Introduction: Hi! I'm Carrie, Owner of The Dog Thinks What? People often ask me, "Does that mean you can read my dog's mind?" As much as I wish that were the case, no it doesn't. What it does mean is that I can give you insight into why your dog is doing all those behaviors that you are unhappy with like not listening to you, jumping on you or your friends and family, barking at everything and not quieting down when you ask, chewing up everything except the toys you bought, pulling you all over the place when you try to go for a walk, running out the door, running away and countless other behaviors that people like you contact me about. Why is this insight important? Because it defines the root of the problem. All those behaviors are symptoms of the root problem and to create long lasting results, it is imperative to know why those behaviors are happening. Think about it like an illness. You could have a sniffling nose, sore throat and sinus pressure. There are different illnesses that these symptoms can be attributed to such as allergies, or a common cold. Wouldn't you agree that it is important to know if you have a cold or seasonal allergies? See with behavior it is the same. Jumping, barking and chewing are all symptoms of a root problem. Maybe that problem is over excitement, maybe it is frustration, maybe it is a genetic disposition, maybe it is dominance, maybe it is insecurity. Once we figure out what the problem is then we can work towards a treatment for that issue. The Dog Thinks What? uses a behavioral approach to dog training. There are many types of training out there and many different trainers to choose from, what I have done is drawn the best aspects of each training style and incorporated them into a simple program that can get results for even the most novice of dog owners. The foundation of that training is clear communication and leadership. Getting the dynamic of the relationship right is just as important as finding out the root of the problem. Turns out, sometimes the relationship itself is part of the problem, which is why I have made educating the human part of my training program! Your dog will be living with you for its entire life, so to make training the most successful, it is absolutely necessary for you to learn how to interact with your dog in a way that creates respect and builds a strong and lasting bond!
