Introduction: I’m Russian concert classical pianist and a former Associate Professor at Sobinoff State Conservatory in Russia. I have won numerous international piano competitions in Europe and Russia, I’m holding DMA and M.M. in piano performance and pedagogy from Sobinoff State Conservatory, the third oldest Conservatory in Russia. From 2003 till 2010 was teaching professional pianists in Russia and Hong Kong at Hong Kong Piano Association. Since 2010 I’m in the USA. Music is my passion and I love sharing my life-long love to classical music with my students. My studio offers private piano and music theory lessons in Potomac, MD. The monthly rate 30, 45, 60, or 90-minute lessons. I believe that everyone - kids and adults - should learn to play piano. Favorite tunes, chords, hands coordination - don’t it look simple? Piano playing is a great brain booster, discipline your mind and will, stress relief, and JOY that can make us happy and successful in life. Elena has been teaching my son for about 4 months now. Everything started out very well, then came the coronavirus. Instead of just canceling lessons, we changed over to FaceTime. This has been difficult for not only my son, but also Elena. However, she still displays the same amount of patience and perseverance nevertheless. She is an excellent teacher who can easily recognize the challenges a student is having. When this occur, she will display patience until the problem is corrected. There are likely plenty of people who attempt to self-teach themselves, but I don’t see how this is possible. Elena focuses on the subtleties of playing the piano, which I have no doubt will pay off later. Her knowledge of music theory and playing the piano is vast. I don’t think there is anyone in the Potomac area who is more qualified. We are blessed to have her in the area. Would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Swenwen is a very knowledgable pianist and an excellent instructor. She has been instructing my child for more than a year now and I see tremendous improvement in not only my daughter’s piano performance skills but also music reading, which is highly important. In addition to standard piano lesson books, she also selects challenging supplemental music pieces that extends and broadens my child’s musical and piano learning. Highly recommend Dr Swensen.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former Associate Professor of Saratov Sobinoff Conservatory in Russia. I am a winner of many international piano competitions in Russia and Europe. I have been teaching professionals in Hong Kong in 2008. Here in US I teach all level students of all ages. Some of them are so good that they play in international piano competitions. My goal is to teach everyone who wants to enjoy playing piano and explore the world of music with joy. It makes me happy!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started teaching right after graduating from conservatory. I got an Artist Diploma after my Master’s Degree. I’ve been teaching professional pianists since 2003. Now I teach kids as well.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I’m a concert pianist from Russia, I enjoyed playing concerts in Europe, China and USA. I love to to play with my violinist partner. All my students are welcome to the concerts every year in Bethesda Steinway Gallery.
