Party Favor Photo was so much fun to have at our wedding reception! They were punctual and set everything up with no issues at all. They were completely professional and very easy to communicate with in the days leading up to our wedding, and they had all of our digital photos available for viewing the day after the event, which was faster than I expected! Our guests loved having both the photobooth prints and the digital versions available for viewing, and the pictures turned out really well. One thing I appreciated beyond words is that the photobooth attendant flagged my husband and I down at the end of the night, right after our send-off, and told us that we should do a quick shoot in the photobooth since we hadn't had a chance to do so over the course of the very busy and hectic night. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and we both appreciated her thinking of that for us. I had no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them!

Working with DIM Productions was phenomenal. Coordinating beforehand was simple and straightforward, and during our event they were very accommodating and flexible to our specific requests and needs. They provided our pictures and video quickly after the event, and all the pictures turned out great. We are proudly sharing with friends and family. They also had video at our event, for which they provided an edited cut that captured everything that happened during our day. They even enhanced it in a few ways that we didn't see coming, and so we were appreciative of that. Overall, we had a tremendous experience and recommend DIM Productions to anyone and everyone. Very, very pleased!

Great experience working with Gethro. He was one of the few photographers in the area who could provide printed photos on the spot (with our company logo, no less) and we were very happy with his work.

My experience with Elmo Laing was a powerful trigger of personal memory---from light, to set-up, to processing. By all accounts, he is a meticulous craftsman. Through his eyes and indelible images of my party guests, I am still reliving this momentous occasion ---my 60th birthday celebration. In photograph after photograph, Elmo captured every mood and motion of the affair. He documented the dancing, the band, the striking group portraits, the cake, the room decorum, and of course--ME. His photography has played an important role of constructing memory because the stories leap from their stills. His images are stimulants for remembering---happy lives, families and friends, and what & how we celebrate. I hover over these images! That’s what fantastic photographers do….they show the environment, they show what they saw and they work to compose the best for YOU. That is exactly what Elmo Laing produced for me. Oh, wait a minute, did I mentioned that he is patient, polite, and precise with posing & positioning—a good photographer. Thank you, Elmo for your artistry, storytelling and technical ability. I hired MJRvisuals to interview two of my clients and create a testimonial video I could use on my site and for other lead generation and marketing purposes. Malcholm and his team delivered this project in spades. One of my clients even stated how good and professional his crew was shooting the footage and mentioned he may even be hiring MJRvisuals in the future for their own corporate video production needs. I highly recommend MJRVisuals for any of your video production needs and will be utilizing them in the future for other projects.

We hired Mark for my Indian engagement party, which included a couple's shoot. We had Mark do the photography and his wife do videography. Mark made sure to keep in touch regularly in the weeks leading up to the event. He would ask us ample of questions and he also researched the Hindu engagement ceremony to be able to better capture the important moments and we really happy with that. On the day of the event, they arrived exactly on time, in fact 30 mins earlier than we expected, giving enough time to set up the cameras, lighting and conduct a photoshoot before the event. Very professional attitude throughout the function. He was very hardworking, and my entire family noticed it. He's one of the only vendors at our event that we felt fully satisfied with. Same goes for his wife, who was taking videos. When the pictures came in, we were in complete love with them. Very high quality and artistic shots. Mark was able to capture the event beautifully and the editing was on point too. I had a bunch of suggestions for editing and Mark was nice enough to incorporate those ideas when editing some important pics, and they came out great. The video was okay too, Mark supplied us with 3 copies of a DVD with the main highlights of the event and also an SD card with basically everything they had captured. We wanted to make sure that the ceremony, speeches, performances, games and free-dancing elements of the night wouldn't go unnoticed and we didn't want to burden any of our close friends or family to take videos for the entire night. That's when we got the idea to hire a team of two photographers and have one of them do the video. Mark's wife is not a professional videographer so some videos were shaky and kept going out of focus but that's because they didn't have a professional video camera which we agreed on to begin with. Overall I have no complaints with this team and I will definitely be hiring Mark and his wife for other family events.

Working with Adam was such a great experience. He was easy to communicate with and always responded very quickly. I’m not quite sure how, but Adam managed to be everywhere. He was always present for important moments and he even managed to catch a lot of unexpected magical moments. He worked extremely well with our photographers. They seemed to be working together the entire night to get the best photos and footage. I couldn’t be happier to have hired Adam. We have a wonderful video to cherish for years to come!

I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect photographer. Someone who can take beautiful, natural pictures without costing a fortune. When I stumbled upon Miguel at a bridal show, all my prayers were answered. Miguel was the best photographer I could've ever asked for. My rehearsal and wedding pictures are stunning without even being edited or photoshopped. His angles and lighting are spectacular and he was able to capture so much even though he was my only photographer with 300+ guests. I had my ceremony followed by a cocktail hour and then reception. Miguel was there from 1pm to 12am with a smile on his face the entire time. He was pleasant to work with and extremely hard working. It was important for him to capture my wedding completely, not to watch his clock to make sure I am not going past my time. I definitely recommend him for all your events, wedding or otherwise.

Everyone who sees it admires and compliments Steve's web design for my online gallery (Vicky Arana Fine Art at rvaranafineart.com). Steve coordinated with photographer Brendan Mattingly and radically adapted a template web design to speed up the uploads of the huge picture files involved. He was pleasant in response to and quick to execute the improvements called for by a quality control professional who reviewed a late-version draft of the site. I get compliments on my art works every day and am delighted with the results of Steve's labors, especially about whatever he did to make my artistic presence on the Internet so huge! We have an understanding that he will be the one to do updates when they become compellingly necessary.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
