Dan recorded our daughter's wedding and captured the day perfectly. We are so impressed with the quality, his professionalism and his editing abilities. He worked well with the photographer and didn't miss a thing. His rates are very reasonable and returned the full video and highlight video to us within his promised timeline. FIVE STARS all the way! We are so thankful we chose him. Thanks Dan!!

Rodney’s, cinematic video quality and work ethic was amazing, as well as hard work and willingness to work with us for a very reasonable cost. The end product was fantastic and family and friends were awed by our video. Looked like a professional movie. Thank you Rodney! Hire him, you will not be disappointed! 😉

We hired Memories in Motion to record our wedding and edit the wedding video. We are extremely happy with the final product. From the crystal clear picture and sound to the care that was taken to include our wedding pictures on the case. We feel that having our wedding video professionally recorded was well worth the money as we would have never gotten the same results if we were to have done it ourselves. The staff at Memories in Motion were very professional and the end product came out great. We couldn't be happier. We'd highly recommend Memories in Motion to anyone that may need an event professionally recorded.

We hired Adex Film to cover my daughter's birthday party in Toronto and it is such an outstanding turn out in their delivery of the ceremony and we truly appreciate what they do to make our day memorable. We still watch the video today even though it was recorded back in 2010. Highly recommend them.

Judy and her assistant Dave were simply amazing! Our wedding photos are breathtakingly beautiful! I am so surprised at how much footage they were able to capture, half the time we weren't even aware of their presence! Judy is so easygoing and great to work with! I am so thankful we used Anderson Studios! They made everything so easy and at an affordable price!

Mr. Walton was a pleasure to work with from the first meeting I felt we were in good hands. He did everything in his power to ensure he got quality video footage of every moment of our big day. Him and his team were very professional in dress and demeanor and a joy to chat with as well.

I hired David to photograph two kitchens with skylight installations in the metro Detroit area. The challenge of this job was for him to work around a video shooter who was also documenting the space. David worked well around the video shooter and delivered some beautiful photos. He was easy to work with, turned around his price estimate quickly and was thorough in his preparation for the shoot. Thanks, David for the nice work!

We have used Volk Video Services for two dance performances. He was great to work with! He is very friendly, professional, knowledgable, patient and really works with you to produce what you want! Everyone loved the video... We had a menu driven dvd & a compilation he created for us to music as a surprise in the video! He also gave us the video only one month after our show - which was during the busy Christmas season... I highly recommend! Please contact me with any questions.

Chris did an amazing job. He showed up on time and did a great job of staying out of sight but some how captured it a lot. We agreed to 6 hours of his time (no second hand), a short video, raw footage, and 3 DVDs. He gave us the short video two weeks later, which was phenomenal. The DVDs showed up just a few days later. We were able to have everything before our honeymoon. I was so happy with how everything turned out.

Pete did a great job documenting a three-day event for us. He captured stills and video of multiple events. The schedule was tight and events took place in a variety of settings with differing light and sound limitations, and in all circumstances, Pete produced great results for us. Very pleased with his work and will book again.

When I researched who I wanted to shoot my first major music video it became apparent that Whitey of Vindicate Media was the best man for the job. The quality of his work is incredible and speaks for itself. I went to him with a somewhat grandiose vision of what I wanted, and on the day of shooting it became obvious that he knew exactly how to accomplish it. Systematically switching between cameras and locations, as well as incorporating a drone to get some truly amazing footage. And working with him did not feel like work. It was easy to remain excited throughout the day of shooting because of how Whitey remained excited and passionate throughout the process. Bottom line, I'm very results oriented and could not be happier with the results. My Video turned out even better than I could have imagined, and the response from the fans has been absolutely tremendous. Whitey and Vindicate Media could not come any more highly recommended from Jamie Baumgartner and Xscape Artist Music. Five stars.

We've used Paul Taylor Films to make fantastic videos of our youth summer internship program for our non-profit, The Youth Connection. Mr. Taylor's professionalism and feedback on the overall production of our videos and what we should put in the videos was invaluable. Our funders LOVED the videos we produced with Mr. Taylor's help and we're looking forward to working with him again. If you are looking for complete video services (from shooting the video to post-production) we can't recommend Paul Taylor Films enough.

Paul was wonderful to work with. A true professional, prompt, accomodating on short notice. Good listener! Excellent artistic vision. He did a short outside video for me for a presentation. Very satisfied especially with the quality, and how he pulled it all together and made it easy for this newbie.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
