Heather has been tutoring my 8-year old daughter in reading and math for over 2 years now. She came to us highly recommended by a fellow parent in our elementary school. We have been beyond pleased with her relationship with our daughter. Our child has multiple delays in academics and speech. Heather has been not only extremely patient, but she has customized her lessons to fit our daughter's needs. She is not afraid to change her plans to suit how our daughter will best learn at that time. She often revisits those original plans or lessons when she feels our daughter is ready for them. She also challenges our daughter when she feels it will best benefit her. She keeps our daughter engaged by learning through games and different activities, and she does movement breaks if needed. She is always on time for lessons and is very prompt about getting back to me if I have a question. Our daughter has made great progress under her wing, and we would highly recommend her!

Gabriela is a great teacher. What I learned came in handy when I went on my honeymoon to Puerto Rico and Miami. She takes the time to tailor lessons to your learning objectives and level. I would recommend her for anyone wanting to obtain a grasp of the Spanish language.

Gregorio has been great so far. We've had one meeting via skype and already I've learned a ton! He even sent me a useful form in which to understand the language better. I'm excited to continue to work with him.

I'm a native Spanish speaker from Málaga, Spain, who had the chance to share a very enriching and invaluable experience with Callen in the US and Spain for several months a few years ago. Not only did he enormously help me with my English skills, but I also realised how capable he is of working with Spanish. Both his communication and teaching skills will be extremely helpful for his students.

I had one on one lessons during my time in the US. She had previously lived in France for a long time so was very knowledgeable on how to actually speak French rather than just what the text book says. I learnt a lot fast . I was reading long passages within a few weeks with good understanding and started speaking from day one. Although I found it difficult to speak and create my own sentences this forced you to begin to learn properly. I would highly recommend this tutor

Although my time with Emilce was cut short due to my work circumstances, she was a great teacher who was willing to push her student to the next step. She is very fun to talk to and I recommend 120% to anyone who is willing to improve their Spanish.

    About

At Koby Learning Group, your language learning and tutoring is facilitated by enthusiastic and friendly professionals in small group settings. Unlike large, expensive language classes, in our classes you will receive individual attention, evaluation, and coaching, whether in one-on-one private lessons or group lessons. We will meet your individual language learning or tutoring needs! Like all the teachers here at Koby Learning Group, I am a people person, and I enjoy the interaction of communicative language teaching. Helping students reach their tutoring goals and motivating them towards language achievement milestones is rewarding.

    About

I have been studying the Spanish language for 12 years and now that I finally get to teach it, not only do I take that serious but I also make it fun for others to learn a second language. My work stands out because at the end my students are always eager and excited to learn more and never get bored of learning Spanish. I like everything about my job, but most of all I like answering questions that students may have, and my favorite part is when they are able to understand everything and are able to use what they have learned in the real world.

    About

I give emphasis on speaking target language. Grammar, syntax, and reading are taught where necessary. At client's request, I will give equal time to all aspects of the language. I am a native English speaker who has taught English to speakers of other languages. I have a B.A. degree from M.S.U. in Spanish and French, both of which are spoken with native fluency. I have 36 credits towards M.A. in French. I have 12 years' experience in the teaching profession as a Spanish and French teacher.

    About

I am teaching French, Spanish, Dutch and German. Introductory courses are free. I use the conversational approach.

    About

Over the years I have made a point of writing some of the material I intend to teach in class. I found this to be particularly useful in my Russia and Easter Europe elective. Eventually this led to write two books on Russian history. The first came out in 2003 and is entitled “Renegades, Rebels and Rogues Under the Tsars. The second is due to come out this March and is entitled “ Enemies of the People Under the Soviets. This experience has helped me to guide many of my students, who often struggle to achieve their potential carrying out research projects and writing term papers.

    About

I have learned to speak Spanish fluently as a second language, giving me the advantage of not only knowing the language inside and out, but also the best point of departure and how to overcome the difficulties of learning a language. I really enjoy teaching one-on-one, that way I can focus completely on that one person and that person isn't hindered by others that may learn slower, or intimidated by those that might learn quicker.

    About

I make my lessons fun, while at the same time, making them personal and adapt them to the individual wishes, needs and ability of each student. I love the sweet smell of success when I see the smiles on my students as they see and feel their progress and the euphoria when they have reached their goal. I also like to see the face of disappointment on their faces when their lessons end.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
