We hired XXX Landscape & Lawncare to trim a large maple tree. The crew arrived at the appointed time and trimmed the tree exactly as agreed upon. Cleanup was very good and the price was fair. We will not hesitate to hire XXX for any future needs. L. Marriott

Mike was able to provide the services we needed in a timely manner. He was courteous and professional. He was only able to complete one of the two services we needed him for since the gate we chose wouldn't work for the area we got it for. He quoted us a price of 150.00 for both services and still charged 140.00 for the handrail alone. I thought the price a bit high since we provided most of the materials except a couple of screws and a small piece of wood. It is difficult to find handymen who will complete these smaller jobs and we needed the rail put up so it was worth the extra cost to us.

I had TNT WINDOWS give me a quote on. My front window. And the owner and myself set up the appointment time. He came by and tore the plastic I had concealing the drafts. And told me that I didn't NEED a brand New window. That he could fix my problem on site. I was elated not to have to fork out a lump sump of ? for something I didn't NEED. I really appreciated his honesty and integrity. To gain my trust and to have his company do more work. Based on professionalism.

Handyman Tom is efficient, detailed and a great guy to work with! He is a hard worker and will not be done until you are 100% satisfied. He added 220 sq feet of wood deck to our existing old deck. We were nervous you would be able to see where the two meet but he made it look flawless, so happy with the extra outdoor living space!

Hello Potential Customers! I was the one that wrote the too-hasty 1 star review the other day, and I wanted to make sure you were all updated on the excellent service that was provided to me afterwards from Tom. Here is my updated review: I would like to update my review from earlier... Tom emailed me back with a very nice apology and courteous explanation on the mix-up with my appointment. I am very thankful for his demeanor and quick response back. Tom is going to work with us on our window issues, as we understand the mistake and we are grateful of his composure in dealing w the bad review I left earlier. Believe it or not, we had another no-show by another window company at 4:30pm this same day, and when I emailed to inquire after 40 minutes, as I did with Tom's company, the other man told me he was on another job, and could come tomorrow. I replied "no thanks" and wrote my review of the situation, the same words that I left for Tom. But this man's rebuttal back to me was to banter negatively at me saying he didn't want the business of someone who didn't understand things come up, of which I replied that a mere courtesy call/text/email explaining the lateness or need to reschedule would have solved the issue. So we had bad luck overall w our windows that day. Tom and his company redeemed our day horrible window day! Tom came out to the house and provided much helpful information and assistance with our issues. I entirely apologize for jumping the gun for my previous 1 star review.

Dan's team is fantastic! We chose him, the lowest quote, to refinish the flooring in our new home. We wanted to support a new small business in the area and we're so glad we did! He made himself available to answer any of our questions and was able to let himself in and lock up afterwards, making it really easy for our busy schedule. After Dan finished sanding the floors, he was concerned we may not be happy with the floors finished naturally, as originally planned, because of the different types of wood. Rather than completing the job and moving along, he called us to confirm we would be happy with the end product. In the end, we were happy to go along with the original plan and the floors finished great! We also had a ~9 x 12 inch hole in the floor which was not disclosed to us by the sellers of the home. Dan's team was able to fix the subfloor and inter-disperse boards to fill in the hole in the flooring, fantastic job overall! We plan to recommend Dan and New Generation Hardwood Floor Service to all of our friends and family with need to get their floors refinished. Thanks for such a great job Dan and team!

Mr. Morris completed 4 jobs for me covering a three month period. 1) Involved rennovating my enclosed back porch by putting in a ceiling, removed/replaced surrounding screens & door, removed/repaired wood frames, installed electric wiring & put in a ceiling fan/light for first time, painting of woodframes, sealing bottom base bricks, and fixing gutters. Excellent job. 2) Installed gutters on garage for rain off, re-roofed garage & installed ventilation at top of roof. Well done! 3) Installed gutter brackets, repaired damage wood, repaired & fixed front house gutters for rain off. 4) Re-balancing of garage beams and adjusted tracks of garage door to prevent jamming or inconsistency of door opening or closing. All jobs were pre-appraised, with an estimate delivered within several days. Mr. Morris was very professional , detailed & courteous in explaining each job, cost, and timeframes. He exceeded all my expectations, in quality, timeliness, & proficiency, completing each job ahead of schedule. He cleaned up each area after completion of job very well. Partial monies paid up front and balance of bill not due until I did a walk thru & stated satisfaction of work done. I have told Mr. Morris that I will be retaining his phone number in my directory for future home repairs and have no concerns about referring him to my neighbors because of his professionalism and the quality of his work.

Expert Painting & Maintenance has provided us with superior service. They repaired a large section of drywall in our finished basement. You could not even tell that the wall had been repaired...seamless repair. They also painted the entire basement and ceiling. Several months later, we had them back out to paint the entire exterior of our home including wood repair and fixing trim. They did such a great job, we used them at our new home to paint 7 interior rooms and repair drywall in the master closet. Their crew is quick, clean, professional and does a high quality job. We highly recommend Expert Painting & Maintenance.

P & G Contracting recently did a basement remodel for us. We had done a lot of research on what we wanted, and had several proposals before going with Phil and his crew. He had built our deck last summer, and re-shingled our roof after the hail storm so we knew what his quality would be. Our basement was not a simple put up some 2x4s, drywall and a paint job. It required some extra imagination to re-route some plumbing, put in a multi-level stairwell, and improved our heating and cooling. We also converted our egress window into a sturdy brick and cement exit including a bilco door. Phil is very considerate to the work site, and treats it like it is his own house. We are very pleased.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
