We had an engagement party for two of my kids (25/30) and it turned out great. Stevie was so accommodating and professional. People enjoy the ability to request songs from his extensive catalog. And I got to jam with him on two songs. I'll be sure to hire him again for future functions!

So easy to work with, super sweet and very accommodating! Our residents loved her and couldn't stop talking about how wonderful she sounded! They even got up to sing along while she was playing one of their favorite songs. I will definitely be hiring Brooksley again for our events!!

Don knows his stuff, he's easy to get along with and overall a really nice guy. He has an impressive repertoire of musical skills and a lifetime of experience in music to draw from. As far as instruments he can play a little bit of everything, he can basically teach you any instrument you'd find in a regular rock band, folk, country, pop, blues etc. He's probably most proficient on the guitar and piano but he also knows quite a lot about vocals. If you struggle with theory he does a great job demystifying some of the fundamentals of music theory that are useful to beginners. Whether you're an absolute beginner or long time musician Don will be able to help you out. Highly recommend.

I couldn't have been happier to have David play at my wedding! Nothing but good things to say about my experience with him. He was so easy to communicate with leading up to my event and was more than happy to accommodate anything I needed. I can't say how many people have given compliments on how much they loved listening to him perform. He is extremely talented and has an amazing voice. Not to mention very kind and professional. I would hands down recommend him to anyone who is looking to hire a musician. We didn't get a chance to see him because he played our ceremony and cocktail hour, but we plan to go see him perform as soon as we can!!

From the first gig that I worked with Jay and Trackside, they treated me as part of the group as we worked together to create video and photos worthy of a first class regional band. He and the group have always had my requirements as a priority and keep me informed about the things necessary for me to function in My role with the band. Love working with these guys. One of the best local rock bands ever!!

We had a great time when you were at Dogfish. We loved it! Funny but my friend Arlene tried to dance to "Dillon" (her quote!). I hope we get to go back there on the 11th. It was a great trip down memory lane. You guys rock! Sharon

Mike played at our outdoor event. Great music and great interaction with our crowd. Mike has high-tech equipment that didn't require much space. He fulfilled all requests and kept everyone moving to the music. I have already recommended him to others and look forward to having him DJ my next big event.

Incredible BBQ that tastes so good your first question is - how did you do this? Combine that with a larger than life personality of Big Reggie and the result is an experience that any customer will want to repeat over and over. There are times when I have had this BBQ even on a full stomach and somehow when I had my first bite I was suddenly hungry again! I have enjoyed your BBQ at roadside stops, company events, and at entertainment venues all over Loudoun County ... it never disappoints. Thank you Big Reggie!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
