My experience has far exceeded my expectations. I've been taking guitar lessons here for over a year and I could not be happier. Robert is a true professional. His lesson plan is well thought out and I feel like he tailored it just for me. He has an incredible knack of knowing what I can achieve week to week. He is a patient and knowledgeable teacher and truly a master of the instrument in any genre. For me, he has demystified making music. I can't believe the progress I have made. If you want a safe, clean environment to really learn and play music, I highly recommend Gallagher's Music.

Have had two bass lessons with John so far. He is a good teacher - very knowledgeable, good listener, and patient. He has a good way of helping learn technique as well as helping work on songs too. Highly recommend!

Our daughter loves the guitar again thanks to Alexander! He has a great teaching style. We used to push her to practice before, but now she picks up the guitar on her own and can't wait for her next lesson because of her instructor. Glad we found him!

Ivan is very talented as a musician although that doesn't always translate into a good teacher. With Ivan it translates very well!!! Kind, patient , and when you are with him YOU are the only one that matters!! If it wasn't for life throwing a couple curve balls, I would still be under his tutelage. Bass, piano, guitar. Ivan is an excellent teacher!!

Charlie has a wonderful laid-back personality. My son likes Charlie and never dreaded going to lessons. Also, Charlie is just really skilled on the guitar! I have no hesitation in recommending Charlie to anyone needing a great guitar teacher.

When I first went to James, I had a minimal experience with guitar playing. I only knew the basic notes and chords but not much else. The progress I made with James was amazing. I think what made his teaching style so effective was a perfect blend of teaching me the songs I wanted to learn while still taking time to teach me the fundamentals and methodology necessary to truly understand guitar playing. James really helped me become a better musician. Years later, I still refer back to his tips and lesson notes as a source of learning. He made such an impact on me that we still make it a point to keep in touch from half way across the country, even after all these years.

My 12-year-old daughter had been wanting a guitar for a while, so I got her one for her birthday. After a couple days of watching online videos about how to play, she seemed to lose interest. I guess it was too complicated, or boring, for her. I decided to try to find her a teacher, which is how Brian became my daughter’s guitar teacher. This has turned out to be the best decision. Brian’s teaching techniques are excellent. He knew right away how to keep my daughter interested in playing, without her getting bored. From the very beginning he started teaching her to play her favorite song. That made a big difference in my daughter’s motivation to practice. To my great surprise, she started to practice on her own at least one hour every day. Brian integrates guitar playing techniques (which can get boring) with playing songs, both at the same time. I think this is an excellent approach, especially for kids. My daughter now looks forward to every lesson. Communication with Brian is wonderful: he is never late, and if something does come up, he always notifies me well in advance. Lessons normally last 30 minutes, but if Brian sees that my daughter needs a little more time, he always stays longer to make sure that she understood everything in the lesson for that day. About

If your reading this chances are you are interested in learning to play guitar, which is fantastic! But beware, choosing the wrong teacher to study with will be detrimental to your progress as a musician. Many instructors tend to use a "responsive" teaching method, which will eventually bring you to a dead end in your progress. We find that using a "proactive" method pushes our students (which could be you!) to excel at a rapid pace. In order to achieve this we first find out what the student hopes to achieve as a guitar/bass player, and then create a structured lesson plan to help get them there. The goal here is to make you the best guitarist you can be, and to make sure you have a great time doing it!

He performs and composes with his jazz/fusion trio, Slice of Pi, which is currently recording a follow-up to their debut CD. He also performs with rock group Merge. Over the years, Ken has performed with a wide range of artists and bands. He has also been involved in studio recording projects and commercial music and has written guitar method books, addressing improvisation and theory for the guitar. Ken frequently hosts clinics, demonstrating technique and theory. He studied jazz and classical guitar at Wayne State University and theory and composition at Oakland University. Ken studied under acclaimed guitar legends Joe Fava and Paul Abler. Currently, Ken teaches theory and guitar instruction privately. About

I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010. I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from. As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals. The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!
