Introduction: I have always loved dogs! I had a mostly trained mini dachshund named Willy for 15 years. We had done basic obedience training when he was a pup but never took it any further. When he passed away a few years ago I was so heartbroken I thought I wasn’t ready for a new dog so I thought I would Foster dogs in need. If you are really not ready for a new dog I don’t recommend starting to foster during this time. I think I would have adopted Cujo! Luckily for me my first foster a 50 pound lab mix named Tippy was a great dog! I only had him for 3 days before adopting him and couldn’t imagine my life without him. This is when I became involved with Rescue, Fostering and Training. I could see firsthand how important training is for a successful adoption. More dogs are euthanized every year due to behavior problems than for any other reason. This startling statistic shows that owners who do not train their dogs simply give up on them up out of frustration. Chewing, digging, urinating and defecating in the house, jumping up, nipping, all of these behaviors are solvable and manageable with good, consistent training. There are so many reasons for dogs to end up in a shelter or to be returned and training ups the odds of a Happy Forever home so much.
