What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically offer a 30 minute complimentary coaching session enabling a potential coaching client to share the specifics of their need and to gain a better understanding of the coaching process. After this complimentary session I offer coaching programs starting at 4 weekly visits of 60 minutes in length.
We typically begin a coaching session focused on the "who" of my new client. Depending on the specific goal, learning the "who" helps to determine the "what". The "what: is a clearly defined goal with timelines and benchmarks. This area of coaching is important to provide measurable and accountable results. By getting clear on the what we can then break down the goal into obtainable steps that the client is comfortable in taking.
Once we have clear timelines and specific steps, we can then focus on what the gap is between where the client is currently in relationship to the specific goals we can look at and challenge perceived obstacles to obtaining success.
When we can overcome or the perceived obstacles, while staying focused on the goals we develop the "how."
The "how: is the action part of the coaching process and enables a client to take specific steps toward realizing the goal.. Action steps are co-created and individual and take into consideration, time, energy, support systems and resources available to the client. Action steps are where I hold the client accountable for what they say they want for their life, career, relationships or their business.
While each client is different, there is no one formula rather we work within a coaching framework to discover the best way forward.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my training through Coach U Inc,, a world wide coaching institution and an accredited training program through the International Coaching Federation ( a coach credentialing association that monitors the coaching profession.)
I am also a Reiki Master which is a training program that requires three levels of learning and practice enabling me to provide this services to client's and those seeking alternative healing.
I am a certified Emotional Freedom practitioner receiving certification 9 years ago. I offer this technique to my coaching clients enabling them to learn for themselves, methods that eliminate stress and improve health by detaching from the repetitive stories that create dissatisfaction or limiting beliefs or patterns.
I am also licensed in Print, which is an assessment tool that assists others in learning their unconscious motivator in their life, what they seek to avoid, their best self traits and shadow self traits. Knowing your results from this powerful assessment tool allows you, the client to understand your own strengths and behaviors and to better manage your driving motivator in any area of life, including relationships, career and life goals.
I am certified Herbal Health Practitioner having completed studies on plant medicine from Neutraceutical Research Foundation and trained with a naturopathic doctor , Dr. Nijiah Muhammad.
Previous to entering the coaching profession I worked for 17 plus years for a major media group as director of sales, marketing, promotions overseeing, hiring and training three departments of sales, geographic information specialists and promotional activities for 82 newspapers.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Coaching actually found its way to me. I attended many self-development courses over the years prior to becoming a coach. I also observed in myself an uncanny ability to listen to others providing a presence that allowed me to quickly understand and become a sounding board for whatever they were seeking.
While at a writing event taught by a Life Coach (the first time I had heard of this term in my life) I waited for this life coach/ teacher in the parking lot after the event because I was curious and felt driven to learn more about what a life coach is./ does.
When I caught up to this instructor post event, he explained about his profession. I can't explain it but I felt as if a light bulb turned on within me. I knew this is something I was meant to look into.
I immediately researched the best coach training school I could find and within months I was training to become a coach. I never looked back, and left my very secure comfy career and began my coaching practice about 9 plus years ago.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with many types of clients, Those seeking clarity around what career they would like to pursue next and the steps necessary to realize this newly found career path. I have worked with those seeking greater fulfillment in life and relationships. Those who want to re-invent themselves in a new path, career or life.
I have worked with clients who want to achieve more balance in their work/ life and eliminate stress.
I have worked with client's who want to develop their inter-personal skills enabling them to obtain a promotion or raise. On the health area, I have worked with professionals such as professors and traditional medical doctors on achieving a better health habit regime and eliminate stress.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When seeking a coach ask about their coach training, references from their current client if possible and whether they are active in continuous education in their coaching field. Also ask if they are a part of any self regulating industry such as the International Coaching Federation or another qualified coach credentialing organization.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Whatever my clients are going through I can honestly say that it's likely that I've gone through it myself. People don't become coaches without plenty of life experiences, otherwise they couldn't possibly relate. For me life is an exciting journey and the lessons even though numerous and sometimes daunting seem insurmountable sometimes, there is nothing in our way except for our own limited thinking.
