Amy will work with you to customize the decor to the theme you want in the time you want. We had her create a balloon arch with center pieces for my daughter's birthday party with a Peppa Pig theme and the results were fabulous. We and the guests loved the setup.

When it comes to conference or event decorations Leave it to Meeka is our go-to supplier. We have used Leave it to Meeka two years in a row and have thoroughly enjoyed the professionalism and creativity Meeka brings to each event. Not only does she make the planning process painless, she also provides professional input and recommendations to make sure our event meets our needs within our budget. I would definitely recommend Meeka to anyone looking for a decorator for any type of event. She has done decorations for our large conference sessions, that included formal award dinners and banquets. She is very customer focused and always wants to make sure that the décor is exactly what we are looking for. We continue to be impressed by her work and plan to use her services in the future!

They did an awesome job decorating for my mothers birthday dinner. It was a last minute decision to have someone come and decorate for this occasion. Even though it was last minute, they did and awesome job and kept in constant communication with me. Very professional and the decorations were great! I will definitely use them again.

Spectacular Events Galore(Dionna) did event planning and event decoration(Princess-Cinderella theme) for my daughter's 1st Birthday. I would recommend Dionna in a heart beat. The event took place at Charlar Place in Holt, Mi with around 70 people. This was not an easy task to sat the least! Dionna took care of each and every thing for the event and was very detail in presenting her work. She was not the person who just comes on the event day to arrange things. She met us 4 times even before the event day to plan and arrange things for us. She welcomed all our inputs and suggested in very detail to make the event very successful. Her network around the town was amazing, which made us to order all our necessities through her with out going to another vendor. The cost of the services provided was so reasonable and the discounts with her vendors were not even comparable if we were in open market. She was there at the event all day, helping us to take care of our guests. She even served the cake for the guests and which was very sweet of her. No doubt that we had an excellent service from Dionna and the party would not be better with out Dionna. We enjoyed a lot. Thank you Dionna and Spectacular Events Galore for wonderful service.

JC Enterprises did a thoroughly great job at my daughter's wedding reception. The overall experience was wonderful. I had certain expectations prior to the event. I can truly say that those expectations were met and surpassed by the elegant and exquisite decor, programming and arrangement. I would like to take this time to express my whole-hearted gratitude and thanks. I would recommend JC Enterprises to anyone looking for services of this genre.

I can't say enough good things about the two of them -- personable, accommodating and reasonable with pricing. I've worked with them on 4 rooms so far and have never been disappointed. They truly are design experts and tailor their decorating to the customer's style. They are respectful of the client's time and budgetary needs. People look at my rooms and say they belong in a magazine. I give them the highest recommendation possible. If you want a room that looks like it belongs on a TV show, then hire them!!!!

Cameo planned my mothers retirement party. I gave her a general idea of how I wanted the celebration to go and a budget. She facilitated in making it a very lovely experience. It was outside in a large empty space. She and her crew completely transformed the space. The decor was magnificent, vibrant and felt warm. The band, lovely... She was very organized, timely and professional. The caterer/menu did a great job. Overall, I was completely satisfied and will certainly utilize services from What'll She Think of Next and I'd recommend her services to anyone who needs an event planner.

Kristi of Frederick Sterling Interiors did a great job on my projects. She had some good ideas to brighten up my living room and office and stayed within my budget to boot!! As a male homeowner, I was happy that the rooms didn't look too feminine but they definitely looked cozy, warm and professionally done. I would recommend her if you are looking for help on any interior decorating projects.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
