Introduction: Charles Legal Services is a general practice law firm. We can help you with criminal defense, civil litigation, family law, and immigration. We also conduct private investigations. Our goal is to provide unparalleled expertise and excellent service. *Please note that we can only accept clients in Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Alaska due to our licensing and the applicable rules of professional conduct. **Our Thumbtack settings indicate that we will travel to our clients. That was necessary to circumnavigate limitations in Thumbtack's programming. Please note that if a face-to-face meeting is necessary, clients will have to come to our office in Potomac, Maryland. However, we can provide most of our services remotely.

Nathan is the advocate that everyone dreams of having in their corner for the toughest situations in life. He’s a humble professional, knowledgeable and accountable, and he also has the kind yet firm demeanor to help you understand the sometimes-unpleasant realities of whatever difficulties may lie ahead. I have no doubt that he truly understands what it means to understand and serve others, in the most virtuous sense of service. I have and would again trust him with the most important outcomes in my life, and you could too.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Full-service representation is by the hour and generally runs $300-$500 per hour, depending on the practice area and the complexity of your case. However, Charles Legal Services also offers limited-scope representation. Limited-scope means that you handle some or most of your case yourself. Charles Legal Services will give you a fixed price for certain services that you need help with. For instance, if you are getting divorced, and you just need an attorney for a mediation or to help you draft a marital separation agreement, you pay a fixed price for just that service.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

If you contact Charles Legal Services for legal help, we will send you an email with a link you can use to schedule a consultation at your convenience. You will pay a small consultation fee, which is designed to make sure your inquiry is genuine and serious. Scheduling a consultation does not necessarily mean that Charles Legal Services will take your case. At the consultation, the attorney will ask you about your situation. He might accept or reject your case during the consultation. However, he will often need to do some research to better evaluate your case and give you proper advice. In that event, he will schedule a free follow-up with you. If the attorney takes your case, he will send you an engagement letter outlining the scope of the representation and the nature of your attorney-client relationship. Once you have signed the letter, he will email you a trust request. You will use the trust request to prepay a certain amount of your fees to Charles Legal Services.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Attorney Nathan M. F. Charles, Esq., has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy. He also has a graduate certificate in Homeland Intelligence from the National Intelligence University and is a graduate of Joint Primary Military Education at the U.S. Naval War College. Attorney Charles also has a Juris Doctorate from American University, Washington College of Law.
