FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Do you ever wonder about people who say they specialize in everything? I actually know the definition of the word specialize, and it can't include everything. I specialize in portraiture. A large percentage of my work is kids, from 4 to 16. I also do headshots for actors & models and a select amount of high school senior portraiture. My most unique specialty is a process. While I do a lot of color using my digital gear, I also do traditional black & white, using film that I process & print myself. Digital is convenient but there really is no match for a hand-made traditional black & white print.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Before a portrait session it helps to know what you'd like to do with the finished prints. Do you want one large print to hang on a wall, a group of smaller prints, or an album? The answers to questions such as these have an influence on how your portraits are styled, composed and shot.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Preparation makes all the difference. Good photography is rarely the result of just a lucky, random shot. Coordinating wardrobe & location will result in a much more satisfactory result. I really eschew the hit-and-run approach to portraiture. I'm pretty insistent on planning everything before the shoot. Here's a bit of irony: extensive planning actually allows for much more spontaneity during a shoot. By being well prepared it's a lot easier to improvise on site.
