I had the fortunate luck of meeting Chris after trying to find a contractor I felt comfortable with for some time. I've had him do a handful of jobs on my home and I couldn't be happier with his level of work, attention to detail, willingness to do the job right, and overall knowledge of his trade. To date I've had this contractor repair soffit/fascia, replace a chimney above the roofline, and a few other odds and ends as well. All of his work is top notch, and you would be doing yourself a favor by having CCN Company do any kind of work that needs to be done on your home. It's hard to find a contractor with a combination of a good mindset and ability these days. Knowing that whatever job you are paying to have done is being done professionally with a high attention to detail is a great feeling. Thank you CCNCO for all the fabulous work!

I have had Kevin help me with multiple construction and contracting projects over the years. Some of the work encompassed a fully built shed, window and door installations, insulation and venting work, roofing, demolition, grading and concrete work, heating and cooling projects, and even plumbing. He has been readily available when emergencies arise, such as a leaky chimney in a new house I recently purchased. The kind of attention to detail you will get from Kevin is rare in this business today. I have watched him spend a lot of extra time on a screen door that didn't shut completely perfect after an installation. He wouldn't give up until it was proper. He will not cut corners and make sure that the job is done to perfection. The difference you will get is quality and follow up. From quotes, through the project, and up until the finished result, Kevin is present. I have never been disappointed in anything Kevin has done for us, and have recommended him to do work for my family and friends.

Great Lakes Construction did an excellent job on multiple projects on our home, we love the fact that you get what you pay for and they are great products and work quality for the money. Their reps are top notch honest people that are looking out for the customer in every aspect of the project. The reps really make this a fun experience for the customer in something that mostly is scary, but since doing business with them, we actually look forward each and every time until our next project. We are absolutely going to be using them again in the future. - Happy Customers

We wanted to add a skylight to our roof, letting in more natural light. Ryan with Weather Vane Roofing came out to give us a free estimate. He was very professional, polite, explained in detail everything that needed to be done, and gave us a very fair price. We expressed our urgency to him for completing the job and he was able to come out two days later to start and finish the job. We are extremely pleased with the work he did for us, the price we got, and the professionalism of Ryan. We highly recommend Weather Vane Roofing for any roofing job you may have. Thank you again Ryan!

Light of day construction is extremely professional and focused on quality! I had 6 roofing companies give quotes and by far John was the most responsive, honest, upfront, and gave the highest quote value. John quoted us for a higher grade shingle for same price as the other quotes entry grade shingles. We went with John because he would give us what we wanted (i.e. no sales pitches) and he would ensure quality. John works right next to his roofers which ensures they do the job right! It was impressive to see John and his team work as they were so professional and focused on quality. They took extra time around skylights and vents ensuring there would be no leaks, I highly doubt the other companies would have spent those few extra minutes. An example of value - John had to replace all decking on our roof which was around $2900 whereas the other companies would have been $3400-4000! I have NO anxiety about our roof leaking, value we recieved, or craftsmanship-quality. We highly recommend Light of day construction for any projects!

Our roof was damaged in the last windstorm. Jason came out to quote the job the same day I put the request in. He completed the work two days later. Jason and his crew did a great job. I have already referred McBain Construction to my neighbor for his roof repairs and will not hesitate to refer them to others.

I can't say enough good things about Foust Contracting. When I first contacted them about an estimate, Brandt was out here the very next day. His knowledge and expertise on roofing, along with a very competitive rate, convinced me that his company was exactly what I was looking for. Brandt and his men were very professional and take great pride in their workmanship. I now have the best looking roof on the block and the quality is exceptional.

My name is a Alicia. Me and my husband hired Southern Charm Construction to replace our roof after a grueling search amongst contractors and many estimates we decided to go with SCC. Their sales rep was very knowledgeable and explained what a roof needs and what it takes to maintain.. From the moment of the initial consultation over the phone to the visit from the rep to the installation to the finished product we are so very pleased to have had Southern charm apart of this experience with us.. Thank you so much for the professionalism and the painlessness of the entire project. We will only be having work done by SCC in the future and will be refering as many people as possible. Again thank you so much...

We HIGHLY recommend this company! Kris at Weather Vane Roofing gave us three cost options as to how we wanted to proceed in fixing our roof; obviously they weren't just trying to make money off us. We decided on doing half our roof now and will definitely call them to come back to do the other side. The cleanup guys were friendly and did a great job! You wouldn't have even known they were there.

Gene and his crew did a fantastic job of coming in and quickly putting on a new roof on my house. He was upfront about the job, right on task with the costs, and extremely timely - finishing up a day ahead of time. What surprised me the most was their attention to detail and keeping my property clean and picked up! I was thrilled and will definitely use them again! Wm. O'Dell - Mt. Pleasant, MI

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
