We moved into a two-bedroom house and our designer recommended EBRR as a general contractor for our major renovation projects. Luis, the project manager, came in, listened to all our needs and specificity notated our request. We had a complete estimate for everything within only a few days including cost and time frames. Barry and EBRR was able to accommodate with all architect's drawings, all subcontractors and permits. The work was done on time and within budget, even with the inevitable surprises that always come up during renovation. They were punctual, always respectful and very neat.

Jennri Ordonez and his team did an excellent job in helping me prepare my unit for sale! I requested painting services and hole patching in several rooms, re-caulking of sections in the bathroom, and a full cleaning. His prices were very reasonable and his team's work was really high quality. I would definitely go to him again and recommend him to others.

Had drywall repair done. Very professional. Covered the floor with a drop cloth, used plastic to cover the furniture, primed after it was repaired and cleaned up when done. The wall looks great! Would definitely recommend and hire again.

Erick and his team are exceptional. I contracted Erick initially to do some minor house repairs. However, after not being satisfied with the work of contractor hired to paint, I asked Erick to do a lot more work to include painting, installation of kitchen appliance, replace flooring, miscellaneous carpentry, and electrical work. Erick was so responsive to my need to get the work done quickly as getting ready to list house. Quality of work is good, Erick knows his trade and made suggestions and recommendations that proved to be invaluable. His team are hard workers and take pride in what they do. And, the pricing is exceptional. Definitely recommend and will use again in the future.

Simply put - Deck Wonders provided us with excellent service and we look forward to hiring them for future flooring and/or deck needs. In fact --- after having our tile installed by Deck Wonders, we hired them for a second project installing beadboard in our laundry room. Deck Wonders is a great company to hire because they are affordable, communicate their schedule and needs properly, do the job right, and finish within a reasonable amount of time. All of these reasons were evident to my wife and I after Deck Wonders completed the initial tiling job we hired them to do. As with most home improvements, some issues don't become evident until after you pay the service provider. At that point you're either screwed because the company won't come back to look at whatever is wrong, or you'll have to shell out more of your own money to find a new contractor to correct the first contractor's mistakes. With our tiling job, we found a few issues with the transition strips between the carpet and the newly laid tile --- namely the corners on the strips were coming up. We notified Deck Wonders and they were able to come out a few days later and properly fix the transition strips at no added expense to us. What made their return visit even sweeter was that we asked Deck Wonders for a quote to install beadboard in our laundry room during this visit --- not only were they able to provide a very competitive quote but they started and finished the installation of the beadboard that afternoon! That alone left my wife and I very impressed.

We have used Mr. Romero's services on several occasions and we have always been impressed with his thorough work. Our last project included fixing drywall, installing mirrors, vanities, medicine chests, tiling multiple bathrooms, installing cordless blinds as well as painting, rewiring and electrical work and installing both ceiling fans and exhaust fans in the bathrooms along with various other tasks. Mr. Romero is always punctual and professional. Moreover, he works exceedingly hard to make the customer happy. By this I mean, he cut into walls and drywall to make mutliple bathroom vanities fit because the walls were concave/not straight and I loved the vanities I had chosen. Additionally, he had to re-plumb the master bathroom in order to get the vanity to fit. In all, Mr. Romero has worked diligently and efficiently on all occasions that we used his services. I would highly recommend his services and we will be using his services again in the future.

Had a great experience using J-Team for a utility sink repair (that fell from the wall and broke the drain pipe). I received a very reasonable preliminary quote through Thumbtack and his subsequent complimentary visit to assess the work matched that price. The work turned out to be a little trickier and longer than anticipated but it gone done very well. I liked it so much I've already asked for quotes for additional things I need done in the house (from bathroom caulking to a kitchen backsplash installation). Jaime is a great guy and I recommend him!

Daniel came to plaster and paint. He showed up on time, went to great lengths to cover my entire house with plastic and drop clothes, and then applied two coats of plaster and paint. I had a ceiling fan hung and a large piece of drywall was removed. Daniel made it look like nothing ever happened. Daniel worked late into the evening, and was kind and courteous. I am very impressed with Visions of Color. I called them on Wednesday, and I was able to book an appointment for the next day. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Jorge and his crew did a fantastic job renovating our entire basement. We had extensive water and mold damage, and the entire basement had to be gutted by a mold remediation company. After all the mold was removed, Jorge cleaned and put up new drywall, installed new cabinetry and countertop, flooring, did a great job repainting, installing doors and many other tasks. Throughout the process he was courteous, professional, and always had a can-do attitude. He worked in a timely manner and his pricing was competitive. We will be using him again and we definitely recommend him.

Wow, I can't say enough great things about working with Abi. We had him paint our basement for us. Right before he was supposed to come paint, we found a mold issue in a wall that we needed to have remediated - this left a large hole in our wall. Abi was able to do the drywall repair for us, and he did a fantastic job - you can't even tell it was there. He consulted with me on the type of paint that would be best for my space with some unusual conditions that I had, gave me accurate quantities to purchase, and then showed up and finished the entire job in two days. I have a construction background and manage about 20 rental units in another state, and of all the painters I've worked with, Abi was certainly one of the most professional, high quality, and excellent value companies. I will not hesitate to work with him again - definitely my go to painter here in Baltimore!

GET Home Improvement and Cleaning LLC completed both inside and outside the house projects. Inside the house, GET Home demoed, framed, drywalled, sistered a joist brace, painted, completed the trim, installed hardwood railing, doors, and corrected the toilet connection. In all three county inspections (framing, pre-conseal, final), Arlington county inspectors reviewed and passed GET’s interior work in the first inspection. Outside the house, GET Home power washed the large patio, stripped and painted a wooden front porch cover and cleaned the property. Overall, I was very satisfied with GET Home’s work and professionalism.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the work of this company. They responded immediately when I reached out and answered every question I had regarding moving my furniture. They were flexible working with me in the short window I had to move. On the day of service, they communicated when they were on their way and when they arrived at my apartment complex, so I knew to be ready. While they worked, they remained professional and friendly the entire time, AND got the job done quicker than anticipated. This company is a complete gem, and I will totally be recommending them to my friends and family.

Mr. Handyman is a passionate professional that performs above and beyond the bar. He responded immediately with a rough quote and came out to our home to complete an on-site estimate, paying attention to the details of the scope of work requested. He also identified some areas that we were unaware of which showed us he knew what he was doing. We decided to choose Mr. Handyman and we are very happy with our decision. Our project, which consisted of framing and installing drywall, had a tight schedule, yet Mr. Handyman and his crew were committed to completing the job. They were timely arrivers and good with communication as they updated us daily on progress. The completed outcome of the project was satisfactory and professionally done as we asked for. These guys are dedicated workers and we hope to have more projects with them in the future when new funds become available because they DO IT ALL!

We had Santos and his team come in and install flooring in our basement and they did a BEAUTIFUL job! They were super nice and professional and the price was more than fair. They even came back at no charge to come fix a piece of flooring that had come a little loose. These guys are the real deal - I will be hiring them again whenever we need a project done. Thank you!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
