This team Frank and his assistant Dave, make a new definition to the word outstanding. They arrived when said, finished the task as said and made very good recommendation for the new AC and leaving the furnace because it is still in good shape. Installed with attention to little details kept the work area clean "better than when they arrived" . On professional level they are efficient, timely, great communication and complete what they set to. On personal level they make the "AC" guy a friend , someone you'd want to hang out with. Great experience in total.

This company has always done great work. You can trust owner, Art Hoerig, and his work. If it can be fixed, he'll do that and stand behind his work. He's very knowledgeable in his field and knows the products. If you need a new unit you can trust he'll get you the best fit at a great price. I trusted Art to install a new furnace and never had any problems with it. When it was time to move, I called Art to service the furnace and air unit when they needed work at my new home. When my church purchased a new building and needed a Heating and Cooling Company, we called Hoerig Heating and Air Conditioning and my Pastors are very pleased with the work performed and the reasonable price. Hoerig Heating and Cooling is knowledgeable in both commercial systems and residential units.

I just needed a fluorescent light fixture repaired or replaced, and was having a hard time finding an electrician for such a small job. Although there was some confusion as to whether the total price that was quoted included parts or just the service call, the issue was resolved and the light fixture was replaced to my satisfaction. I would not hesitate to recommend him, and you won't find a nicer, more agreeable contractor to work with. I will contact him again for any heating/cooling/ electrical work in the future.

Tory was able to come within a few hours. We were charged for time he was looking for our place, but we were so appreciative he could come so quickly, we didn't fight it. We were surprised it was "cash only" in this modern day so we had to go and get cash and we had no paperwork of his service. My husband had great interaction with him and Tory was "perfectly polite" in my husband's words. We will call him again!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

    • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
    • The temperature cannot be regulated.
    • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
    • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
    • The thermostat isn’t working.
    • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
