Cale has a great work ethic! He is punctual, knowledgeable, and does a high quality job. When he came for a quote, I had to leave him alone in the house to chase my dog, and found him to be very trustworthy and ethical. Cale changed the housing on a two story chandelier for us. While the job was not necessarily difficult, the situation was - we didn't want to take down the chandelier and many companies either wouldn't send someone out to a house call or the electrician wouldn't do a repair on site with the two story situation. They wouldn't do this because it's not really something they'd make a lot of money on. Cale was more interested in creating a loyal customer on this transaction than on the profit, which is a smart long-term view for any business. He succeeded! We will call him with any/all future electrical needs!

Job got done, but beware. The owner of this company will jack up cost of material and grossly "round up" on the amount of time they spend on site. Servicing a residential environment -- they were very disrespectful to my home. Let me provide my experience: 1) Arrived to home at 1:15 pm; by 3:15 pm they were packed up and writing the invoice. I was charged for 5 hours (2 men times 2 1/2 hours). Took owner about 15 minutes to produce invoice. 2) Charge me $30 for a fan box -- used to mount a standard 13 inch flush mount ceiling light. A bit overkill for the project, but in the event someone wanted to hang a larger/heavier light, they would be all set. Issue is that this material ranges from $8 to $15 at Home Depot. 3) Charge $75 for each man. However, only one of the two men seemed to do anything other than hold fixtures. I had them install one ceiling connection/cable and three (3) light figures. I would have expected that each many could have been installing a fixture, to reduce the amount of billable hours. In regard to being disrespectful to my home, this includes: 1) Owner not taking boots off when entered homed, and left muddy shoe prints all over the off white carpeting in my hallway. 2) Used my vacuum cleaning to clean up dirt/dust created by job, but failed to put vacuum back where the got it. I also wasn't asked if it would be okay for them to use it. If asked, I would have gotten an older (less expensive) vacuum from my basement for them to use. 3) To top things off, which is a huge pet peeve of mine, they used my bathroom and left the toilet seat up! Seriously? Show some manners and respect for a woman's home.

Leslie, Let me apologize again for forgetting to remove my wet shoes. I wish that you would have voiced your concerns to me personally, as customer satisfaction is our primary goal. This is the only time that I have ever received negative feedback, not only on thumbtack, but in the entire history of our company. When I read your review I was shocked. I had no idea that you were unhappy with anything that transpired regarding the service that we provided. I will now address the issues that you put in your review one at a time. 1. We arrived at your house at 12:35 and I emailed your invoice to you from your kitchen at 3:27. The time spent on site was just under three hours for each man. I actually rounded down on the time I billed you for (I use a time tracking app) and waived the $50 service call. 2. The $30 material charge was for the box, wire, fasteners, tape, and wire nuts. Not just for a box. 3. It may have appeared to you that “only one of the two men seemed to do anything other than hold fixtures” but this is not the case. you went into the other room with your dog and shut the door. I really wish that you would have had the courage to say something to me at the time, or to have answered my phone call after I read your review. I called you, sent you a message, then waited over 2 days before posting this reply in hopes that you would respond to my attempts to contact you, and that we could make it right in your eyes. I would also like to point out that we did not leave shoe prints on your carpet. As you stated, we used your vacuum to successfully clean up the marks. I didn’t think that you would mind. In hindsight, I should have asked you for permission. After you insisted that we use your ladder instead of bringing mine inside, why would I think that you would care if I used your vacuum cleaner? When I left your house I was under the impression that you were completely satisfied with the work. In the future, when dealing with any type of contractor, please voice your concerns. You may be surprised as to how accommodating we will be.

Cale did a good job installing a pair of can lights for us in our kitchen. His pricing was very competitive and he even ran to the Hardware store during the project to buy a unique light switch that was required for our specific electrical set-up. Cale was professional and showed up on time to start the job. Our kitchen presented some unexpected challenges, all of which he overcame; and even though the project definitely took longer than he originally quoted, the quoted cost did not increase. I would hire him again.

I wanted an expert to come and double check my electrical to make sure that everything was up to par and there were no fire hazards. Cale did a fantastic job, was very profesional and friendly, and took the time to answer all of my questions. I would recommend him and would hire him again!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

After an electrician has obtained his or her journey or master license, they must complete a code update course every 3 years.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Do your homework. Ask for references. Don't be fooled by a drastically low price, you will either pay for it in extras or in poorly done work.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I wish that customers had a better understanding of how difficult it is to become fully licensed in the state of Michigan. The apprenticeship for 4 years and 8,000 hours, followed by the journey exam that has a 90% failure rate, followed by 2 more years and another 4,000 hours then the even more difficult master electricians exam, and then finally the electrical contractors certification. This is just one facet of what most customers don't consider. The other thing that most people don't really know about is the physics behind electricity in general.
