Mike responded within minutes of my initial request for handyman work. I needed carpentry repair work done on my front-door jam & latch. Mike came over the very next day, assessed the complete problem, and gave a reasonable quote. He returned soon thereafter and finished the work. Thoroughly pleased with this entire transaction.

I had my carpet cleaned by The Kleaning People. Kisha and Robert are a great team. They worked hard on the tuff stains that WERE in my carpet. I had another big name carpet cleaning company that came in and were out in 30 minutes and the stains were still there. They told me the dirt would not come out. Robert got the stains out! They both showed me each room as they completed them. Very pleased with the service and already referred them to my next door neighbor and my sister.

Frank is the kind of contractor you want to give unlimited stars for excellence in service. My A/C unit wasn't working. Frank diagnosed the problem quickly and went the extra mile to fix it. He's knowledgeable, fair and honest. A pleasure to have met and certainly someone I would give the highest recommendation and referral for anyone needing his services. He also specializes in window and door replacement. Give him a call. You won't regret it. Thanks Frank for restoring my faith in contractors. You're a good man. Even my most shyest catahoula rescue dog loved Frank! That's a first for her. I would definitely call on Frank in the future.

Handyman Tom has been my savior, I have had so many little things that needed to be done. He has finished jobs that were started, put in a new door and moved things that I couldn't handle. He is an awesome guy, willing to do whatever needs to be done and always happy to help in any way.

Matt did a really nice job for us on creating a walk in pantry out of an existing hallway. It required moving an existing door for the bathroom to the other wall, closing off that doorway, and closing off the hallway with a new wall. After a coat of paint, unless you knew the floor plan for the house prior to the new pantry, you would never know that hallway existed, or the bathroom door used to be on the opposite side. Very nice job, reasonably priced. Thanks Matt.

Joe is detail oriented and communicative. He does great work. He changed several doors in my house including repairing my old front door which looks like new now. He can tackle any job big or small and always finds solutions which was great for an old home like mine. I definitely recommend Joe and will be calling him in the future for other repairs.

Had a bi-fold closet door repaired and a ceiling fan replaced. They were on-time, finished both projects in time quoted. Very polite and did a great job. Clean-up was perfect and old fan was removed from home. I was very pleased with Charles and his helper. Would definitely hire again for other projects

Mike was very friendly and knew exactly what was wrong with my garage door immediately and even came out on a Saturday to fix it. I have actually already recommended him to someone in a Facebook group saying they were having some problems with their garage door too. Will keep his info in case I need assistance again!

Jon responded to the ad quickly, when re-installing a door noted a problem. H noticed that a gap in the tile floor would show so he cut a piece of tile and installed this too- glad he made us aware of this and had a solution. Good at many projects.

when we posted on this site the first person to respond was Mr. Sandercott of Jam Restorations. he prompt response to our add was very impressive. when David came to our home he was very attentive to what we were trying to achieve and what we wanted as the end finished product. keeping in mind that we had (3) prior contractors come out and never even gave us a call back after leaving. David not only returned our call after leaving but had a quote for us the same day WOW.. Needless to say we signed our contract with Jam Restorations the following day. clear wording and easy to follow contract. David provided a start and finish date for us off we went. we hired Jam restorations to do the following work for us, trim (11) windows, (5) doors entire second and third floor as well as our stair case, (3) closets in and out as well as switching out and rehanging the (5) doors. David and his company not only met our expectations but exceeded them so much that we actually asked him to return to complete our first floor living quarters. David and his employees were nothing but professional and considerate of our time table and work schedule. I have had several neighbors come into my home to see his work and they were just as equally impressed as we were. we would Highly recommend him to others, a contractor who answers all of his calls and or gets back to your calls within 5 minutes... actively using jam restoration for other carpentry finishing work in my home. Thank You Mr. Sandercott for your excellent work, detail to finish and professionalism.

J. Winters has done a fabulous job with my projects. Justin started my project with an installation of flooring and two doors. Due to Justin's reasonable rates and excellent work ethics, he completed various projects including electrical and plumbing. I am so pleased with his work and will definitely use him in the near future. I would recommend J. Winters services for any projects you may have.

I had doors, door trim, and baseboard installed in my basement. The work was done well and quickly after I contacted them on this site. He wasn't the most punctual, but seemed very knowledgeable and overall it went great.

Dan's team is fantastic! We chose him, the lowest quote, to refinish the flooring in our new home. We wanted to support a new small business in the area and we're so glad we did! He made himself available to answer any of our questions and was able to let himself in and lock up afterwards, making it really easy for our busy schedule. After Dan finished sanding the floors, he was concerned we may not be happy with the floors finished naturally, as originally planned, because of the different types of wood. Rather than completing the job and moving along, he called us to confirm we would be happy with the end product. In the end, we were happy to go along with the original plan and the floors finished great! We also had a ~9 x 12 inch hole in the floor which was not disclosed to us by the sellers of the home. Dan's team was able to fix the subfloor and inter-disperse boards to fill in the hole in the flooring, fantastic job overall! We plan to recommend Dan and New Generation Hardwood Floor Service to all of our friends and family with need to get their floors refinished. Thanks for such a great job Dan and team!

Mr. Morris completed 4 jobs for me covering a three month period. 1) Involved rennovating my enclosed back porch by putting in a ceiling, removed/replaced surrounding screens & door, removed/repaired wood frames, installed electric wiring & put in a ceiling fan/light for first time, painting of woodframes, sealing bottom base bricks, and fixing gutters. Excellent job. 2) Installed gutters on garage for rain off, re-roofed garage & installed ventilation at top of roof. Well done! 3) Installed gutter brackets, repaired damage wood, repaired & fixed front house gutters for rain off. 4) Re-balancing of garage beams and adjusted tracks of garage door to prevent jamming or inconsistency of door opening or closing. All jobs were pre-appraised, with an estimate delivered within several days. Mr. Morris was very professional , detailed & courteous in explaining each job, cost, and timeframes. He exceeded all my expectations, in quality, timeliness, & proficiency, completing each job ahead of schedule. He cleaned up each area after completion of job very well. Partial monies paid up front and balance of bill not due until I did a walk thru & stated satisfaction of work done. I have told Mr. Morris that I will be retaining his phone number in my directory for future home repairs and have no concerns about referring him to my neighbors because of his professionalism and the quality of his work.

Alex did a great job reframing a door, he went about it the right way and was on time for both the estimate and work. He laid down tarp, patched, painted, and took good care. He was also great to get along with. Highly recommend!

Dennis was great to work with. I set up a time for him to install my microwave, but the day before he was suppose to come do the work, he called to let me know that he had a family emergency to attend to out of town. To keep his obligation, rather than cancelling, he went out of his way to get it done that night. He not only did quality work, but it was also done quickly.

We had the entire interior of our home painted, crown molding installed and painted, shoe molding installed and painted, doors painted, basement paneling painted, and glass tile backsplash installed by Chris. He did a marvelous job on everything! He pays great attention to detail and is very conscientious about doing a professional job. Plus he was an absolute delight to have around the house! Contractors like this are hard to find these days!

Called Joe for some repair work around the rental before we vacated the premises. He fixed the garage door, a regular door whose jamb was broken, and did some electrical work on some lights that stopped working. He did a great job and charges were very reasonable. I'm keeping his card handy from now on.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.
