The owner of Kalamazoo Home Services responded to my request very quickly. He arrived on time, was very friendly and professional. He trimmed my bushes and hauled away my accumulated brush pile for me. Very fair prices. I will be contacting him for gutter cleaning soon!

well-done, efficient, comprehensive cleaning products used seemed effective but did not have that heavy chemical smell so was not irritating to breathe while Isaac and Ruth did the whole house cleaning

Honest, reasonable, expedient and meticulous! Kandi was quick to respond to our project request on Thumbtack and provided a rough estimate including her hourly rate based on our homes description prior to even seeing our home. We found this very refreshing in comparison to the dozens of other cleaning services we have hired and dismissed over the past years. She met with us at our home shortly after contacting her and she refined her estimate (actually lower) given the detailed approach to cleaning she outlined as her standard. She was honest in telling us that we are so clean ourselves, that we probably only need her services bi-weekly… something no other service has ever suggested (most would come weekly even if they did not need to or increase the price given it was a bi-weekly job.) Out of the gate, she won us over with her honesty and the detailed approach to cleaning she described. Today was the first day of cleaning and we are thrilled! We are very particular, some would say OCD, about what we consider clean and have hired and canceled numerous services over the years for not being as throughout as we are when we clean ourselves. The house is cleaner than when we clean it ourselves! Kandi more than exceeded our expectations and she is just getting started! Also, after talking with her for some time, we are convinced that not only is she honest, hardworking, and extremely meticulous but also a genuinely kind human being. She is the real deal and true to her word. After only one cleaning we already know we would recommend her to anyone. She was so reasonable we actually paid her more than she requested (well deserved) and we are considering having her come weekly if it fits into her schedule.

My family is moving into a house this week. It is one we remodeled, and there was construction dust everywhere. We decided to hie someone to clean. Ginger was good on the phone and showed up promptly. The work in the kitchen and laundry room was excellent. She also did a good job on the windows, even vacuuming the window sills without being asked. On further inspection, I wish the fans in the house would have been a bit cleaner. I have no doubt if I had mentioned that to Ginger while she was still in the house that she would have taken care of it. I just didn't notice it until after she left.

We hired Michelle and her team to deep clean our new house, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the outstanding job they did. There's nothing they overlooked or did a fair job on -- even the master bath which was covered with years of soap scum. Now, it looks virtually like a brand new shower. We will be hiring Lakeshore Interiors for our permanent house cleaning service. I have no reason to shop around.

Beene Concrete Construction LLC was hired by me to do a small porch patch job and a very small ceramic tile replacement job in my main bathroom of my 58 year old home. David arrived on time, with all the tools and supplies he needed. He cleaned up as he went, left both area spotless and wore contractor booties in my home while working on the bathroom. He encountered a poor structural area behind the tile he replaced and worked expertly to fill this void before adhering the new pieced of tile. He was able to tackle a new job for me on the same day even though we had not planned it. He added a new step off the side of my concrete porch. He worked all day until the job was completed, which took much longer than expected due to rain, and again cleaned up wonderfully. Not a spot of left-over concrete was left for me to sweep up and dispose of. He was very professional and friendly the entire day. All three items he did for me are of the best quality. The new step looks terrific and adds so much value to my back door. I would highly recommend him for concrete work and other handy man jobs around the house.

Jessica was great about coordinating with my friend who I purchased six hours of house cleaning for. She came two times and did a deep clean of the kitchen with the first visit and the second visit did an overall clean of the house. My friend was so happy with her work. She is considering having her come in the future for other cleanings.

D's Quality Cleaning Service is very professional and trustworthy. We have them come in after business hours and the office is noticeably shipshape the next morning. D's Quality is a much smaller cleaning company than I've worked with in the past, but I think that's what make them so great. They are far more attentive and personable than I hoped. I'd recommend D's to anyone.

"Consider me a new and forever satisfied client of Kleen Bathrooms. The cleaning team was efficient and communicated clearly about the appointment. They brought all necessary equipment and supplies with them, as well as an attitude of pride in their service. I had become accustomed and tolerant of some long-present grime in corners and seams, and the need to have an air freshener to make my bathroom smell clean. The Kleen-team got the grime and replaced freshened air with true clean fresh air. I highly recommend Kleen Bathrooms

Connie, made my first cleaning service experience one to remember. She has definitely set the bar high. My husband, and I are business owners who dont get to spend much time home, and wanted to find a way to spend more time together when home as opposed to catching up on chores. We were recommended Connie from a gal at our church almost a year ago, and she has been with us ever since. She is phenomenal! Most importantly she is very flexible, and reliable which fits perfect for our crazy, and busy life. My house looks so much better and I feel as though a weight has been lifted! I Highly recommended her!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.
