It was wonderful working with this company and Benito. I waited too long to have my yard and garden beds tended to and they were a mess. Benito came out and now my gardens look beautiful again. He is extremely affordable and is now hired on a monthly basis. YAY!!!

Great Service, owner Tom listened to what I wanted worked within my budget and had an affordable solution for my landscaping design. Prompt service, job completed the day after I hired them, would recommend them to anyone looking for professional company, respectful employees and most importantly affordable landscaping needs. Big or small jobs, they are equipped to handle both with ease. Left work site clean, something that you do not always get with contractors! Hire them again in a heartbeat!

First, and foremost, J&R did a fantastic job! They were fast, efficient, and very very helpful! We had asked about tree cutting services last summer, and never moved forward with the project because of our busy schedules and finances. J&R reached out to me on their own a few weeks ago asking if we still needed services. I unfortunately I am on a budget right now, and was worried I would have to keep putting the dead tree in my yard off. Jose worked with me to get the important parts of the job done, while working with my budget. It was so beyond perfect! They came out and went right to work! They were very organized and even helped organize the wood piles. My husband and I are so happy with the work they did!! We will be contacting them this spring for some more tree services!!

Samuel was extremely professional and held true to every aspect of our agreement. He even said after the job was complete that if I saw it needed anything within reason to just give him a call and he would come back and take care of it. I would and will refer Ambient Tree Services to all of my family and friends.

My lawn had old impact sprinkler heads that kept failing and lack of coverage that always left dead grass in certain areas. I first looked at expanding the existing system, but then determined it would be easier to install a new system. Project also involved new sod on the front lawn. I chose Sal because his price was right and he uses a soil boring machine, so the lawn doesn't look damaged. Lots of mature tree roots made the job difficult, and due to unforeseen underground concrete some sprinkler heads where not installed where planned. Sal didn't go the extra mile to get around or through the concrete. So most of the lawn has new heads in new locations, but one spot has new heads in same locations. Also, one spot that use to have heads doesn't anymore. The current plants in that spot don't need watering, but I still would have liked the option if the plants change. Overall water coverage is complete, but I was still a little disappointed that I didn't get a completely new looking system. Sal also kept his composure and professionalism when dealing with my outspoken tenant and neighbor. All in all, Sal did a fine job and this was a good experience.

Writing early because Thomas was exceptionally knowledgable, professional and polite! I expect his work will be beyond expectations and look forward to his crew coming out for lawn care and tree trimming. Thomas walked around the property and offered options for achieving goals in a safe and efficient manner. He knew the names of trees and plants instantly! His optimistic outlook for helping ancient trees regain vitality was infectious :) Again, looking forward to working with Thomas and his crews!

Needed areas of grass patched. Superior did a great job and even patched some additional areas they noticed were in trouble. Also trimmed some dead tree branches and added mulch to some existing landscaping. They were great and fast.

Words can't express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude. I had a huge amount of leaves at the curbside in the city of Grosse Pointe. It was 12/15/16, twelve degrees out and these dear ones braved the cold to assist in getting these leaves removed. I would have been fined from the City, and Vintage Landscapes came to my rescue. I called several landscaping and tree removal companies and no one could assist, because of the heavy snow and being past the leaf pick up season. They're wonderful & I'm so appreciative & thankful.

I was beyond satisfied with the work done by BSD! Very affordable prices. It cost me half of what it would've of been if I chose to go to the big landscaping companies. Anthony was on top of things and had answers to all my questions. They did great work fast and didn't leave any trace that they were there when they finished. Showed up on time and got done before expected. I will be going back to these young professionals every time! Thank you for the awesome work!

My lawn has never looked better! Ultimate Outdoor Service have been fast and reliable ever since the first contact on this site. My lawn looks beautiful and they clean everything up when they are done. I have had problems with another company not cleaning up the clippings when they cut my grass in the past, so it's nice to come home and not have a mess all over my driveway and sidewalk. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for affordable and great lawn service!

Hired BLB Landscape & Tree to trim several large trees. They came the same day I contacted them to quote the job. Once I approved the quote, they came the following day to trim the trees. They came in slightly lower than two other quotes. Cleaned up the lawn prior to leaving. Will hire them again for future projects. Very friendly to deal with.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
