I had my whole house and garage exterior painted. ***Wow*** my experience with this company far exceeded all expectations! Tracy, a color specialist, guided me into choosing the perfect colors that would 'contemporize' my worn n' tired looking black/white '79 colonial. The transformation was nothing short of amazing! I love it. The painter did a great job. He was timely, reliable and hard working. I am very happy with this company. Kudos to Tracy and the Painter on a job well done. I would definitely hire them again for future projects.

Tom was great. He was on time, did a great job installing two toilets and a new garage door opener, and is detail-oriented and polite. Like most people, we struggle to find a good contractor who will consistently show up and not make a mess of the project, so we will definitely be using Tom again for future projects.

Let me start off by saying if I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I initially hired Wilson Painting to paint one of my doors. After doing such a great job, I asked for two separate quotes for the interior and exterior of my home. They gave me two amazing quotes with a very generous discount. I myself am very picky when it comes to painting, but they took my anxiety away. They did a FLAWLESS job and even gave me a 10 year warranty free if I need any touch ups done. My home never looked so beautiful. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this company for your painting needs. You will not regret it! Thank you guys so much, you did an awesome job! Also, customer service was fantastic. They came out and quoted me that same day and finished the job in a very convenient time frame!

Everything from start to finish was handled top notch! We received several quotes and the quality product that Premier Door had to offer was well worth the price. Tyler came out and checked out our current situation and we gave him a deposit to order the door. It was originally a 2 week time frame for delivery and installation which was what we had expected after researching garage doors. About a week into that window, the manufacture notified Premier of a delay and they contacted us right a way. It unfortunately pushed our installation date out a week, but they promised to get out and install it asap and set the date for 1 week later. Tyler called the evening before our scheduled date to confirm the installation. The guys were on time and worked diligently to remove our old door (which had fallen off the tracks and was a piled up mess when they arrived), the old hardware and opener. They answered all of our questions and set up the new opener for us. It looks fantastic, from the inside and out! Top notch job guys, five star for sure!

John and Jeff repainted my house interior, exterior doors and basement. They were both very friendly and easy to work with. The work was carefully completed in a timely fashion using high quality materials at a very fair price. They paid meticulous attention to details and John always reviewed the day's work with me to make sure I was satisfied. I highly recommend JTR Home Services.

Hector's expertise was extremely helpful when he first consulted with us about the job. He had great ideas that we would not have thought of on our own. We had some exposed aggregate decorative work done on our driveway and walkway to our front door. Hector suggested lights in the concrete along both and it looks incredible. Very happy with the results! Will be using his services again in the spring in the backyard!

Clean-up was perfect and old fan was removed from home. I was very pleased with Charles and his helper. Would definitely hire again for other projects

Before painting exterior, he power washed. He was very professional. There was no return visit for any missed areas. This summer we are having him return to paint our interior doors for all rooms. We highly recommend Jason May Painting.

Matt was absolutely amazing! We had a nursery painted with an underwater theme. Never even really heard him while he was here for 2 weeks. It may seem like a long time but to us with what was done it was super fast! When i came on here to find someone to paint i got a couple people who responded. the reason i picked matt was because when he sent an email to me it wasn't like everyone else who responded. He asked me what i wanted what i was looking for, more personable then the others who just gave me the price per square foot and nothing on what i wanted. He was very accommodating to our busy life and came to us and didn't charge a fee for gas (which some said they charged for) mind you we lived over an hour away. when finally meeting with him once again it what we wanted and what we wanted to see in the painting. We love fish tanks and have certain fish we like and wanted to see and he made sure to include them. Everyday he came around the same time we simply left the door unlocked because we work late hours we still would be sleeping. A time or 2 we needed to leave earlier then when we needed to and it was never a problem. Now to the artwork itself, simply amazing! We had one big mural on one wall and the others just painted to match. The fish and coral look so real and it was well balanced and scaled perfectly. It was mostly hand painted and some airbrushed. Matt has more than exceeded our expectations the nursery is absolutely breathe taking and couldn't be more happier to have found him. We will definitely be hiring him again!

Ian was pleasant to work with and offered very reasonable pricing that was at or below other quotes I had received. He made some paint color and style suggestions which made the exterior of my home look great. He also pointed out some things around my garage/home that he noticed may need some attention in the future. Would hire again!

I needed someone to fix a door urgently, I contacted Mr. Bob, and he came right in, advised me on what can be done to replace the door, the door had unusual measurements, Bob took the time and effort to fit the door and built a frame to fit the odd door, he done that in no time, the result was a great beautiful old door that was given a makeover by the artist Mr. Bob, I will definitely hire MR. Bob again, he is punctual, honest and trust worthy, and he has reasonable prices, he worked with me and did a beautiful job. Thank you Bob Zena

My garage door stopped working and I didn't know why! Called j&b door and they were very helpful, told me my spring was likely broken, and came the same day. Very quick and honest people. After talking to a friend, it looks like I got a good deal too, it was $160 total, my friend had paid over $200 for the same thing. Glad I called this place first.

These guys were awesome. Everything that they said they would be. Showed up on time, gave a free estimate, and painted my entire garage all in one day! Jermaine was really friendly and professional and made the decision an easy one to make. I'm going to have them come back and stain my deck in the spring. Highly recommended!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
