Eric's rate was reasonable and he is wonderful to work with. We would highly recommend Eric.

Unlike the standard $2000+ wedding photo offers we received, Metin understood that we were having a small, family wedding with limited needs and a limited budget. He met with us at the venue weeks before the event, then came on time and worked tirelessly for four hours to chronicle every moment of our ceremony and reception. We are very happy with the memories he provided us. Highly recommended.

We had the pleasure of working with Mark on for our wedding day, and he was by far our best vendor! From the beginning, his communication was quick, clear, and easy. From our first interaction with him, the meet-and greet, he was professional, and his work samples were amazing. He took the time to walk our venue prior to photos, and had great ideas the day-of. Our wedding day was stress free and efficient, many thanks to Mark. We had no idea what to expect regarding photography on a wedding day, but after experiencing Mark, and seeing photographers at weddings after him, we even more so realize he is a grade above! We highly recommend Life Reflecting Images, you won't be disappointed with service, professionalism, and most importantly, the lifetime memories captured in the photos you'll get back. (Added bonuses: working with Mark for your album, the app of photos you get when finished, the downloadable images, and the thumb drive!)

I was a little nervous to trust someone I didn’t know to capture my 50th Birthday Party, but after speaking with Jabraan I could tell he was experienced at this. Jabraan showed up early, took great shots of the event and captured everything for a great price. I’m reviewing the pictures now and it’s like I’m reliving the night but better because now I see all the things I missed. Great Job

I would highly recommend Danglinn Productions for your wedding videography needs! Andrew was extremely professional and very responsive to all of my emails and telephone calls. He was able to accommodate all of my requests to provide exactly what I was hoping for in our wedding video! The actual videographers were Ryan Deal and his wife, Amber, both of which were extremely friendly and professional. They arrived early, stayed late, and were there to capture every single wedding detail that I could've hoped for. They had never shot video at the Naval Academy before, but still captured every important detail and feature of the Chapel like they had filmed there a million times. I didn't even realize they were there half the time so it was a huge treat to watch the video and see all of the amazing details and moments they caught on tape. Andrew Linn did the editing and produced the actual wedding video and highlight clip. His work was absolutely impeccable!! He included all of the important moments and events with perfect transitions between everything. I couldn't be more pleased with the final product and am so happy to be able to watch the videos and relive the best day of my life forever!!

Chris was awesome to work with. He was very responsive when I first initiated contact with him. He filmed our wedding ceremony and showed up on time and was professional the whole time. I had a special request to have him do our highlight video by the next day for a second wedding event and he made an awesome highlight video for us that made me cry when I watched it! Totally recommend him for anyone looking for a good, professional videographer!

Michael of Fisch Eye Productions was personable, responsive and professional. He took the time out to discuss with myself, my daughter and her husband our video needs and requests for personalizing their wedding video. He was very open to catering to our specific requests while using his creativity and professional video skills to develop the perfect video. Now my daughter and her husband will be able to relive those beautiful moments over and over again. His attention to detail was awesome. His dedication to their project was absolutely incredible. He spent the entire day videotaping the rehersal, the wedding and the reception. His prompt development, editing and delivery of the dvd took patience yet the turnaround time was expediently performed. The end product and copies wereof excellent quality. I would highly recommend him, over and over again. Thank you Michael. You gave Kiera and Lu memories that can never be recreated. They will always have their gift of love to be viewed, cherished and shared forever and ever. Thank you for such a professional job from beginning to end. - Rosalind- Mother of the Bride

Jerald and Christina came to my wedding (on short notice) and filmed our very special day. Originally I hadn't planned to have a wedding video but I am so glad I changed my mind. They captured moments from our wedding day that I didn't even think about! They used the music I had chosen for the ceremony as background music which made it even more special. They captured our written vowels to one another and I am so thankful that! I've watched my videos (short and long version) multiple times. I know I made the right decision by having these two to film our wedding. They did great! I'll always have the perfect video to show off our perfect day!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
