Nicholas Martin and his crew did an excellent job painting my basement for a party I was to hold on short notice. The job was excellent and they also trimmed some of my closet doors for me so the carpet would not bind when the doors opened. They will be back to paint the rest of my house. Dr Rick Davis

Got back to me by far the quickest and worked my availability. Was available earlier and called to see if they could start ahead of time. Price was fairly competitive with other carpet cleaning companies. Excited to have them back to cleaning.

We were highly impressed with the results of the carpet cleaning services that we received from Royal Remediation. Kevin and his assistant arrived promptly and were very courteous and professional. They were able to get a couple of tough stains out of our carpet and left it looking refreshed and as new as the day we installed it. Their fabulous work was done at a very reasonable price. We couldn't be happier that we contracted with them. We highly recommended that you hire Royal Remediation for your carpet cleaning needs.

What an outstanding crew to get the carpet cleaning done as promised. I hired Grant Carpet Cleaning services for my entire house including basement. Cortny and her two brothers did divide and conquer approach to give a fresh look to my house within 2 hours. In fact upon my request she also cleaned extra rugs and mats without any questions. I must say upon my inspection when I found stains on the stairs, she did another round of cleaning for stairs, study and kids bedroom. After all cleaning was done, it felt as if we installed new carpet throughout the house. Thank you Cortny. All 5 Starts :)

The owner David was very prompt and handled the job in an expeditious manner. He started and finished he job within the parameters of the contract. My daughter had an awful smell in her basement from water damage and he was able to save most of the carpet and eliminate the smell. I would recommend his services to others.

After getting several quotes for carpet cleaning after a move out (rental home) we found Michigan Carpet to be comparable if not better than most. However, Don was extremely courteous and went above and beyond in the customer service department. Don was able to flex with our move schedule and the gentlemen he sent out to do the work was rite on time, very professional and actually finish early and still did a beautiful job. There were even a few pet marking that had previously gone unseen and Michigan Carpet was able to get them out no issues. We decided to call them a couple weeks later for a second home that was being turned over and we had the exact same fantastic service as the first time. In fact his unit had been cleaned by a large name company six months before and they didn't remove all of the soap residue so we ended up with nasty dirt trails throughout. Michigan Carpet was able to restore the carpet like new. It has been three months since our service and the carpets still look great! We will not hesitate to use Michigan Carpet, or refer them in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.

How much does it cost to clean an area rug?

Whether your pet had an accident, the party got too wild, or your kids can’t control their juice boxes — we all need rug cleaning from time to time. In fact, even if you don’t have a spill or spot, it’s wise to have your area rug cleaned approximately once a year to keep the rug fibers in good health. In general, rug cleaning prices depend on the square footage of the rug, what the rug is made of, whether any repairs are needed, and whether you require the pro to travel to your location or provide pickup and drop-off services. Nationally, average area rug cleaning prices range from $80 to $120.

Wool and silk area rugs typically cost more to clean than rugs made from synthetic fibers because the more delicate materials take more care and may require specialized cleaning fluids. For example, a synthetic rug may cost $1.50 per square foot to clean; a wool, cotton, or chiffon rug could be $2 per square foot; and a silk or Navajo wool rug could cost $3 per square foot. The two most common rug cleaning methods are steam and chemical cleaning. The costs for the two methods are often the same, although a steam-cleaned rug will take longer to dry due to the moisture. If your area rug needs odor removal, moth deterrent, or hand washing, there will be additional charges.
