I decided to select EBRR prop cleanup after reading some positive reviews from other restaurant operators who needed construction post cleaning. Also, since they are locally owned small business compared to a national francise. The admin Ed bilo when we set the initial appointment for estimate and inspection. The project lead was Luis one of the general managers. Our Indian restaurant had severe dust buildup on the hvac lines and wires which needed to be cleaned. The cleaning took a full day with four cleaners for our 8000 square foot place. There was no dilly dallying and everyone was working the entire time and Ed showed up later to make sure that all the tasked had been completed. I have already scheduled them to come sanitize our kitchen on a monthly basis.

Jose was here to clean my air ducts which to my knowledge had never been cleaned. He and his assistant thoroughly cleaned them. He was pleasant and knowledgeable with me, explaining what he found. Giving me suggestions as well within my HVAC unit wherein there were as well some issues. Gold Stars for his expertise.

Within the past 2 years, we have had to call someone about our upstairs HVAC unit 5 separate times. After Dexter from Logan Mechanical came out, we realized they were simply putting a "band aid" on the situation. Apparently Home Warranty services don't mind sacrificing the quality of service their customers receive. But thank God for Dexter! He came out the same day I requested the service through Thumbtack, assessed the situation and gave us an actual run down of the problem(s) in layman's terms. He also provided us with some suitable options. After reviewing our options, my husband and I decided to get a new unit. Dexter gave us a reasonable price and was able to install it within a few days. You can NOT put a price on piece of mind or quality service. From here on out, I will never use my Home Warranty Service when it comes to issues with either of our HVAC systems! I will be contacting Dexter from Logan Mechanical.

My heating stopped working on the coldest day of the winter when the temperature was 4 degree and happened on Sunday. I put my request on Thumbtack and within few minutes, I got a quote of $90 for diagnosis with 1 hour of service. They came 15 minutes earlier as per the given time (which I will say blessing on the coldest day for service). Kevin immediately start looking on the HVAC issue and told that the HVAC blower motor is gone bad. He gave me the price for entire service (replacing new blower motor)

Excellent service!!!!! I contacted Brian to get an estimate on a HVAC system, we set up an appt. for the next day. I was very pleased with the prices and with the fact that he was very knowledgeable and didn't try to over sale me on product and services that I really didn't need , so I decided to use his company. Mr.Akinfe and his technician provided top notch customer service. Polite, professional, he knows his business, great pricing, I couldn't be happier with this company, they even made sure they cleaned up everything before they left. I highly recommended him. A.J. We were stuck in a hot house with an air conditioning system that wasn't working! This company returned my call within 5 minutes and arranged to come out at a convenient time the SAME DAY. He was on time and immediately diagnosed the problem AND fixed the system!! , showed us the old part and explained what was wrong. His price was great and he offered a 1 year warranty. Now we are cool. Our system is working and we can finally relax. Thank you Old Line HVAC! I am highly impressed with your service and give you 5 STARS! My basement had flooded and then there was mold. They came in cleaned out all the water and got rid of all of the mold! I was so worried we were going to have to sell the house or demolish it! They also did some waterproofing just in case. Everyone I dealt with there was extremely nice and answered any question I had. I would definitely recommend this company!

Matt at Moses HVAC was great! I couldn't believe when my ac went out on Tues night around midnight that someone would answer my project within 10 minutes!! Matt showed the next morning at 11am and our ac was on by 12:30! Folks I am talking about an OLD ac unit too! He was reliable, affordable and didn't try to upsell like everyone else. I'll be sending as much business as I can Matt's way and will finally break down and replace that old unit with Moses HVAC next year. Thanks again Matt!

After posting a project for installation of an Aprilaire 2310 media filter and new duct work, I immediately recieved a response from Revolution Heating and Cooling with a very affordable estimate (more so than several local HVAC contractors I had reached out to before). From the very start, Curtis provided excellent service from proposal to the actual installation. He arrived on time and was very friendly as well as knowledgeable. Installation was quick despite challenges with the size of the furnace closet. Will definitely be using for future projects!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
