Not only did he do the job exactly as I wanted but he did it immediately. No scheduling me weeks out. He looked at it, listened to how I wanted it, went out and got the material and came right back and did the job. And his workmanship was excellent. I'd recommend him to anyone. Color me happy. He's also interesting to talk to.

Stacy painted a large painting for our living room. She was fantastic in listening to our ideas and tastes when it came to colours and design! When she had captured everything we felt, she went off and painted using her own artistic flair! We are extremely happy with the result and feel that her painting has added wonderful warmth and aesthetics to our home. We strongly recommend her!

I think outside of the box. A lot of my design work is something a person has never seen before. I am also a hands on guy. I self perform a lot of the construction and design on the fly. Architecture is an art and I am a natural artist.

From the very start, Dana of Room Candy has been quick to respond, accommodating, willing to work within a budget and phase planning and she is very pleasant to work with. Her rate was higher than other designers, but as I have learned over time, you get what you pay for. The best part is that if you purchase products from Room Candy, they waive the design fee. Why shop any other way. I am super excited to continue my home make over with Room Candy!!!

In the 20 some years of lighting design, I have come to understand the immense power of light and have studied the properties, the technical data, went to Lightfair and Light+Building in Germany to keep up with the "now" and "future" advancements of lighting applications. Whether it's an office building, a public space or a residence, I know that thoughtful, skilled lighting design is essential to creating a profound user experience. I use my understanding of light to transform spaces that will bring to life the vision of the architect, interior designer and/or building owner. My passion for lighting design doesn't stop at the aesthetics of the space, but also leans towards a very energy conscience, sustainable lighting solution. I also try to stress competition on my projects, finding two or three manufacturers to compete on lighting fixtures, or provide the budgeting service to compare different (but successful) lighting design solutions. Open my website to see many examples of great spaces lit to meet the visions of various design teams.

We at D.I.D have a background in not only the design, but also the building products. We understand what needs to be focused on early in the project to create not only successful end products, but also a successful (and cost saving) manufacturing process. We love getting to help our customers achieve success through innovative solutions and cutting edge ideas....also we like having our design kick off meetings at a pub.

About

I feel that my work stands out from others because of my vast knowledge and experience in the construction industry. When I am drafting an architectural project, I have a keen eye to aspects that may not work well and I have solutions that usually meet the customes needs and makes the construction of the project run smoother, and sometimes even cheaper than the alternative. I am dedicated and very dependable, I take great pride in my work and truly enjoy the satisfaction of drafting a project and realizing the finish product when it is complete. I really enjoy drafting, whether it be architectural drafting or mechanical type drafting for a manufactured part because of the creative outlet it presents. It is very rewarding to collect a customers thoughts and ideas and make them into a 2D or even a 3D drawing. It is rewarding to beable to create things that someone will depend on to be of good quality and long lasting. The troubleshooting and problem solving that sometimes comes with drafting can sometimes be challenging and being able to work through those issues and create a great product is really what I like about the job. Providing the customer with a drawing I can be proud of and that they will be proud to call their is very satisfing.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
