Hiring Trilogy Band to play at our daughter's wedding was the best decision we made. They were very energetic and engaged our guests throughout the reception. They are a talented and friendly group of musicians. Our guests told us they ended up staying much longer than they thought they would because they were having so much fun! They also offer an emcee and dj coverage when on break. The bridal couple were thrilled that the music they wanted played was available. Very extensive music options. The additional cost for live music of this quality was definitely a great value.

We had our Christmas Party at Big Rock Chop House in Birmingham and DJ James was great. He played some nice holiday music during cocktail hour, during dinner he played nice dinner music and as the evening went on it was more dance music. We loved it, had a great time and enjoyed the playlist! would definitely have him again for any party.

Robert taught me from the ground up. My knowledge was very limited before I met Robert. He taught me many classic songs that created a great music theory instinct and appreciation for the greats of the past. Without Roberts teaching I would have never enjoyed the great years I spend playing in a rock band. The gift his teaching gave me will be a part of my life for good.

My husband and I hired White Pines Entertainment to play a string duo for our outdoor wedding ceremony. They were above and beyond fantastic. They really set the tone for our ceremony and left a huge impression on our guests - everyone loved them and raved about them all evening! They were extremely easy to communicate with, knew exactly what we we were needed for our event, and even recommended a local band to play during our reception that matched the sound we wanted. They worked with us on all of our requests and were very professional. Most importantly, they are extremely skilled musicians that really know what they are doing. Beyond their impeccable sound, they completely took care of themselves during our event. They understand that brides and grooms are busy on their wedding day and were self-sufficient in setting up, communicating with our officiant to coordinate cues, and packing up. They kept everything running smoothly and were incredibly stress-free. I highly recommend this professional, talented and friendly company. We would hire them again in a heartbeat!

I've worked with Daniel for about 6 years now in theatrical music. You won't find someone else who is as focused, driven and passionate about his work. Daniel can also play different types of music from Mozart to Rock n'Roll. My expectations are high and Daniel exceeds them every time 100%. Thank you Daniel for your hard work and can't wait for the next project!

Jonathan played for my wedding which was in my parents' home, streamed live over the internet. He played my parents' piano during the ceremony and then switched to playing guitar during our dinner. Having both those talents was wonderful. He brought a play list, and followed the script we gave him on when to play and when to pause - very attentive. Jonathan was on-time, played well - loud enough to appreciate but not so loud as to drown out our conversation. He was very quiet - which to me is neither good nor bad. :-) We would hire him again. My mother kept asking me where I found him. Thanks Thumbtack and Jonathan!

Jarrod was an absolute pleasure to work with! He played music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and entire reception! He did not need any direction during our Big Day, he is a true professional and knew exactly where to be and what to play! Jarrod put together a jazz quartet for reception and it was absolutely perfect! They played great music and all or our guests raved about it! Whether you are looking for background cocktail music, or getting people onto the dance floor, you will not be dissappointed. We wanted jazz, New Orleans style blues/jazz and that's exactly what we got! I still have several of the songs he played stuck in my head! If you are looking for a jazz musician to play fun upbeat music for your event - this is it! Thank you Jarrod!

One of the best experiences of my life has been working with Erik Blundell. He is a great, patient, enthusiastic teacher who has pushed me to become a better guitarist every day. He has a vast knowledge of many genres and music theory. This has helped in many areas from improvisation to reading music. Because he involved in a few bands, musical groups and the American Guild of Music, he provides students with an outlet to display what they have learned and gain real world playing experience. Along with being an excellent teacher, he is also a really great, likable guy.

Working with Devin in the studio and on stage is always a great time. I played on stage with him for many years in a rock band and he definitely brought some amazing flavor to every song. In the studio he is the exact same way. He is always dead focused on the project at hand and always able to work with whatever ideas you have while not straying too far from the central theme. He provides valuable insight for improving a particular piece both structurally as well as dynamically. Writing original music is his strong suit and he is well versed in multiple styles and genres due to his wide range of influences. I would definitely recommend Devin for your next studio session!

Our yearly corporate end of the year employee’s dinner event at American Airlines was made more enjoyable because of The Darron Moore and The 14th Floor Band. This band had our guest on the dance floor all night long. The band covered a wide range of music such as Motown and R&B. The real surprise was their awesome awesome awesome tribute show called The Luther Vandross Experience. A tribute to the late Luther Vandross. It was Very, very, very classy and clever. Darron Moore and The 14th Floor was one of the best-dressed bands we ever hired and the music was just fantastic. I do highly recommend this dynamic band. Larry Wright - Event Coordinator

Steve is a top notch musician that has a Masters in Music. He has taught my son blues guitar, produced on recording sessions with my niece, Chey Hall, and plays great blues, jazz, and classical guitar himself. He had done wonders with the Jazz ensemble at the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra, and does great work with his band.

I was really happy to see Tom start teaching on Thumbtack. As one of his former music teachers at the Detroit School of Rock and Pop, I have gotten to know and respect his musicianship over the years. He's a first-rate guitarist, vocalist and drummer, as well as one of the best up-and-coming music producers in Detroit. The thing that always struck me about Tom was his willingness to help others. I'm proud to have worked with him, and if you're lucky enough to have him as a teacher I'm sure you'll feel the same.

Jeff and Kerri of Stiletto Fire are AMAZING! They are incredibly talented singers, muscians and great performers. They kept the energy alive at my husband's surprise 50th birthday and went so far as to learn a new song for the Havana theme. We weren't able to keep my husband off the dance floor and did I mention that he never dances?! It was so fun! Everyone at the party kept asking how I found such a great band. I have to thank Thumbtack for that and Jeff was an absolute pleasure to work with. Thank you Jeff and Kerri for making my husband's 50th unforgettable!

Hi, I am Carol Collins, music director for Thurston Community Players. Doug has coordinated the band and played the keyboard and sax for our musical the last 4 years. The band is quite talented and well received. They adjusted tempos, rhythm and volume as needed to work with the actors. I would highly recommend them for any gig.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
