Leslie was such an outstanding choice for our wedding caterer, her food was amazing, textures were perfect, flavors complex and hearty! My husband and I were married at Live Well Farm in Harpswell, Maine Leslie and her team did an amazing job feeding 70 hungry guests with an array of appetizers and main course meals. Her roasted chicken was to die for and the seafood Alfredo was a huge hit. If you are planning a wedding or any special event, do yourself a favor and hire Leslie - your food will be five star amazing!

Such a feeling of relief now that I've enlisted Emica to take over my wedding planning! She was very friendly and easy to talk to and I feel confident that she will be a very capable planner with her wedding experience and her background in corporate training. She knew exactly how to manage the planning and sequencing of events leading up to and on the big day. She also has some great ideas to help us stretch our budget.

Kelly and her team are amazing! Kelly was there through every step of my wedding planning process. She was so wonderful with helping out with the vendors and making sure everyone and everything was where it needed to be. She was organized and always on schedule, which made my life a lot easier. Her design and decoration ideas were very creative and made my event feel extremely unique. I would definitely recommend her! Thank you, Kelly – I’ll definitely be calling you for my next event!

I had the pleasure of working at the Frog & Turtle (even though for a short period of time) I saw how Chef James truly took pride in his food. 3 years later I found myself planning my wedding and first stop was to Frog & Turtle to inquire about catering. Not only did they customize an amazing meal for my wedding they created an atmosphere we could never forget. Honestly the best food around and a man who is dedicated and committed to making his customers happy. You can trust that you will always have great outcome using Frog & Turtle as your caterer. Great food and great people. Thank you James, Meghan and your team for creating an amazing wedding for us.

I hired Dyer Designs and Events to handle my 25th wedding anniversary party for 50 people at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, Maine. The owner, Samantha Dyer was a pleasure to work with and handled every detail above and beyond my expectations. Her creativity, attention to detail , meeting deadlines, managing vendors, ability to be full service with printing placecards, tags for favors, etc , along with on-location services made my job very easy. Everyone raved about the party and I didn't have to worry about anything so I could enjoy the night. I was so pleased with Dyer Designs and Events I have hired Samantha Dyer to manage my family reunion on the coast of Maine in August. Donna West Palm, Florida

M.A.N.E Catering provide the food for a wedding I attended last summer. They did an amazing job. Everything I ate was delicious. My favorite was the sole stuffed with crab. The pasta salad was awesome to. The wait staff was professional, friendly and very accommodating. All in all it was a great experience. I would definitely use them for any of my catering needs and would recommend them to anyone else.

I am inspired by the bride and groom, who they are, their love, and what makes them unique. This is all sewn into the day for a truly intimate experience {whether its 40 or 300 guests}. The wedding and design is about each bride and groom, not what is the latest in the magazines or websites. That is great for ideas, but the real inspiration is from the heart and it always shows on the wedding day. The best weddings are the ones that feel REAL. Everyone is inspired by love.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How much does it cost for a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a full-time job — unless you hire a professional to handle the hard work for you. The cost for a wedding planner will depend on the level of service you desire. The least expensive wedding planner option is day-of coordination, then partial service, then full-service.

The national average cost for wedding planning is between $990 and $1,300. Costs are greatly affected by region, with rural or smaller-town wedding planners often far more affordable than planners in higher-cost cities. Here are some examples of the various levels of wedding planning and their potential average costs:

  • Day-of-wedding coordination: $800-$1,700. Day-of services can include the planner finalizing all details, creating a timeline, confirming vendors and overseeing all setup, day-of activities, and cleanup. The couple does all the front-end planning and contracts all the vendors. Time commitment could be about 15-25 hours, depending on pricing.
  • Partial service: $1,500-$3,800. Here the planner works with the couple from the beginning, helping contract vendors, creating a timeline, and overseeing all details of day-of execution. Time commitment could be about 30-60 hours, depending on package and pricing.
  • Full service: $3,500-$8,000 or more. Here the professional handles all wedding and planning details including working on design, securing rentals, getting the venue and vendors, and handling complete execution of the event. Time commitment could be 50-150 hours or more, depending on package and pricing.
  • Consulting: $50-$150 per hour for design, vendor, reception and other wedding planning consultation.
