Nick replaced a part in our Bosch dishwasher. The first person who came seemed puzzled by the Bosch, couldn't even get it our from under the countertop. We were considering the costs of removing tiles from the kitchen floor to allow the machine to slide out. We decided to pay another service charge to get "a second opinion." When Nick arrived, he pointed out two screws that were holding the dishwasher in place. Once those were removed, the dishwasher slid right out. Nick figured out what was wrong, ordered the part, installed it and voila! We got his card and will be hiring him to do some drywall repair in a couple of months. We highly recommend him.

Caulking in shower, replacing wood and weather stripping on garage, replaced weather stripping for front door, secured some loose tiles, filled a seam in my granite countertop, added some grout to backsplash, fixed closet doors so they could open and close smoothly. Tom did a great job on everything in a timely matter, very reasonable price, trust worthy, and very personable. We will definitely refer him out and will use him for other repairs!

Simply Floors was awesome in several areas. Michael was so kind and worked with us as to the styles and colors. He knew his flooring. Simply Floors was also good at working with us when our closing date had to change. The flooring crew was so respectful and kind. The negative side was that the flooring crew took three days to complete the job when we really needed it done no later than two. The flooring crew did try to make up by doing another area that wasn't scheduled with our leftover carpet. The flooring crew did work diligently when they were there, however they needed more people. I would say overall it was a good experience and would recommend them.

I run a small business and it's been great to meet another person who just shows up on time and gets thing's done without bs. I've been working with Charlie for over a year on a huge variety of projects and he's been very helpful and knowledgeable with all of them. He has done plumbing, hvac, painting, glass & ceramic tile back splashes for me and I will 100% be using him again in the near future. Thanks again Mr. Moon.

Tom did a great job laying brick veneer on a wall in our kitchen. He was very knowledgeable and thorough with his work and it looks great. He also removed some tile on our fireplace hearth and restored the limestone that was underneath. He rock faced it and patched some dry wall where an extension was removed. He communicated well through call/text and was upfront about everything.

Did a good job on tiling the backsplash of our kitchen. On a location above our oven the tiles weren't as flat as we would have liked when you rub your hand over them, but for the most part, it all looked great. Also left the site a bit messy at the end of the day. All that being said, I would definitely hire Dino again for other tile jobs around our home. Communicated everything very well to me to understand what would be happening and he even went out of his way to pick up the tile we purchased from the shop before coming to our house the first day. Seemed like an authentic guy you can trust which is a great quality.

I hired Jam Restoration to replace plumbing fixtures, a vanity and install a shower stall, etc. in a rental property that I own. David was prompt in his response and his quote was reasonably priced. After work began he agreed to add a couple more items I requested (an additional toilet replacement and new flooring.) The additional work was reasonably priced as well. He began the work when he said he would and it was completed in a timely manner. When I mentioned one item that needed a minor tweak, he came out and addressed it. Overall I'm pleased with how things turned out including the tile work around the shower stall, as well as the toilet and vanity recommendations. I will consider Jam Restoration for future work. Thanks.

Will and his workers did an excellent job without significant delays or cost overruns. This was a trustworthy crew. They were meticulous in cleaning up and I commend Will on his excellent public relations expertise. Their costs were very reasonable. My bathroom renovation looks great! I am especially pleased with the laying of marble tile in bath and counters. Surface is flush, corners and edges are done well, and the pattern of marble is carefully planned.

Granite Squared did ceramic tyle in my landing that looks like wood planks, granite counter tops in my bathroom and kitchen and the glass tile backsplash in my kitchen. I was worried about having a seam in my granite counter but Nick did a great job with the seam and you have to really look hard to find the seam.

As was popular many years ago, we had a powder room that was carpeted, and a master bath floor that was half carpet/half old, slippery, shiny tile. Not desirable today! We hired Mike to remove all carpeting and existing old shiny floor tile, and then redo the floors with new tile. We had him work on both projects during the same time frame. The results can be seen in the photos below. Both rooms now have an updated, clean look that we love. My husband and I both found Mike very easy to work with. We communicated often from the initial estimate all the way to project completion. For example, he will pick up materials for you, or let you know what materials are needed and you can gather them yourself. He will listen to your ideas for tile layout, grout colors, whatever...and also offer some ideas of his own. He communicates every step of the way. The point here is he wants the project to be as you envisioned, and for you to love it at completion. We do! We would happily recommend him.

Ryan came into a bathroom project that was already started by someone else, incorrectly. He was able to fix the issues that he did not create and left us with a beautiful product! He also installed a kitchen backsplash for us that turned out great! We enjoyed working with Ryan and hope to be able to work with him again in the future!

Steve and his crew did an excellent job remodeling 2 of my bathrooms. The work included: Major demolition of bathroom floor tile/shower tile and installation of new wall/floor tile and vanity. Steve was a pleasure to work with and was very responsive to any request I had. Steve pays close attention to detail and did exactly what we agreed to. The quality was excellent and the prices very reasonable. I would highly recommend Steve.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
