My husband and I hired White Pines Entertainment to play a string duo for our outdoor wedding ceremony. They were above and beyond fantastic. They really set the tone for our ceremony and left a huge impression on our guests - everyone loved them and raved about them all evening! They were extremely easy to communicate with, knew exactly what we we were needed for our event, and even recommended a local band to play during our reception that matched the sound we wanted. They worked with us on all of our requests and were very professional. Most importantly, they are extremely skilled musicians that really know what they are doing. Beyond their impeccable sound, they completely took care of themselves during our event. They understand that brides and grooms are busy on their wedding day and were self-sufficient in setting up, communicating with our officiant to coordinate cues, and packing up. They kept everything running smoothly and were incredibly stress-free. I highly recommend this professional, talented and friendly company. We would hire them again in a heartbeat!

Devin is not only a great sound engineer, but a cool guy to record with. He makes the whole process super easy for the musician. He is very professional with setting up mics and he knows how to get the best sound, whether it be with guitars, drums or vocals. The other thing about Devin is that because he plays the instruments, and he's a singer, and he's been in many bands, etc., he's very knowledgable about music, arranging it and adding certain instrumentations and ideas to the music that I never even thought of as the songwriter! It has been a pleasure to see Devin grow, not only as a sound engineer, but also as a musician. I highly recommend Devin Davis Music for all your recording needs.

We considered close to 20 different bands before settling on Darron Moore and The 14th Floor for our Family ReUnion. The band offered an eclectic array of music touching from 50s to Present day. The Motown selections took all of our guest (ranging from 21-85) to the dance floor. What our entertainment committee loved most about the band leader Darron Moore was his professionalism and quick responses to the 100 million questions we had for him. Our Family ReUnion was a great success. The band traveled all the way from Detroit Michigan to Lake Charles La for our affair. Other family members have hired this band for their weddings and retirement parties. This is a great band.

We could not be happier with our experience with Frank and his band, Second Wind. I hired the band for my father in law's surprise 50th birthday party. Communication with Frank prior to the event was excellent and the performance during the event was stellar. I was able to choose songs from a play list - and Second Wind even learned my FIL's favorite song just for his birthday. It was clear my FIL, his friends and his family had a great time. I would hire them again in a heart beat. Thank you Second Wind for helping us have such a good time!

Hi, I am Carol Collins, music director for Thurston Community Players. Doug has coordinated the band and played the keyboard and sax for our musical the last 4 years. The band is quite talented and well received. They adjusted tempos, rhythm and volume as needed to work with the actors. I would highly recommend them for any gig.

The Band was awesome they played at our daughter's Wedding Reception! They were the greatest band I have ever had play at my house. They were very professional and amazing! I would recommend El Kabong completely and would for sure call on them again! They played from 7:00pm until Midnight on our deck that is above the 6ft. fence, people driving by slowed down to look. They also had a DJ for in between sets and after he played well after 1:00am. Ron Muniz came over a few weeks early to see where they would be playing the day of the Reception they were a little early and there set up was awesome! We used to have annual parties this was the best we had neighbors, friends and family calling and saying how outstanding everything was and that they were a part of it! The Reception was July 5, 2014 a Holiday weekend and they made it the best ever! Love El Kabong!!!!!

“Byron In Motion takes the time to really get to know the bride and groom. We advise and assist them in creating meaningful and entertaining music choices and announcements with smooth flowing lines. We also work closely with all personal before and during the event, so that the bride and groom have absolutely nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, many other wedding bands and DJs lack sophistication, are generic, and are unprepared. Not us! There is nothing cookie cutter about us. We take pride in our showmanship, professionalism, and dedication to making the event as special as possible for the couple and their guests. We don’t miss any details, we are great at reading the crowd, and we will adapt our playlist if needed. We guarantee that what you read on our website or what you have heard about us through word of mouth is what you will get. We are the real deal – we are a high quality band and are a great value for dollars spent.” - Byron Cancelmo

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
