FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I base my quotes on a free sample edit of a few pages - this, alongside a discussion with the client, gives me an indication of the level of editing required. I work out the total based on the number of words overall, 250-word manuscript pages and my hourly rate. I am clear up front with a fixed quote and ask for a deposit to start. I am flexible with payment plans, depending on the length of the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I speak with a new client either on the phone, via Skype or in person and get a good idea of what they are wanting to achieve overall and specific services they want. We then discuss timeframe and budget. I ask for a deposit to start working and away we go! For a larger project (like a book) I check in every few days with questions and comments so that it becomes a very collaborative exercise.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I originally studied English Literature at university before detouring into a career of advertising and marketing, then development work. Over 20 years writing has been a key part of my roles, and since 2012 I have focussed on writing and copyediting exclusively. It's what I love to do, and I believe I'm good at it.
