I recently purchased a 100 year old home in need of major electrical upgrades. New to the area, I had gotten several quotes from several reputable electricians, but Nick stood out. Price and Services offered were hard to beat. Increase AMP's to the house, rewire entire garage, replace service panel, the list goes on. I consider myself handy, but Nick puts my knowledge and handy work to shame. He offers much more than just electrical services, garage door motor install, TV's "professionally" hung, 220v outlets run, kitchen & bath and more. I would reccomend him and his team for just about any project.

Frank was a little slow to respond at first as he missed my message but very responsive after that. His price was tied for the lowest out of 4 quotes for a frame-less glass shower door and install. He had better recommendations, so we chose him. The shower door looks really nice. The door is slightly higher than the glass panel, about 1/4" which isn't very noticeable. He did charge us $5 more than the original quote because both him and my wife couldn't find the copies of original quote. I didn't deduct any stars for that because I believe it was an honest mistake, and it's as much my fault for not being there at the time of install. Frank also installed the door on a Sunday for us because that was the only day our schedules lined up. Kudos for that. There's a lot of contractors I would not recommend, but I am very satisfied with Frank's work and would definitely recommend him for shower door installs.

Steve came out to install a new faucet I'm my kitchen. Thank God I did as it turned out to be a more complex job then I could have handled. Steve did a great job, was extremely personable and completed the job quickly. I would highly recommend him for any plumbing job you may have.

Caulking in shower, replacing wood and weather stripping on garage, replaced weather stripping for front door, secured some loose tiles, filled a seam in my granite countertop, added some grout to backsplash, fixed closet doors so they could open and close smoothly. Tom did a great job on everything in a timely matter, very reasonable price, trust worthy, and very personable. We will definitely refer him out and will use him for other repairs!

The handy couple were awesome. It's a team of husband and wife. They are both very professional and awesome at their job. They installed my very complicated shower faucet system, which the last plumber left in the middle. I was extremely happy with the job. I will be hiring them again for some more jobs.

Karl re-did my bathroom remodel after the first contractor didn't do a good job. He replaced my tub with a walk in shower, installed a tile baseboard and replaced the traditional door to the bathroom with a sliding barn door. I am tremendously satisfied with all of the work done. The tile work is extremely neat and professionally done. Karl arrived on time every morning, did exactly what he quoted to do unless I asked for something different which he complied with to ensure he was meeting my expectations. I have great pics to post of his work but I'm not sure how to do that on this site. I would highly recommend him. I had not chosen a glass shower door when he did my remodel but I will definitely contact him to install the door once I select one. Awesome work!!

I hired Jam Restoration to replace plumbing fixtures, a vanity and install a shower stall, etc. in a rental property that I own. David was prompt in his response and his quote was reasonably priced. After work began he agreed to add a couple more items I requested (an additional toilet replacement and new flooring.) The additional work was reasonably priced as well. He began the work when he said he would and it was completed in a timely manner. When I mentioned one item that needed a minor tweak, he came out and addressed it. Overall I'm pleased with how things turned out including the tile work around the shower stall, as well as the toilet and vanity recommendations. I will consider Jam Restoration for future work. Thanks.

Mr. Morris completed 4 jobs for me covering a three month period. 1) Involved rennovating my enclosed back porch by putting in a ceiling, removed/replaced surrounding screens & door, removed/repaired wood frames, installed electric wiring & put in a ceiling fan/light for first time, painting of woodframes, sealing bottom base bricks, and fixing gutters. Excellent job. 2) Installed gutters on garage for rain off, re-roofed garage & installed ventilation at top of roof. Well done! 3) Installed gutter brackets, repaired damage wood, repaired & fixed front house gutters for rain off. 4) Re-balancing of garage beams and adjusted tracks of garage door to prevent jamming or inconsistency of door opening or closing. All jobs were pre-appraised, with an estimate delivered within several days. Mr. Morris was very professional , detailed & courteous in explaining each job, cost, and timeframes. He exceeded all my expectations, in quality, timeliness, & proficiency, completing each job ahead of schedule. He cleaned up each area after completion of job very well. Partial monies paid up front and balance of bill not due until I did a walk thru & stated satisfaction of work done. I have told Mr. Morris that I will be retaining his phone number in my directory for future home repairs and have no concerns about referring him to my neighbors because of his professionalism and the quality of his work.

Bill was very friendly and listened to everything we wanted in our bathroom remodel. He was very timely and worked the entire time he was at the house. He gave us a beautiful new master bath! The tile work was high quality and we worked together to customize a few features such as a unique recessed shelf in the shower. Overall, Bill and his helper were great! They even went above and beyond with patching our kitchen ceiling where the old master bath had leaked through.

