Beyond impressed - I've tried thinking of different ways to write this review that would truly represent how impressed we were with Dan and the quality of work he did for us - there just aren't words to to do him justice. Planning a wedding can be stressful. Finding the right vendors is even more stressful - you are putting your trust and confidence into someone you don't know, hoping that they capture your special day in all its glory...because really they only have 1 shot to get it - Well, Dan was by far the best decision we made! He exceeded our expectations. He has a gift - a real talent in what he does. He listened to what we wanted and with his vision, impressive talent and skill he created the most beautiful, amazing video of our wedding. He gave us the best gift and that is something for us to treasure forever. He captured not just the day, but the moments, the love, the emotions and the happiness and made a video highlighting the best day of our lives. I cried as much watching the videos as I did the day we got married - it brought me back to that day and I felt all those "feels" all over again. We highly recommend Dan - He stepped up and really owned that day for us - he was attentive and made sure that not just the bride and groom, but the entire wedding party was taken care of; if we needed anything, drinks etc. - all while filming and doing his thing. He is the person you want on a day you want to remember for always. Thank you Dan for everything you've done for us - We wish you nothing but the absolute best!

Our budget precluded us from traveling out-of-state to shoot on location so I hired Craig Films. My client was on the set so I needed someone that I could trust to deliver skill, speed, direction, and good old fashioned friendliness. Craig Films exceeded everyone's expectations on a very tight deadline. I couldn't have chosen a better production company to make me look good.

Rodney filmed our wedding on 11/19/16 and did an amazing job! We hired him last minute and it is a decision we are so incredibly happy we made. In under a week, he had our highlight video done. He went wayyyy above and beyond our expectations. Now we can relive our wedding over and over again through the years through Rodney's amazing video! Not only was his photography skills amazing, he Rodney also has a great personality and is so easy to get along with... which is so very important when looking for someone who will be filming you for 8+ hours on your special day. I met Rodney for the first time on the day of our wedding and immediately felt like he was someone familiar to me. We 100% recommend him to anyone needing a videographer!

Bill and Trevay were a pleasure to work with! Both are very friendly, personable, and professional. We hired them to videotape our wedding ceremony and reception. Bill took the time to get to know about us and our wedding and the communication about the expectations of the videography was very open, so there were no surprises for us or for them. He visited the venue in advance of our wedding day and also (along with Trevay) attended the rehearsal, which was much appreciated. We were impressed that they wanted to get as much advance information on location, lighting, etc. as possible, and it was helpful to us as well. The filming on the wedding day was comprehensive but non-intrusive to us or to our guests, which was also greatly appreciated. The finished video is in the process of being produced, but I have every confidence that we will be thrilled with the finished dvd of our special day. Should we find ourselves in need of videography services in the future we would not hesitate to contact Bill and Trevay again – in addition to being talented and professional, they’re both just really nice people.

Qvision worked with us to develop a plan for a video to capture a complex community development process. Quenton gave great advice as we prepared in advance, he and his team were professional and efficient during the filming, and he produced a great first cut that really helped us see what the piece could accomplish. As a first effort for our organization, we asked for a lot in terms of edits, adding new content and data, and more. Quenton was responsive to these requests and our company benefited from the process and from having the video on our website. I would highly recommend Qvision to another nonprofit or public sector group. The process will go well and the product is amazingly professional.

Andrea recently filmed my wedding. She was very easy going and was very professional. The guests at my wedding even commented on nice she was. I haven't got my video yet but based on some of the summaries she sent me I'm very confident that it will be great. She was fun and very friendly. I had an issue with the photo booth, from another comoany, and they didn't have a back up camera. Well Andrea was kind enough to let them try her camera that she had with her. Unfortunately it didn't work but it was the fact that she wanted everything to go perfect for us and she tried when she didn't have too. I cannot say enough about how pleased we are that we choose her. Thank you very much Andrea, you were great and we will definitely recommend you to someone else. Thanks again.

We hired Jay to do the video for our daughter's outdoor wedding. He consulted with me prior to the event to clarify what we were looking for and to discuss details of the filming. He arrived early the day of the wedding to set up equipment well before the start of the ceremony. The cameras were not obtrusive at all. The final video turned out beautifully. It truly captured the sentiment of the wedding. We were extremely pleased with the service Jay provided and would highly recommend him to others.

Josh was truly a blessing to work with. He is very experienced in video production--it shows in his filming on location and in his post-production work. Josh was great at reading us during production; when we weren't sure about a take, he was quick to respond and was flexible with retakes and changes. He's a great communicator-- before, during and after the shoot. Josh added a special touch of creative expertise to our ideas and he has a pleasant and helpful demeanor. Every one in our company was extremely pleased with the final video. Monkey Shavers is very highly recommended, you can't get a better guy than Josh to work with.

We've used Paul Taylor Films to make fantastic videos of our youth summer internship program for our non-profit, The Youth Connection. Mr. Taylor's professionalism and feedback on the overall production of our videos and what we should put in the videos was invaluable. Our funders LOVED the videos we produced with Mr. Taylor's help and we're looking forward to working with him again. If you are looking for complete video services (from shooting the video to post-production) we can't recommend Paul Taylor Films enough.

Matt is a very energetic guy who is very organized and punctual and on time. I wanted to teach my siblings filmmaking which is not something that filmmakers do usually Matt was humble and kind enough to accept my offer. He told me that he will email me a lesson plan in two days I wasn’t sure that he will do so in two days as the job I asked for is time consuming and is not something profitable but he did email me a fantastic lesson plan I liked it and accepted it and then Matt showed up on time for the lesson and taught them and they enjoyed the learning process.

Paul was wonderful to work with. A true professional, prompt, accomodating on short notice. Good listener! Excellent artistic vision. He did a short outside video for me for a presentation. Very satisfied especially with the quality, and how he pulled it all together and made it easy for this newbie.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