Josh did a great job tiling around our glad block window in our shower area. When the glass black window installers pretty much left us with an unfinished window josh was there to save our day. He did a very professional job and the whole experience went smooth and the price was great. We will use him again in the future. I highly recommend Josh.

ABS did a beautiful job in my kitchen. It had to be completely gutted down to the studs. They put in all new electrical, new subfloor, ceramic tile on the floor and backsplash. Installed insulation, all new cabinets, microwave above the stove, dishwasher, sink, garbage disposal and faucet. They were efficient and very neat. At the end of the day, everything was cleaned up. They were trustworthy. I never thought twice about them working in my home when I wasn't there. I knew what I wanted, but they had excellent ideas , some of which I used. They were very good at communicating throughout the whole process. I would not hesitate to have Bill Gleason and company work in my home again!

Darrell has done many projects in my home. Initially, I hired him for a kitchen remodel, in 2010. Since then he has done a bathroom, flooring, both laminate and ceramic, electrical, plumbing, door installations, both exterior and interior and fencing around my pool. In addition, I have had Darrel work on two investment properties that I am a part owner of. In those homes, he has repaired and installed hardwood flooring, removed walls, moved electrical, fixed heating and cooling systems and roof repairs. What I feel is most important with his work is that he is trustworthy and honest. I am, by nature, cautious about individuals working in my home, but I have no reservations having Darrell come into my home and work, when I am not home. I have referred him to many friends and they have not been disappointed. Overall, I have not found anything that Darrell can not handle. I have been happy with all of the work he has done.

Our project involved taking a 2nd story loft from an open space into a fully enclosed master bedroom and bath. We worked with Rob to come up with a few designs, and ended up with a great design. Rob and the crew came out and demo'd the existing closet space, and reframed the entire bedroom and bath. They were able to complete all the finishing work, including floor tile, painting, custom shower work and tile, and a radiant floor in the bathroom. Rob and the team were always on time, great with communication, and flexible with changes that we introduced. We will definitely be using True Michigan Construction again in the future.

When we decided to have our master bathroom remodeled, we met with four uninspiring designers before happening onto the Labra Design+Build web site. We met with the owner, Rufino Labra, who really listened to our design wishes and personal taste, and within a few days came up with two impressive design options (in 3D!) We were excited about both options and after talking further with Rufino knew for sure that we wanted him and his company to handle our remodel. Throughout both the planning and remodeling, Rufino was patient, accommodating, and always accessible getting back to us the same or next day with answers to our questions, concerns and change requests. He kept us apprised of the progress letting us know when task were scheduled to start and be completed, plus he always made sure that we were completely happy with every decision. When Rufino and/ or his crew needed to work late, they were always respectful of our plans. Rufino and his crew took great care of our home protecting our floors and minimizing tracking. At the end of each day drop cloths were removed and everything was kept as clean and organized as possible. All debris was hauled away the same day (no dumpster on our property and no rubbish in our yard or garage!) We absolutely could not be more pleased with the results, from the more functional configuration, the large curbless shower and custom cabinets, to all the materials installed and the soothing paint colors Rufino selected to blend with our monochromatic style. The workmanship is outstanding (first rate). Now, our master bathroom is beautiful with lots of storage, and we love, love, love everything about it! Thanks to Rufino and his amazing crew, especially Abe who worked on our project daily, the whole process was a pleasant experience and the remodel was started and completed within the timeline constraints.

Solid work at a fair price! Donald installed a tile floor + curb in our shower (had a plastic basin beforehand), removed and re-installed our tile door, and fixed some cracked grout and water-damaged walls. Donald was superb to work with because he was flexible. He completed the job during hours that worked with our schedules and met with us at the tile shop and home depot to pick out tile and materials. We are really enjoying the finished product!

Andy at Paterson Restoration is your construction and renovation man. He is detail oriented. He used to work at Home Depot and has a lot of connections. Our shower door and dishwasher broke. Andy hooked us up from start to finish. I retired from the Genesee County Sheriff's Dept. I was a little hesitant to use Thumbtack at first If you have any restoration or repair work call Andy. He is TRUSTWORTHY..RELIABLE..and his work is METICULOUS. You will be amazed at his work and reasonable price. Patterson Restoration deserves an A+

We love our new shower. To build is slower than to remove but it's OK. We are happy that Scott brings vacuum because there is lots of dust but he cleans it up. My daughter and wife was very excited to take shower when he finished. We are now thinking for Scott to do the upstairs shower also because we like so much.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

For more on how long a bathroom remodel should take check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
